View Full Version : Bad Timing (and the media)

Well, I have just recently heard the amazing news.
I guess the objective has not changed. To make even MORE Farscape!
I just want to underline the importance of timing. I remember when we managed to get CNN to to mention our cause several times. It's just a shame that they didn't mention it shortly before the last string episodes started airing. The added publicity may have given an extra boost to the ratings.
And so whenever the mini-series airs, say a year or so from now (I'm guessing), I just hope that we consider concentrating the final media blitz at an appropriate time. Say, two days before the episodes start airing.
I'm sure there must be some benefits to always keeping Farscape in the news. But remember that news agencies can easily get tired of the same story. We may only get one shot on CNN this time, so choose the timing wisely.
Just something to think about.

Well, we don't always have control over that, but the basic principle is right. I mean, look at movies..the big ones might have 'buzz' for months before, but they're only advertised right before the movie comes out.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the media right now. The focus is pretty much on getting Farscape into as many venues as possible. This includes the monstrous military project, the library project and a myriad of local projects. If any of these get noticed by the media, that's all the better as they will be serving multiple purposes. Our basic job, at this point, is to make as many converts as possible before the miniseries ever is broadcast.

From the news media perspective here... I do get tired of constant press releases and PR flacks badgering me. However, that's their job and I also rely on them to give me ideas, to fill in slots when there's nothing going on and to give me the "news hook" for their client. "Sell it to me," I say to them, essentially.
Persistence is rewarded in this biz, I believe. Also rewarded is giving them (us) a reason to cover something. For example, if there is a big entertainment something-or-other going on, there may be a reason, a "hook" to add Farscape to their coverage, and ANYone can point that out to the news-makers (and fakers).
Believe me, even though I don't work on the entertainment side at all, I've been looking for a reason to try to get Farscape on in any way. At this point, unless Claudia Black was responsible for the Saddam Hussein tip-off, or Ben Browder went to Neverland to visit his best friend Michael Jackson... it wouldn't happen!
But my main point is (I think there is one), that persistence and pithiness pays off. Pitching requires both qualities for success and I think we should keep trying for all things Farscape on many fronts -- it probably won't hurt at all...

I agree 100% with this, now that we know there is a continueation of some sort, we should start planning (and saving) for a huge farscape bombarment just before it airs.
I think we can really make an impact, i wouldnt think its out of the realm of possibility even for a TV program to be made about the Farscape campagn. (BBC most likely their, perswade them to do a "Farscape night" maybe).
