I have tried a few of these products. Most didn't do what I wanted them to do. Anyone got any stories to tell about some of these products? This will maybe curb my curiosity to try more.

Okay...the one thing I will swear by is "the snackster". My roommate bought it...I thought she was dumb for doing so. But it grills your sandwich on both side...and it's so addictive. I've never had a better turkey and cheese sandwich.
I am aware that I sound like an advertisement.

My mom buys stuff out of catalogues all the time. Most of it is crap and she sends it back. I imagine most tv stuff is very similar. The only thing I've ever bought after seeing an ad on tv (and then going to the website to buy it- purchasing over the phone seems strange to me) was the Time Life Treasury of Christmas CD. And I actually love it, because it has lots of old Christmas songs on it that are perfect this time of year.
Have you ever been to the "As seen on TV" store? They have all sorts of stuff there that is "not sold in stores" and you can look at it to see if it is what you think it is.

I bought an Ionic Breeze. They really do work great.
I also bought an OxyClean kit. It's no better than bleach. In fact it's not as good as bleach. You can now get 'orange' cleaner made by other companies that is much cheaper.
I bought hair extensions once. I always wanted very long straight hair. The extensions looked like maniquen hair. The color barely looked like mine and they wouldn't stay in. I wore them once and was afraid to turn my head. And they were expensive too.

I like Ronco! I have the rotisserie oven, and once we learned how to use it properly (read the damned instructions) it's great. I plan to purchase the bigger better unit.
Ron is a very good guy, and if you follow instructions, your items will work properly and you will enjoy them.
Some items that haven't done so well for me, from TV purchases.
Onion chopper that you push down on, there is a protective dome and when you press down, a blade chops the onions and rotates. Total crap.
hand mixer, a bowl with a cover, and a handle you spin and it's supposed to mix your salad, amongst other things. Total crap, it light weight, and won't stay still when using.
Some of the late 80s and early 90s workout equipment, all crap.

I bought one of those things that is like a food processor, but it's manual and comes with all kinds of different blades. It was a lot cheaper than an electic food processor and it works really well. I bought one of those onion choppers too and I never use it.

The "As Seen On TV" sticker that they put on those products cracks me up! Like I'm gonna be more likely to buy it because it was on TV...... NOT.

I bought one similar to it. It's great. I also bought the Pasta Pot and that works great. I bought a salad chopper and it looks like scissors and the food went all over the place and I was not happy. The Handi-Stitch sucks. Unless you have a steady hand, you need to make sure the stickes come out even. My mom got this and some of the stitches were small and some were an inch apart. Not a good thing. The EpilStop stuff burns like hell. My mom used it on her face and she was red for a couple of days.
Ronco products are cool. I have the food dehidrator as I do alot of camping. The elictric scissors are cool too. They work good. Especially for wrapping paper now. I do have a As Seen On TV store here but they dont have the items on a display that you can play with them first. And they dont do returns. Exchanges only. hhmmmm.... I wonder why that is?

The one with the bunwarmer on top is GREAT!!! I use that all the time. Why break out the big grill when you need one burger?

I've never used it, but I worked on a construction project two summers ago with a field service tech who traveled with one. He swore by it. He cooked with it every night in his hotel room. (When you travel for a living, you'll do ANYTHING not to eat at another restaurant.)

Funny, I used one of those things last night, I hate it, and I hate the damned onion chopper too. I didn't buy them, someone got them form me as a gift about 5 years ago. Last night was the first time I used it, only because it was an emergency My food processor is dead.

I think a good gadget that I bought was an ice tea maker. I love suntea but this is quicker without using the powders

I agree. :) I have two different sizes. I got this cookbook - Better Homes and Gardens "Biggest Book of Slow Cooker Recipes" for Christmas last year and it has some great recipes for those of you who don't know what to make in a crockpot.
Another "must-have" is a cast iron skillet.
I went through a 10-year phase where I did a lot of cooking and baking. I have just about every kitchen gaget known to humankind. I can't bring myself to get rid of anything, but I only use about a fourth of the stuff I have. BTW - the Gizmo can opener doesn't work very well.

I bought the "Butter Butler- as seen on TV" at a kitchen store for about $5. That thing has saved me TONS of butter because my daughter is a butter hog & those little ribbons look like more butter than they are!
http://www.seenontv.com/prod-pages/images1/ButterXpress.jpg
I've heard some say that NADS (dontcha love that name) really works. But I can make a sugar wax for pennies that blows all of the commercial stuff out of the water. 2c sugar, 1/4c + 1 Tbs lemon juice, heat to 250F let cool & use like other hot leg waxes.
bbygrl40

I'll tell you what...My daughter bought some nads and you couldnt pay me enough to put that hot wax on my skin cover and rub with a cloth then RIP it off not in this lifetime....good old fashion razors and shave cream works very well for me and I love those ads you see "not sold in stores" well 9 out of 10 times you can find it at Walmart with the label that says not sold in stores...but walmart has this wall and thats where all the Just like on TV gadgets go....lol so I wait if its something i am really intrested in I wait till it comes to walmart then i go check it out.lol

I bought an EpiLady when they first came out. If you like the feeling of having every hair on your leg ripped out by the root, then go for it. Actually, I don't even think they sell those now.

I'm with grinner on the George Foreman Grill... that thing is the bizomb. I've got two: a big one and a small one with the bun warmer. I broke the clasp for the bun warmer after about a week though.
I also have (and use) the gator ratchet head. It's handy for low-torque use on wierd shapes. And I swear by my chopper - an inverted cup with blades that come down and rotate via a plunger. It chops stuff real good.

I had one of them little choppers there ok but I guess I am just use to the little elctric one i have and i really like that one....epilstop is another one i have a friend who swears by it...just spray it on and wipe it off...I have never tried that beacuse some of those type of hair removers have a chemical that I react to so its dont do me any good to fool with that stuff...I would really like to get one of the George Foreman grills I have heard awsome things aboutti from everyone who has used it so maybe if i can get off Santas "forever"naughty list..then maybe he will see fit to bring me one this year:D

All those gadgets...... where do you put 'em? I have a galley kitchen and there is just NO ROOM for anything but the bare essentials. I use my laundry room as a pantry for non-perishable staple items, like soup stocks and other canned goods because there is no room in my kitchen for them.
I've been shedding gadgets for the past two years. I decided not to have seldom-used, single-purpose, highly specialized kitchen crap any more. My ex husband was really into that and had amassed (and left, in various states of not-really-working/missing-one-or-two-parts) quite a collection. I got rid of the tater twister, rice-cooker, fry daddy, ice tea maker, tiny-little-ice-cream-maker, grill cheese sandwich maker, fondue set, baked potato cooker, hot dip server, food dehydrator, etc. etc.
Now I just use my basic pots and pans and I don't have to deal with gadget clutter. Once in a while I see a gadget that looks appealing, but I resist. Unless it is something that I would use very frequently, like my garlic press, I don't need it.
Edited to add: Hmmmm, maybe I should have gotten myself worked up a little more and posted this in the High Horse thread....

Just think all these gadgets just to get out money...and half of them are trash anyways...so I really dont fool much with them...only the ones i know i will use..and use often....I remeber i bought a type of food prep it looked like a giant hand held thingy that you would put the food in a cup and it would chop then puree it...this was awsone when i was raising babies..no more jared food the kids ate what we ate...lol and I still do have the blender!!! every Kitchen needs the blender...not just for mixed drinks..but my boys like icecream floats

That's what I should do, but I'm just not quite there yet. Who knows, maybe someday I actually will serve corn on the cob on those little porcelain plates shaped like corn on the cob. :rollin: Even though I haven't bought anything for awhile, my friends and family still give me stuff. Every time somebody moves or their grandmother dies I get a box of kitchen junk. I keep hoping that if I keep things long enough, I'll have something to take to the Antiques Roadshow. :rollin:

I think I'm soon due for "the clapper". It seems to be making those TV people's lives so much easier!
They had a blurb about "the clapper" on VH1 and were asking celebrity people about it. Kate Pierson, of the B-52's, said she knew someone who had had the clap, but no one who had the clapper!:rollin:

I bought one of those Aero Beds - total crap! The thing was NOT comfortable, and it went flat within 2 days (and no, I was not too fat for it). :D Now the Nad's, I purchased and used. Pain-free, my eema! Hurt like a mother, I nearly passed out. When I quit screaming, I discovered that it worked quite well on the one leg. Did I try it on the other leg? Heck no! Besides, Sally Hanson's stuff works just as well for about 1/3 the price.
Could someone tell me if the Tae-Bo or Pilates tapes work for them? Mine have been sitting on the top of my VCR for about a year, and I don't notice a bit of difference in my abs!

For Christmas, my sister, God love her she gets me the wierdest presents, got me this thing called an Air Massager. Now I've never see this before, but it has the sticker 'As Seen On TV' on the box. I don't even know if I can describe it. It's these pieces of rubber/plastic, one for each thigh and one for each calf and foot. You wrap the pieces around your legs and they velcro shut. There's a number of valves attached and a valve that fits into a small motor. When you turn on the motor, the plastic fills up with air. It's kind of like that thing they use to take your blood pressure except it doesn't get as tight.
I put it on, and I looked like I had had a severe skiing accident. I didn't get to use it for very long, because my neices and nephew were all clamoring for a try. My legs didn't feel the least bit different. I predict this will stay in the closet and never see the light of day again. :rollin:
I should add that she also gave me Uru and the cheat book so her gift giving abilities are not totally off the wall. Of course the 14 emails I sent her saying "I want Uru for Christmas" may have helped. :rollin:

I saw a remote controlled luxury toilet. No joking. It has an adjustable height for the seat, a seat warmer, a "remote controlled" bidet, a warm air blast (to dry you???) and various other things. Now..if it cleans itself, it's well worth the $5,000+ they are asking... :lol

I have OxyClean. For anyone who has kids, it's a Godsend. Seriously. It takes out so much stuff from their clothes. My daughter went sliding through the grass a few weeks ago in PINK pants.
