Babylon 5 was great. It was so great, in fact, that I consider it my favorite Sci-Fi show to date. The acting, character development, and story were absolutely fantastic. I know this is a Farscape board, but I just had to share my opinion, since most of the people on this forum haven't seen this show yet.

Babylon 5 is like Farscape in many ways - for instance, one can't simply jump into the series midway and expect to come out understanding what is going on. Babylon 5, like Farscape, uses huge story-arcs, which require one to start from the beginning to truly comprehend everything. Though the show is somewhat predictable, it doesn't detract from the quality.

I enjoyed the show from beginning to end and I highly suggest this series to every Farscape and Sci-Fi fan. I would love to see a return of this wonderful show because, even though the main story is finished, it still has alot of life left in it. After the Farscape war is over, I would like to see a Save Babylon 5 petition by this same community since it is so well organized.

Watch Babylon 5 - you will NOT regret it.

Many of us here also enjoyed B5. Welcome to the board.

One difference between B5 and Farscape, in regards to bringing the show back, is that JMS (the creator of B5) always said he intended and wrote the story to be a five year show. It lasted five years (although there was some doubt at the end of S4 and that affected how he told the story). But Farscape was not intended to be stopped abruptly after season 4 -- that is why the fan campaign is so strong and so necessary. Everyone had planned on the story being continued.

BTW - There has been recent news on the B5 front. JMS is up to something and we might know more in January sometime.

I am really glad you have enjoyed Babylon 5. It is a marvelous series. Have you seen any of the two hour movies yet? How about Crusade? If not you are in for a treat.

I have to say though that I think many of those who post on this board are actually long-time Babylon 5 fans already. So you don't need to convince us to watch it.:D

As I understand it John Michael Straczynski (JMS) is making very positive noises about continuing the series further. There was a link to an article discussing this not so very long ago.

The return of BABYLON 5?
JMS speaks: something's happening
Dateline: Tuesday, December 2, 2003

Dark Horizons reports reports (via Usenet) that there is something new and significant happening with the BABYLON 5 franchise, and this time it comes straight from the fingers of the show's creator, J. Michael Straczynski. Is it for movie or television format? JMS isn't saying at this time...

"There has been something of rather substantial proportion that's finally gone from talk to money, such that I'm now working frantically to meet some deadlines, but there's nothing I can say about this until after January 15th, probably closer to the end of that month," explains the writer. "The only thing I can say is that phase one of the new project is a go, hence the furious writing schedule at this end of things, which is why I've been silent until
deciding to kick up some dust on the political discussion. I've been writing my little brains out. I wouldn't go on about something in this way if it wasn't a significant development."

There is the B5 project that actor Jerry Doyle was hoping to jumpstart with or without Straczynski's involvement, though this may be something else new under the sun. One thing that is confirmed now is a new BABYLON 5 DVD that collects all the two-hour telefilms together in one box set (including commentary by JMS on "In the Beginning" and "The Gathering") as well as a box set for the short-lived B5 spinoff series CRUSADE. Expect both of those new sets to be released sometime in 2004 after the fifth and final season of BABYLON 5 hit the street.

Strangely enough, I watched Crusade before Babylon 5 - in fact, Crusade is what made me decide to watch the 5 Seasons of Babylon 5. I was blown away, especially since the show was made over 11 years ago.

I also have watched all of the Babylon 5 'movies' - all of which were superb.

I haven't seen Babylon 5 yet, but it is on my short list of television series to get. I may get Firefly first, just because I can get the entire series in one box set, but Babylon 5 really sounds interesting. I didn't know there were movies in addition to the five season box sets. Does anyone know all the movies and any other babylon 5 productions?

Welcome tsarkon.

Before I loved Farscape - I was gaga over Babylon 5. But even then, there is no comparison. Farscape beats Babylon 5 hands down, as my all time favorite science fiction TV series.

The movies are made for TV movies. I think there's about 5 or 6 of them, I'm not sure, off the top of my head there is...

B5- The Gathering
B5- In the Beginning
B5- The River of Souls
B5- Thirdspace
B5- A Call to Arms (my favorite)
B5- Legend of the Rangers

That's all I can think of right now. I don't know if they're on dvd or not.

Thanks. So these are all separate from the B5 boxed sets?

As far as I know only
The Gathering and In The Beginning
is on DVD but they have no extras, only the 2 movies. I think it was released in haste and a lot of B5 fans were outraged at the way it was presented.

BTW seeing as we're talking Babylon 5 here ... did anyone here belong/subscribe to The Zocalo when the show was still on?

I frequented the Lurkers Guide obsessively during the run. Does that count?

I used to love Babylon 5. Don't watch it anymore, though. Scaper fever long ago took hold. . . which is a good thing.

Yeah... I'd have to say I was one of those fans. I mean "In The Beginning" contains spoilers for 4 seasons of the show, and it's included on the same disc as the show's pilot.

For the love of Pete, what kind of boneheaded decision was that?

That's right up there with sandwiching the season finale of a continuity based show between two earlier episodes
*cough*Farscape 2.5*cough*

or putting a trailer that contains spoilers for the entire season of a show on the first disc of said season to be seen before you even get to the first episode!

*cough*Alias: Season 2*cough*

Morons. The people who put these things together really need to get a clue.
