No really, I grow it in the summer as a parasol. A good friend of mine's dad had a lot of trouble with lip cancers from the sun, and the Doc advised him to grow a moustache because it would shade his lips and prevent the skin cancers. He could see that I was going to be prone to this, and so he advised me to do the same. Amazing what it really does. My lips don't get chapped at all when I've got it, but when I shave in the fall, they fry. Then in the winter, I grow it all for insulation...

Long story....

The people downstairs...Mike and his 19 year old daughter Jenny..

Well Mike has a dog that he got about a year ago....I helped him babysit the puppy and then Jenny came to live with him last summer so she would be the new sitter.

I had no problems with the puppy and now that he is a dog and they just recently moved here i still dont have any problems with him...

He can be hyper but I have a knack for training animals and he is very well behaved around me...

Jenny is scared of the dog and he has bitten her for now reason and not even to play. Nothing major and he got his butt whooped for it too by Mike...

Well today he nailed her good and she called out to me as I was in my car getting ready to leave and I ran in and the dog cowered from me and I didnt know why. Jenny was in the bathroom with blood running down her arm and 4 pucture wounds....She didnt want to go to the hospital so i wrapped it up after I cleaned it well...I admit to smacking the dog and putting him in a cage but he isnt my dog...

Mike came home and I havent heard anything but he may or may not get rid of the dog...If he does he will go to the NYS police to be trained by them...I personally dont have a problem with the dog and would hate to see him go but I do have a small child here and my dog does not really like to play with him. What do you think of all this...

Well, who knows if Jenny had been playing too hard with the dog that caused him to do this. Whether the dog was provoked, and I don't mean maliciously, it can't be ignored that the dog bit her. Next time she may not be so lucky. Honestly, if were me and it was my dog, I would give it up. If he has been abused, then maybe he would be better off somewhere else.

He is being specially trained to be a SR dog and he listens to everyone and obeys everyone except her....I would really hate to see a dog like him go to waste. he is a specially bred Czech German Shepherd and he is small for his breed...about 60lbs....

I wish him to go on with his training as he is a good dog just not for her....I dont really want him here as the 2 dogs do not play well...he is still young and mine is 9...I also dont want my daughter out in the yard and have him do it to her. He cowered from me as he knew he did something wrong and he knew I would command him to his cage....

I'd agree with that... but then I'm a cat person so I wouldn't really know.

I'm curious as to why she didn't want to go to the hospital, I know dog bite wounds are not that infectious, but puncture sounds can do some real damage.

I'd hate to print what is going through my mind, a dog that's afraid of being hit, a daughter that is afraid of going to hospital....though I'm probably wrong on that one too.

But it does sound like the dog has some training issues, that may be better addressed by a "professional" handler, for the best interest of all involved.

sounds to me like Jenny needs to administer a little fear herself. Really it sounds like the dog is a bit jealous/protective of it's master and see's Jenny as an intruder/threat. If it can't be remedied, the situation needs to be changed...

Just a guess,

The biting could have started as a jealousy thing when Jenny showed up. She could not be exuding the proper "alpha" presence, which gives the dog the idea he can get away with anything around her, so he continued the behavior, getting worse everytime. If he cowered like that when you ran in, it sounds like the ower was using physical force to punish the dog for biting Jenny. This probably didn't help in the dog's behavior towards Jenny either because he's associating negative stimulus to her. If the dog isn't getting enough attention from the owner, he could be holding on to the bad behavior in order to get any attention from the owner. For some dogs, negative attention is better than no attention.

That's just a guess from what you said, based off what I learned from a canine behaviorist the last couple months. Although, I would really have to see the dog in action to really know.

Either way, it sounds like the dog needs a change of environment. Either by having a behaviorist work with the dog and owner, getting a new home and all new training with a behaviorist, or like you said, going into K9 training would give the dog what it needs.

Yep, what BT said. If they keep the dog, then Jenny needs to go with it to obedience training, so the dog learns to respect her as higher-up in the pack.

Physical force/abuse won't do any good. Plus, the dog has already picked up on the fact that Jenny's afraid and will not respond submissively, but the opposite, to put Jenny in HER place, with the dog dominant.

Any dog that bites a child (unprovoked) needs to be in a home without children, I think---especially if it has happened before.

I'd say more than obedience training. This doesn't sound like the dog has problems with knowing commands (or obeying them around the right people.) It's a behavior problem between the dog and the people. Whether he stays with the current owner or goes to a new home, he and the new or old owner could greatly benefit from sessions with a good behaviorist. Think of it like a more active version of canine therapy. Dog psychology and teaching humans and dogs to communicate better.

That is one cool thing about living in Michigan... we get to see the cars testing before they are out. Heck... the Ford GT was testing last summer at Gratten Raceway, which is right by my house.
