With the final puppy thrown into the portal, it was as if a huge vacuum started up. Abb, being the closest to the portal, screamed out in terror. He started to get sucked into the closing aperture he realized that this was the end. As he struggled to get away from the opening, he suddenly stopped.

‘Hey’ he shouted as he turned his head towards the others. What he saw was puzzling. The demons had disappeared. He had seen a large number of them get sucked back into the portal where he thought he was going to end up, but the others… the ones that the assassin and the demon knight were fighting, as well as the bodies of those that were slain were missing.
‘Hold on,’ shouted grinner, ‘I have you both.’

This was the first time that he noticed that Who was also seemingly floating in air. The suction was still immense, but he wasn’t heading towards the chasm, instead he was slowly being drawn to grinner.

‘I don’t know how long I can hold you all. I need to get you out of here.’
‘What about you,’ asked Who, ‘What are you going to do?’

‘I am going to attempt to get us all out. I don’t know if I will be able to, but helping you escape is what I intend to do.’

‘You don’t look so good’ said Abb while staring at grinner. ‘You look like you can barely… stand… if that is the right term.’

‘I don’t know if I have the strength to get us out. I will attempt to transport us back to my hideout. That should be where the others will attempt to return.’

‘What about Ramee and the others?’ Who asked. ‘They aren’t here now… where did they end up?’

‘Yeah, I saw a group of Them gathering to attack you while I was incanting and releasing the remnants of the Ancients.’

‘Ramee, I think, got away. I saw her gather up her people and then jump out of the portal. I think that they had an escape route planned out. Once I saw the Greater Demon escape, I knew that if they couldn’t stop us, that they would escape back to their… time.’

‘What are we going to do now? We closed the gate, but too many demons got away.’ asked Abb. ‘We need to get to the others and let them in on what happened.’

‘I think that they know what happened.’ replied Who. ‘It probably was fairly obvious what was happening inside the portal. Demons had to have gotten out. They had to have battled with the others… I just hope that the others don’t try to do anything too extreme in their fight. The last thing that we need is for them to ‘Nuke’ the place.’

‘You don’t think that they would do that? Not Scrape.’

‘I wasn’t talking about Scrape, I was talking about the trigger happy Agent. Frun.’

‘Enough, there is time for this once I get us out.’

That said, the demon knight gathered his thoughts and attempted to flee the collapsing tunnel. The force that was flowing through the collapsing tunnel was too strong though. His final attempt wasn’t enough. With a sigh, he turned to the others.

‘I can’t get all of us out. I don’t have the strength. I will get you out and then attempt to ride out the collapse.’

‘That’s suicide’ Abb retorted. ‘You can’t do that.’

‘You’re too important, you are the one that can defeat the…’ started Who.
‘NO!’ interrupted grinner, ‘I am done. If I don’t make it out, I have done my job, what I was born and bred to do. I closed all the gates. The demons won’t bring a return to their… ‘Time’. I am done.’

‘But, there is so much you can do. So much you can help us with. Explain to us.’ Abb was stressed out. Everything that he had learned today, everything that happened to him… he needed grinner to explain. Explain how he knew Scrape. How the Doctor knew Scrape. Why Who was so defensive about what happened to their father. The demon knight knew. He knew.

‘You know you don’t have to do this,’ Who said, ‘I will stay, I am the one that caused the damage… I should be the one to be sacrificed. You are more important.’

‘Me? Important? I did my job, I am done. Everything has been set in motion. You need to know what is going to happen.’

With that said, the demon knight gathered all of his energy and memories and gave them to the siblings… if he wasn’t able to survive, his knowledge would. The older sister/ younger brother would have some problems with what they would learn, would gain better understanding of why they had done what they did… and they would learn that Grinnadel knew how he would end… centuries before. The last sight they saw of grinner was of the man, seemingly smaller, slowly turning away and disappearing. Then there was the searing pain erupting through their brains, of centuries of visions and recollections and thoughts burrowing inside their thoughts. What was his… and what was theirs… until only their thoughts remained, and the demon knights knowledge was fully absorbed.

They were almost out of the tunnel when everything exploded with a cataclysmic and resounding bang. Then they knew no more…

The nuclear spoon exploded just as the assassin and the professor reached the entrance to the portal.

Abb
The pain was so intense. He felt like he was being torn apart. Never had he felt such... agony. It was as if he all of his nerves were erupting at the same time. Nausea and tremors throughout his stomach but nothing was able to evacuate his body. It lasted for years... or so it appeared. When he came to, he wasn't able to see anything. He could tell that he was in a temperate climate, but until his vision returned, he was lost. Slowly shaking his head, he collapse into an exhausted sleep.

When he awoke, his vision had returned. Looking around, he knew that he wasn't in either England or the US. Where ever he was, the stench was beyond belief. Slowly he climbed up to his feet and turned around.

'Oh Frell.' Abb remarked in dispair, 'This isn't good.'

What was in view, was something that he didn't expect. The Pyramids of Giza... under construction.

'Well old boy, took you long enough to get here.' stated a voice that he hadn't heard in... years.

'You... you're dead... dad?' Abb remarked in total shock and confusion.

Who

The shock of the explosion was immense. Who realized right away what had happened. The Agent had used something that he shouldn't have. He hadn't trusted the demon knight, Abb or herself to close the portal. He had thought that a nuclear device would be enough to stop the demons.

'Arrgg!!!' screamed Who.
'Why? Ugh... this is going to hurt.'

Little did she realize how true her words would be. Since grinner had aimed both her and Abb towards his hideout, she was hoping that this wouldn't knock her too far off course. She fought to remain conscious, struggling to understand what was happening. Then a thought raced through her mind. Why not use her newly gained knowledge.

'I need to concentrate. Concentrate on the computer room. In the main room. In the hideout.'

With all her might, she concentrated on the room where she met the Doctor. Where her conversion had become complete. Where she learned everything that she had thought was true and real, were infact false.

With a flash, she arrived just outside the computer room. The only problem was... is that when she regained her complete senses, the group was just leaving for the Mansion.

'Frell, I arrived too early. This is bad.'

Grinnadel

With his last bit of energy, the man known as grinner pushed his companions to safety. It was the least he could do, since he knew that he was going to die. Nothing else to do, but accept his fate. He had a good life, saw more things than anyone in existence had see. Done more than anyone ever before. Sure it was all for a cause, a fight. But he still lived a wonderful life. No regrets... well... no major regrets. But now was not the time for regrets. Now was the time for accepting of fate. Of his death.

'Well, now I will finally see my parents again. Funny, how I never thought about them for the thousands of years that I have existed... but upon my death, I can only think of my childhood.'

As he turned to enter the rapidly closing portal, to drift to his death, a massive explosion engulfs him.

'Well, this is new. Wonder what's next? Is this the end?'

After having fought the Demons and Them, Who knew that Frun and the others were going to have a hard time fighting against them. She, grinner and Abb had barely survived it themselves. At the thought of The Demon Knight she couldn't help but feel some sadness at his sacrifice. It was an odd feeling after spending hundreds of years trying to kill him, and in the end to become allies. Then her thoughts turned to Abb. Where was he...did he make it out alive? After that sudden force of being expelled from the portal, there was no telling what happened to him. She could think about that later, right now she had to find a way to help the others..but how? Not only was she not in the precise time that she had wanted to be, but the explosion had left her displaced in time. Since she was out of phase with the present time, she could not physically go to the mansion and join the fight. As she looked around the room for anything that would be useful, she began to realize that her mind was becoming clearer then it had been before she had been expelled from the portal. In fact, she was able to concentrate and was aware of things more clearly than she could ever remember before. It must have something to do with all of grinner's knowledge and memories being passed to her and Abb. She walked over to the nearest computer and touched the screen in amazement. She could recite every computer program...every file that was stored on it. She spun around to another computer and smiled to herself....she knew everything that was on that one as well. She looked around. She now knew every detail about the place. It was if this had been her hideout. This new found knowledge was a bit overwhelming. She had to mentally shake herself to get back to the task at hand. There was nothing in here that would help the others now. She ran to the weapon room. Most of the weapons had already been taken by the others..but there had to be something she could use....then she saw it..there in the corner of the room was a backpack. She walked to it and opened it up. Inside were weapon clips... clips to a mighty big gun.

'Silly girl. Now how far did you get without these.' she remembered BC and her determination to take the biggest gun with her. She had to smile to herself as she remembered her holding that it after Frun teased her. She hoped that she was able get some use out the gun...and handle it for that matter.

'Probably ended up on your backside.' That was it...this was how she could help. That gun would probably have destroyed half the demons, but since she didn't take the extra ammo, they would not stand a chance once the ammo ran out. But how was she going to get it to them. Then the answer came to her. She closed her eyes and began to concentrate. She felt almost as if she were split in two..it didn't hurt...just felt as if she became two parts of a whole. She could see herself walking beyond the room...next thing she knew she was in the mansion. Demon bodies littered the floor...and more were coming. BC and Frun were laying on top of what once was a table. She went to BC as she was standing up and making her way over what was left of the demon bodies. She pushed her upper back to knock her back down so she could put on the backpack.

'Hey, don't push.' she turned around and looked right at her, but Who knew that she could not see her. 'Wait...no one is behind me...'

'What is that on your back BC....' Frun's voice faded...she could not hear BC's response.

She opened her eyes and she was back at the hideout. That little trick left her feeling a bit tired. She wondered how grinner had done this, but then again, he had many years of practice. She walked back to the computer room on shaky legs. She needed to sit for a minute. She knew she could not rest long...there was still much to do and there was the possibility that if the Demons or They got a hold of the armor, they might make their way here. Too many had died and there was too much information here to let Them gain access to it. She would guard this place with her life if need be. Sitting in a chair she was very tempted to close her eyes and sleep...if only for a minute. A picture by the computer caught her eye. She picked it up. It was the picture of Abb, BC, grinner, scrape and Frun. Two things about that picture made her take a closer look...she was now in the picture and since the picture had not been taken yet, grinner's image should be absent since he no longer existed...but there he was...still there. She looked at it a second time as if to reassure herself at what she was seeing.

'He's alive.' she whispered. She didn't know how...or even if it was the same grinner that she had known...it could be him from another time in his life...time could be funny that way. But one thing was for sure...somehow someway he was alive.

Well today I really bruised my a$$. I was standing on a chair and lost my balance and tried to catch myself but I stumbled and landed up against the corner of a box. So I now have a bruise about 3 inches around on the left cheek of my butt. What I was doing on a chair in the first place is a long story that I dont think would be appropriate for the board as it is a sad story as well. It was something I had to do and it wasnt a pleasant job to say the least. Its been a long day and one I dont ever want to repeat again for as long as I live.

This is one of the other pressies I got. It's called a dream mist machine. The picture really doesn't do it justice. You put it together in a tulilp like bowl (large!!). Then you put water in it and it changes the water into mist and the lights make it change color from blue to orange to red. Again, I got it in the blue for the contrast. I had to blow the mist slightly so that you could see the difference.

We interrupt this inane babbling to bring you a late breaking alert... thanks to some quiet persistance, and a bit of strong arming, we are quite pleased to announce the continuing adventures of a boy and his dog... no wait, that's not right, it was dogs... er... puppies, no not puppies... somethings... oh whatever... anyrate, let's cut to our overblown self-important voice-over already in progress...

Previously on Tables...

Our erstwhile government agent is starting to have a crisis of conscience for placing an innocent in the Scrying Room chair, well basically innocent, basically, as well as quite possibly destroying the only means of escape for three illustrious comrades in arms, although he will undoubtedly be looking at a commendation for saving half an American county from nuclear devastation, as well as the incumbent presidential staff from having to explain how such a calamity could have possibly occurred, with all the usual fallout from a foreign nuclear weapon activation on U.S. soil, always a hard thing to explain away, especially in an election year...

Meanwhile, our favorite SAS commando is having her own crisis, one of the heart, as she believes her new found friend is lost on the wrong side of the nuclear devastation, and the portal to the abyss, or whatever it was, is now closed to her forever, and the inevitable consequences on her future role with the Special Ambulance Service...

grinner, after many attempts, has closed the final portal, sacrificing himself to save the world, sending his comrades to safety, and managing to do all of it, with not only a certain flair, but without a hair out of place...

Abb and Who, while caught on the wrong side of the portal, are transported to safety, although not exactly where they had intended, or when for that matter. Who, back at the hideout, just in time to deliver some much needed ammo for BC's big gun, and with the sudden realization that grinner just might be alive, and wearing a very stylish set of black leather boots, although one of the zippers is in need of a bit of attention...

Abb, apparently, has been sent even farther back in time, to ancient Egypt, where not only can he practice his ancient scroll reading, but also using his practiced architectural and engineering skills help design out the fundamental flaws of the Giza Pyramids that had been haunting him since his studies a child... oh yeah, and there is that dead father thing too...

Kat, LL, and Ol' Humphrey are missing, possibly deceased, or worse, and undoubtedly familiar fixtures on the tables of breakfast aficionados everywhere...

While our nearly infamous BC, while temporarily out of it, again I might add, is presumably going to play an important role soon, as we have been informed by her agent who keeps flashing her contract papers at us, like we ever read the fine print...

Will the agent retain his license to kill?
Will Scrape continue to perform her duties as a valuable member of the SAS?
Could grinner still be alive?
Where will Who end up? And just as importantly, will she fix that zipper?
Is Abb really ready to meet his deceased father, and what will the modern world think about his addition of skylights in the esteemed pyramids?
Can Kat, LL, and Ol' Humphrey be rescued?
What future important role is BC up to?
All these questions and more to be answered on Tables... starting right now...

The quiet seemed a bit leery, the inaction tedious, after hours of tumultuous bedlam, things were finally beginning to settle down, thanks to the timely arrival of 6th Platoon, B Company, 3rd Para Battalion. The Guardsmen had quickly formed up, established a communication link, and secured the perimeter. Teams were now patrolling the outlying areas, mopping up what seemed the remnants of the dreaded demon hordes, lulls of silence occasionally interrupted by the sound of automatic weapons fire. The Guardsmen were quick, efficient, and ruthless. And their highly decorated commander, Lt. Percival Wellington Smythe, felt sufficiently in control to suggest a dinner break with what remained of the original portal party, now wittled down to a third, and feeling the pangs of the battle's worth. The remorse of the survivors, with so many gone, seemed to drain the life out of everyone.

Taking command of the situation, it was what Percival was trained for, what he strived for, what he was bred for. The latest in a colorful line of infantry officers, he had taken pride in being the commander of the first Guards unit in the elite 16th Airborne Assault Brigade. The best of the best. The demons were but another enemy to be dealt with, but the party's ill spirits might infect the platoons' men, Guardsmen, his men, and he was not gonna let that happen.

Sergeant!

Sir! Staff Sergeant Ian Roberts snapped crisply to attention.

Have the staff at that mansion prepare an evening meal, with all the accoutrements, we'll be dining in style tonight.

Yes sir!

And Sergeant, invite those civilians as our guests, with all courtesies.

Yes sir! I'll have Paddy attend to it. The sargeant trots off a bit, and with his best company sargeant major impression, Paddy! Get your blooming backside over here quicktime!

Sometime later...

The smell attracts the agent's attention, he follows it down the steps, takes the first right, and then notices it. The mass of demon dead, seems the soldier boys had been quite busy, aside from an untold number of stains, the corridors were nearly cleared. But that aroma, that wasn't any demon smell, that was fine cooking, and he wondered when was the last time any of them had eaten? Hell, what day was it for that matter? But the stomach would not be denied, food was suddenly pushing aside all other matters. No need to cause any friction in British-American relations, they could all probably eat a horse by now, and what was cooking was definitely not smelling like horse. A glance in a hall mirror stops him in his tracks. Jesus, I look like a mess, better get cleaned up a bit, look presentable to the Queen's rep, so as not to antagonize a certain commando any further. He bounds up the stairs, taking two at a time, heading for the nearest quarters. A shower, a clean shirt, it was bound to do him wonders.

The water felt good, good hell, great! It was incredible the difference in attitude being clean felt. And with all the soldiers running about, there didn't seem to be any immediate concern over safety. Putting on a commandeered shirt, he checks the room mirror. Better, not great, the eyes still look like hell, but better. Now to gather up BC, might need her help to persuade Scrapes to join. Frun doesn't get three feet down the hall, the special phone rings, an unmistaken sound. It could only be one person. No one, not even the jerk selling the 'free' vacation just for buying three years worth of magazines you would never read, could possibly get that number. Nope. Just the one man, the Boss, head of America's most secret organization, the Big O, so secret most people who had even heard rumors of it considered it a myth.

See you're still up and about, no lingering ill effects from portals, demon hordes, angry commandos, glow in the dark silverware, or pretentious officers I presume? the voice chuckles and then the cough, the man undoubtedly behind the same desk, wearing the same suit, in a darkened room, with a lighted window behind him. Always, even at night, you never really see his face, ever, but one always recognizes the voice, the chuckle, and the cough. Definitely the cough, it designated the change in conversation, any further word on the Demon Knight?

No sir, not a thing, nothing since the closure of the portal.

No problems with the mini-nuke?

No, it was sent through the portal, right before it closed. the memory causing me to clench my teeth.

Had to be done. We had to be sure.

About the portal, or the man? the agent asked the pertinent question.

A pause, was he thinking, or just feeling the agent out on the matter, Frun realizes clenching the teeth was a mistake.

Are your loyalties clear on this matter? the voice on the line sounding exactly the same, no change in tone or inflection.

Sir, my loyalties are always clear.

Indeed they always have been. Let me make this absolutely clear. This agency, this government, is concerned over the abilites of a certain individual. These abilities could cause certain destabilizations in the current status quo. This agency will not allow that. Am I clear?

Damn, first Abb and now this, even though the thought was always there, agencies like his would never allow a loose cannon run around and muck up their plans, nope, that was not gonna happen, it would have to be dealt with, and the mini-nuke was allowed into the country for just that purpose, everything was clear now, Scrape may have thought they were closing the portal for good, and they were, but they were ensuring that there was gonna be one casualty. No matter what. And now they wanted to be sure. They wanted their pound of flesh, on a platter. And they wanted to be sure…

Scrape had managed to find some clothes to put on; being clean and dry helped somewhat, not much but some. She had sat down in the semi-darkness of the room, the single lit candle flickering in the draughts that had resulted from half the windows of the mansion blown out by the BIG GUN and its resulting pressure blasts. She had been there for a while, looking round at the artifacts that Abb had collected; some she had trouble relating to him but others seemed 'just him'. The figurine with the head wrenched round, the story of it that Abb had related to her seemed so him; it seemed appropriate to her state of mind too, and she wondered whether anyone would notice if it disappeared.

"What the hell......half the house has disappeared, along with a few of its residents!" she muttered to herself, thinking of the old gentlemen of the mansion and wondering where many of them had gone. Seems the agent and her comrades had been brought there to fight and when the battle began, the residents had bolted; well at least some of them had stayed, and some had paid too.

And there were others missing, LL, Kat and Ol'Humphrey; Scrape could only hope that they were alive somewhere, but it looked bleak. She dropped her head and closed her eyes. She knew there could and probably would be casualties in this mission, she wondered whether they had achieved all they were sent here for, that it was over. If they lost personel at the same rate as they seemed to be at the moment, if it was not yet over, they would be no one left by this time tomorrow!

The knock at the door broke that rather unhappy train of thought, and Scrape was almost grateful to answer it. Opening the door she saw Frun and BC waiting for her. Frun look strangley ill at ease and she gave him the look, the one which asked what it was that was bothering him. He just shook his head, brushing the question off. BC looked remarkably perky, considering all that they had gone through, and it would seem that Scrape was not the only one to have washed and found clean clothes to wear.

"What can you smell Scrapes?" Frun asked.

She looked at him, startled "What?"

BC just beamed a big smile; whatever it was that had got into these two was obviously making her happy. Tentatively and just in case the pair had been sniffing some happy gas, Scrape inhaled.

Visions of a country pub on a sunday afternoon hit her in waves. Crowded in round dark stained wooden tables, begging for elbow space, the constant hum of conversation, the clink of glasses being collected to be cleaned and refilled. The open fires keeping the winter chill at bay, the snap of splinters exploding in the heat. Every now and then the front door to the lounge bar would open and a rush of winter would find its way through the legs of the drinkers and diners, settling on the grey slate floor. The smell of hops and barley ingrained into the fabric of the building for one small moment in the week becomes overwhelmed by the smell of something hot and inviting, Sunday roast. Slices of beef buried under a veil of gravy, perfectly roasted potatoes, an assortment of vegetables and horseraddish sauce. Not forgeting Yorkshire puddings, can't have a roast beef dinner without yorkshires, oh no!

Scrape had not realised how hungry she was, "When was the last time we ate?"

BC and Frun just shrugged, "Must be the elixer wearing off, but I am as hungry as a horse!" was all that BC could offer.

The three made their way down to the dining room, and Scrape noticed the antique candelabra had made its way back out of the cupboard and back into the centre of the table. What was left of the curtains had been pulled back across the holes where the windows had been and apart from the odd damage to the walls and floors it looked almost 'normal' in there.

"See you're keeping up the British end there Leuitenant!" Scrape commented.

"Of course, no point letting ones standards down when it comes to good fare" he replied heartily, rising up from his chair to welcome the women in to the room.

From the other side of the table Sergeant Roberts cleared his throat as he stood. Scrape looked round at him and noticed him looking at her legs. She looked down at herself, checking to make sure in all her reveries upstairs she had not forgotten to don something on her lower half. 'Nope, I got trousers on.' she thought.

"Oh.......Sir, apologies, I am not exactly dressed for a formal dinner am I sir?" The old mess room protocol flooding back to her and the old feeling of a sudden need to apoogise for a lack of maintaining standards. Scrape remembered the rule about women in the mess room had to wear skirts, but she did not even think she had one with her. And dammit all, why was she worrying about that now.

"I think we can forego one or two breaches in protocols Sergeant, considering the circumstances," he turned to Scrape and offered her a seat at the table.

"Damn right we can!" muttered Frun under his breath, as he pulled out a chair for BC to sit on, though it would seem that he had not forgotten the protocols regarding seating your female companion at the table.

Scrape flashed the look at him again, "I hope we are not going to keep this up all evening Frun, I just want to sit and eat in a bit of peace and calm." Frun grunted, but dropped it. Too exhausted to argue, they all just wanted to fill their bellies and replenish their energy stores .

With the women seated the men took to their chairs. A representative number of the paras had joined them at the table for this formal meal, but Scrape could hear the others already tucking into theirs in the other room.

Paddy entered the room and with a bit of uncommon pazzaz began to serve the food. It looked good and when they began to tuck in Scrape knew it would not take long for her to clean her plate. But before she had gotten to her second roast potato, Mac entered the room and said, "There is a call for you." It took her a while for her to realise he was speaking to her. Scrape looked longingly at her unfinished meal, seems whe woud not even get to eat before it all kicked off again.

Grabbing her glass of Bordeaux, she excused herself from the table and followed Mac to the communcations centre. Taking a huge slurp of the wine before seating herself down in fromt of the laptop, she kept the glass out of sight of the webcam. Not surprisingly see saw the figure of Major Albright on the screen.

"Sir" she began.

"Ah, Scrape, good to see you made it thus far."

'Thus far?' she thought.

"I need confirmation from you that the gate was closed."

'Oh, straight to business, don't mind me'

"As far as I can be sure Sir. The numbers of demons exiting the portal just before it closed was reducing, I can assume that it was because the gate had closed at that point in time Sir."

"And the package was delivered?"

"I can confirm that sir." She knew that he would already have intelligence on that particular subject but would want to hear it from his own operative in the field.

"Good." he seemed satisfied. "Hmm...I need you to confirm something else Scrape. The professor.......the rumours are he is no longer with you at the mansion."

Like she needed reminding. Seems everywhere she turned his absence was being pointed out to her. "Sir, Professor Abbadon is MIA, presumed dead."

"Dammit all to hell Scrape!"

Surprised by his sudden and uncharacteristic outburst all she could muster was "Sir?"

"Hoping your presence would protect him this time." and then seemed to check himself, as if he had said too much already.

"Sir?" What did he mean this time, how would he know about other timelines?

"We needed his expertice Scrape; its not over yet, not until all hostile targets have been eliminted and accounted for."

Scrape's head was realing; her presence? Was he suggesting that she had been put in this situation only to protect the Professor, and why her. She knew of other SAS commandos who had much more experience in the field than she did.

"I don't understand sir, how could you know about the other timelines?"

She could see the Major fighting with himself, should he tell her nothing and keep it on a need to know basis, of which she did not need to know, or should he let her in on the secrets give her a bone to chew on, motivate her.

He settled for one statement, "Your father knew.....his work....."

Scrape stared at the screen speachless. She knew her father had been involved in the research team, well she knew that now, but she had never known exactly what his role was. He had been part of the senior staff dealing in the more unusual cases that she had worked on, the ones that she had worked on with Abb. She had questioned this before, in the armory at the hideout, when she had learned that the man who had appeared at ther home that christmas was this elusive Doctor, this man who seemed to have all the knowledge of the various timelines.

But why her, how had she gotten herself dragged into all this. If it was just because she was her fathers little 'Button', someone he had felt he could trust because she was family then hell, she has had to go through all this just because!

She has been allowed to develop feelings for Abb, to be hurt by his disappearance because she had been born into the wrong family. Here was Major Albright berating her for losing the Professor with no account of her feelings. Not that he would know how she felt, but bloody hell she felt that she had been set up all along.

'Well screw them!' she screamed in her head, 'I ain't playing anymore, they can screw with someone else's head from now on'

"Sir"

"Yes Scrape." dissapointment still resounding in his voice.

"I would like to tender my commis........" Scrapes head snapped round to the left.

"Scrape? What was that.......did you say your resigning?!"

Scrape was not paying attention to him anymore, something familiar, some noise was gaining attention.

"Scrape?!"

"Sir" she snapped, still looking in the direction the noise had come from.

"Scrape!!"

Mac, who had remained a decent distance away, moved forward to the satellite transponder and wiggled it. "Seems we are having a communications breakdown."

Scrape stood up, took another slug from her glass of wine, and slowley moved to the door. Mac stopped her breifly, gently holding her back at the shoulder. "You didnae wanna resign now did yae."

She looked at the paratrooper, "Maybe not." Seems there was still work to be done.

Making her way up to her room, BC was looking a little worse for wear and she felt very stiff and sore. The battle behind her, she felt drained, exhausted and worried for her companions. Six of which were now missing. The spoon tossed into the portal must have been certain death to Who, grinner and abb. The demons made off with LL, Kat and Ol' Humphrey. But there was something else there with them. Them. What would They want with them?

Reaching the door, the thoughts changed to something more depressing. The puppies. They were puppies damnit! Why? Why did they have to die! Turning the knob, a few tears started to fall. The door creaked open. The room was silent. Too silent.

No sun beamed through the window. The room was dimly lit due to a single candle glowing from atop a dresser on the far side of the room. Standing in front of the window, the reflection that came into view was not expected. The image was not of the same person. The reflection was tired, wet, drained. Closing the heavy drapes, thoughts of a hot shower slipped into her mind.

Walking to the bed, the backpack was the first thing to go. The backpack. How did it get there? Emptying out her pockets in her jeans she remembered stuffing them with all kinds of things. Grenades, small guns, and some little green balls about the size of marbles were among the contents now spread out on the bed. What were they for? Something to ask Frun next time. Grabbing up the items, she placed them all carefully in the backpack.

Removing her wet clothes and tossing them in the corner, thoughts of the previous days went through her mind. Hell. That was the only way to describe it. Hell. The armor released and fell to the floor. Finally she was able to breathe deeply again. The marks from it visible on her skin. Would there be a need for that again?

There would. The battle is not over. Far from over. There will be time for those thoughts later. Time. Always about...time. The demons and Them. They have the others. The demons are just puppets. They were used by Them to destroy us all. Now they have them somewhere. Where are they? Where the hell are they?

The shower felt good. It cleaned away the battle on the outside but the one on inside still raged. So many unanswered questions. Standing in front of the mirror, the BC that first entered this house appeared. But the BC on the inside was different. It must be the elixir. It's starting to wear off now. Turning to begin dressing, she notices the brand on her back. He never did tell me what I needed to know about all this. Now he, Kat and Ol' Humpf are out there, somewhere. There must be a way. The has to be a way.

The clean, dry clothes felt good. The feelings of hunger and the need to sleep were overwhelming. Grabbing her bag, she dug into the bottom and found her phone. Six messages missed. All from the same caller. She lets out a small laugh at the messages. It's a little to late to respond to these. A knock on the door startles her. Opening it she finds Frun standing there.

"Hungry?"

Nodding she steps out the door and they head down the hall to see what scrape was up to.

Kat woke up to find herself in a darkened room. Or at least it seemed like a room, it was inside, but inside what she had no idea. Taking time to let her eyes adjust to the low light levels, she used her ears to sense her way around this place. In front she could hear the noise of gentle breathing, old breathing with a slight added snore. 'Hmm, might be Ol'Humphrey'.

Then off to her left somewhere in the gloom, she heard a voice quietly recanting, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.." Recognising those dulcet tones she cried out. "LL is that you?"

"Kathleen, you're awake!"

"I think, unless this is just some horrendous dream." She shook her head, trying to clear the fog from her mind. She wanted to get up and find her way over to where LL was, but found instead that her hands and legs had been bound. "LL, can you move?"

"Nope, don't think so."

Then as they fell silent again, a crack of light appeared. The sudden brightness meant that Kat could not see clearly any outlines, anything that would give her a clue as to where they were. She tried to hold her hands up to block off the light but her wrists were tied so tightly it was hard to bring her arms up. All she could see was some of THEM maybe, maybe demons, she could not tell, enter the room and move in LL's direction.

"Kat!" she heard him yell.

"What's hapening LL?!"

"I don't know? Arrgh! Get off me you bastards!"

She could hear LL struggling against THEM, could hear him being dragged along the floor out of the room. Then the opening shut tight again. Fearful for what was happening to him, she listened intently.

Cries of "No!" and "get away from me with that thing!" where followed by shouts of agony. Kat could not bear to hear anymore, but still she listened, drawn to share the agony of her comrade. Then there was quieter sounds, moans of resignation, then silence.

She tried her hardest to sit up onto her knees, shuffling towards the opening, trying to hear anything she could, that would give her a clue to the fate of her friend. Staring into the darkness she whispered "LL?" but no reply.

She sat there for a long time, wondering, worrying. Then after she had given up all hope, she heard movement and then grunts and groans, something being dragged along the floor, the door being opened and LL finally shoved back into the dark hole that was their prison.

"LL?" she whispered again, this time she got a reply, a few groans at first then whispered words. She shuffled her way over to where he was and then, as best as she could, felt around with her hand, trying in her mind to see what they hand done to him. Finding his left arm, she felt for a pulse. It was there but fast and weak. Sliding her hands up his arm towards his face, she felt something cold and wet on the inside of his elbow. What was this? "LL, what did they do to you?" she asked as she brought her hands up to her face, sniffing the liquid on her fingertips.

"THEY, they ........." he started, she leaned in close to hear him, "they bled me! They took my blood!"

Seated to dinner, the table looks somewhat elegant considering the circumstances. Was it just a few hours ago that this room was turned up side down? This table. This very same table once sheltered LL and Kat from the blast that nearly destroyed them all. The candelabra was placed back in the center of the table. The painting made it back to it's rightful place on the wall. The drapes, tattered and slightly burned were at least attempting to cover some of the damage. Cracks along the walls and ceiling were there to remind one of the violence that once shattered through the room. The chandelier...missing. The sound of it crashing on the floor is now a mere echo in the back of the mind.

Everyone was seated and ready to eat. Looking around at the others, BC could see that they were trying to return to a normal routine. Normal. Was there really such a word? She couldn't remember what normal was. She tried to be cheerful in spite of it all. But all she could feel was numb. Scrape stood and mumbled something. At least it sounded like a mumble. The sounds of the battle were still fresh in her mind. The memories seemed to drown out what everyone was saying. She looked at Frun. He was watching her. Concern visible on his face. He placed his hand on hers and asked if she was alright. Nodding that she was, he continued on with his meal.

Beef. The smell of beef. Blood. Them. Something wasn't right. Something was just not right. Looking at the others, she tried to see what could have triggered the uneasy feeling. They were all talking. They seemed relaxed and enjoying the meal. She looks down at her plate again. Beef. Blood. There was someone or something moving around in the room. No. It can't be. No! Trying to remain calm she looks at Frun again.

"Can you feel it?" She places her had on his arm. "Something is not right."

11-03-2004, 09:20 AM
Mister had waited, for too long now. Every daylight hour spent looking out the window, watching for any sign that she might return. The others, the ones whose voices he recognised from the other side of the wall, were nice enough. They popped in and fed him, changed his litter tray, and when they had some spare time, would sit and play with him for a while. But it was not the same. No one to curl up with at night, more noticable now that the winter was drawing in. No one to paddle in the morning and play that game with, the one where the human sees how long they can resist the cats insistent nose batting and finally conceed and acknowledge defeat by getting some food for the victor.

No one to sit and stare at until they finally managed to work out, with their obviously underdeveloped brains, that he wanted to go out and hang with his friends; especially the tabby and white across the road. Now she was hot, but as his human had not been there, he had hardly had a chance to go out and meet her. Mister sighed to himself, she is probably hanging with that black tom by now, he thought, forgotten all about me.

He wondered if his human had forgotten about him too, it had been ages since she got some strange visitors and packed a small bag. He remebered the night well, he had tried everything to prevent her leaving, even sitting in the case and pretending that he was a pajama case that she had packed by mistake. But she had seen through him, and despite her hugs and reassuring noises, he had felt that this may be the last time he would see her.....at least in this timeline.

He jumped down off the window sill, padded slowley toward the kitchen, sniffed the food in his food bowl. He didn't even have the heart to eat, well, 'not right now........okay just one bite'. Then a noise at the door startled him, who could that be he wondered, 'her?' He ran to the edge of the bed and peered round, cautious in case it was really burglers. But the noise was followed by silence. Quietly he crept forward, 'it couldn't have been that funny human who turns up in the morning with the bright rustley clothes and pokes things through the hole in the front door, its too late in the evening for that!' But that is what is sounded like to him. Getting closer he noticed that there was something on the floor, brown and flat. He sniffed it, looked all over it, and decided that even though it had some strange markings on it, "photograph - do not bend" whatever that meant, that it probably was not a danger.

He wondered if it could be something he could sharpen his claws on, and decided that he would give it a try.

Hm... beef, and cooked well, seems the overly polite conversation and formal gathering just might be worth sitting through for such a meal as this. Seems everything was slipping back into normalcy, no one was hunting them, no swarms of demons, just a quiet calm evening. Of course it was boring, but with the last few days, the change of pace was welcome. At least until the old habits kicked in, the longing for action, the thrill of the chase. But tonight, it was peaceful, like the eye of a storm, just out of chaos, and all was serene, but one sensed that all wasn't well. The itch was there, that tingle along the spine, the tickle just at the back of the neck. One could only ignore it for so long, and then back to reality. Reality? Was that what one called what they had been through? Dante's Inferno maybe, but reality, nah, just didn't seem the right word... and now that sixth sense was working overtime, a little alarm was going off, heightening the senses, something was gonna happen. Something bad.

Can you feel it? BC places her hand on the agent's arm. Something is not right.

One would usually ignore such a message, if leading a normal life, just another sensory input, note, file and store, but not now, not this night. Things were too calm... everything seemed right in the world, and when one knows it's not, all minor feelings are instensified. Some might call it an animal instinct, self preservation... more like the latter, as nuances, however slight, if noticed appropriately kept one alive, especially in this kind of work. There were things to do, places to go, people to see. The interlude was concluding, dynamic forces were at work, one did not have to understand them as Abb had, or sense them to the extent of BC, to notice they were there. The air seemed to ripple with electricity... and there was the hair standing up on the back of the neck again... familiar, and not like an old memory, no, something much more recent. Much like the first portal. Portal? There couldn't be a portal, they had closed it. Of that the agent was sure, there was no portal. Couldn't be, not after they had risked so much, fought so hard, sacrificed so many... and yet, there was that feeling...

He looked into BC's now widened eyes, she could sense it, no, more than that, she could see it, feel it, the portal was reflected along with the fear in her eyes. There, a trace of blue, just a momentary shimmer... it was unmistakable, a portal was opening, and near, very near... Frun stood up, toppling his chair, turning and drawing matching Berretta's in one swift motion, the lieutenant stopped in midsentence, everyone at the table pausing instantly for that one precious second. Scrape, entered the room, started to speak, but stopped, instead glancing across the table, past the agent's shoulder. She too stood still, then drawing her weapon, and establishing an offensive stance, smoothly, efficiently, SAS commando written all over her menacing move.

The blue light grew in intensity, the three party members braced themselves once again. Whatever had opened this portal was stepping through, and they were once again moving toward the fray. Frun could hear the paras forming up behind him, heard the bolts lock, dismissed the muttered curses, they were primed once again. Break over, a smile crossed his lips, he lived for this, in a world of sheep there were wolves, and it was better to be a wolf than a sheep. And the wolves were out and hunting tonight... yes indeed, life was good... Berretta's trained upward as a figure stepped through... at least one wolf grinned this fortnight, at least one... grinned as he recognized a shiny black leather boot, and a zipper, a zipper that at that moment in time, needed just a bit of attention...

As Who stepped thru the portal she noticed two things, first was that Frun, BC and Scrape had managed to stay alive. The second thing she noticed, was there were a lot of men pointing weapons at her. She had grown impatient waiting for Them to come to the hideout. She was never the type to just sit and wait. She had been trained to fight, not to sit and do nothing. At first she wanted to go look for Abb or grinner, but she had no idea where to start looking. Abb could have been thrown out at any place or at any time, and grinner...well she had no choice but to wait and see if he found her and the others since she did not know which grinner existed now. So, she decided that she would go where she would be needed most.Since she had been at grinner's hideout for a long while, she should be in sync with their time again. She didn't know how and couldn't explain it, but somehow staying at the hideout had made that possible. She had felt a sort of...shift. So, now here she was, staring at all these weapons that were aimed at her. She drew her daggers...not that they could stop bullets no matter how quick she was, but she would at least take a few of those men down with her. She then glanced at Frun..who was smiling very oddly...and seemed very fascinated with her boots. He lowered his weapon.

"Stand down men....she's on our side...well for now anyway." He announced to the men behind him. She walked over to the agent.

"I see you three are alive...the others?"

"Taken...but we plan to get them back...if they are still alive that is." She started to speak, but Scrape walked over and stood in between her and Frun. She could tell she was trying to control her emotions, but she could sense that she was having a difficult time of it...her eyes had a certain sheen to them that looked like tears and her breathing had become faster.

"Where is Abb? Is he coming too?"

"No, the portal became unstable...it was collapsing. After the gate closed we were thrown out. I was thrown back to the hideout, but Abb...I do not know where he is...or if he is even alive." She noticed Scrape clinched her fists by her sides, as if trying to restrain herself from lashing out at her.

"You didn't try to help him...hold onto him or something? What did you do, decide to save yourself and leave him there?" She realized her voice had risen and looked down as if collecting herself.

" You will not believe otherwise, but it happened so fast, there was nothing I could do. I lost....grinner is gone as well."

"So the Demon Knight is gone." a man with a strange accent asked her. " Well Frun...at least the mini nuke helped close the portal...you're a 'ero you are." The man patted the agent on the back. She drew her weapon once again and took a step closer to the stranger.

"A hero...no...that was no heroic act. That was stupid. And if you go for that weapon you are inching your hand towards, I promise you, you will have just breathed your last breath." it seemed that the two were caught in a staring match. She could see a bead of sweat slowly run down the side of his face.

"Well...since we just wiped up some of the blood around here, there's no need in spilling more. Who, you hungry..there's food if you are." Frun was trying his best to keep another blood bath at bay. Damn it all, he was tired and in no mood for this. She lowered the dagger.

"I am not hungry, since there doesn't seem to be any need of me at the moment, if I may look at the professor's things, I might find something that can tell us where he might be." She turned to Scrape "it's not much, but I do not know where else to start." Scrape looked at her as if she really wanted to beat her senseless, but mumbled something instead and started towards the stairs. She assumed it was meant for her to follow. As she started up the stairs she turned to look at Frun and BC.

"He's still in existence " she said softly

"Abb? I'm sure he is..at least he has to be." BC said.

"No, grinner." She heard BC gasp and one of the men let out a curse. But she paid them no mind and continued up the stairs.

Who followed Scrape to Abb's room. The minute they walked thru the door Scrape grabbed her arm. She could have easily broken the hold, but did not, instead she waited to hear her out.

"If I find out that you left Abb, I swear I will kill you myself."

"Scrape, there was nothing I could do...I want to find him as much as you do. I can't explain it all now, but believe me, I do." Scrape hesitated for a moment, then she let go. She showed her where Abb kept his things. A framed picture in a knapsack caught her eye...she was drawn to it for some reason she could not name. It was a picture of woman. There was something....a memory seemed to tease her mind. She didn't know if it was a part of grinner's memory or her own. She suddenly could see the woman in a white coat...and laughing...she was standing in a lab of some sort. She could here a man's voice, but she couldn't see his face...he spoke to the woman in a soft, loving sort of way. Another image flashed thru her mind.... the Doctor was there standing in front of her...no..not in front her...this was a memory....this must be one of grinner's memories. The Doctor looked so full of sadness..as if what he was telling him was very painful for him to say.

"It was her...she will not remember because she did not know it was him at the time, but she will also have blocked out this memory as it will be too painful for her to deal with." The image in her head became the woman once again...but at the same time she could hear the Doctor's voice..."she set the explosion..." the woman laughed once again and put down the paper she held. She turned around to face the man....."She was ordered by her mother to assassinate the two..." The man turned once again and this time who could see him clearly...it was her father...."the explosion killed both the professor's mother and her husband....Who's father...." She could now see the outside of a building...or what was left of it... engulfed in flames...debris was strewn everywhere. And then she saw herself pocketing a remote and blending into the night.

"No...no...my father...I killed...." She felt as if the air had left her lungs. She vaguely heard the glass of the frame shatter as it hit the floor.

"Who?..Who what are you playing at now? Who" Scrape waved her hand in front of her face, but she would not even blink. She had gone pale and cold. She watched as her back leaned heavily against the wall and she slid to the floor in a sitting position...not moving or blinking. Just then Frun stormed into the room looking not too happy.

"What do you mean by dropping that little bombshell in there about grinner and then..." he stopped as he seemed to realize that neither women were listening. And why was Who sitting on the floor. "What's wrong with her?"

Scrape turned to him "I don't know, she saw this picture of Abbs..."she said pointing to the broken frame on the floor..." and started saying something about her father and killing someone. She's not moving."

"Oh great, yeah, this is what we need right now for her to have some sort of mental break down." Both turned back to look at the assassin sitting on the floor and watched as tears slowly rolled down her cheek.

For a while, Scrape just stared at the woman in front of her, mixed emotions about the changing nature of her relationship with her. They had been enemies, and for all Scrape knew they still were; they had fought for the same cause, but they had never fought side by side, to Scrape a truer test if any. "I want to find him as much as you do. I can't explain it all now, but believe me, I do." What was that about, and was that jealousy down there in the pit of her stomach, what had gone on in the portal? Too many unanswered questions.

Right now she trusted Frun and BC with her life, but the assassin, that was a harder trust to build, and yet something was building between them, subtle and vague. Looking at the semi-catatonic woman, tears rolling down her face, Scrape could not help herself but feel some compassion for her.

Scrape bent down and recovered the broken frame; looking at the picture she could see the resemblance between the woman in the picture and the missing Professor. Her heart missed a beat as she thought about him, and it seemed that Who might be her only link to him right now, the only way of finding out if he survived and where he might be. 'Damn, I have to trust her, for now at least.' she thought.

"Frun, help me get her up." Not sure what she intended to do with her, but figuring being on the floor was doing her no good. Taking an arm each, Frun and Scrape lifted the assassin to her feet and moved her towards the chaise longue near the fireplace. BC, who had come upstairs shortly after Frun, grabbed the cover from the bed to place over her.

BC knelt down besides Who, and gently moved the hair from in front of her face. "What is it, what did you do?" she said quietly, reassuringly. Something in the touch on her face seemed to stir Who into life, eyes moved darting around the room, but as if she was seeing something different looking at a different scene, but for now she still said nothing.

"This is a waste of time," Frun grunted, "its getting us nowhere."

"Hang on Frun," Scrape reached for his arm then motioned back in the direction of BC and the assassin, "Look!"

As BC continued to gently stroke Who's forehead, the assassin's lips began to move, to form words, "Forgive me Abb, I killed them both."

The two agents, looked at each other, "Any ideas who she is talking about?" asked Frun.

"His mother, judging by the photo.....both?"

BC was still looking intently at Who, concentrating, "His father." she uttered, barely audibly. Who's eyes flicked round to meet BC's.

"And you know this how?" it was Frun who voice the question that had been on Scrapes mind too.

"I don't know, it just .........it just was there." then she looked confused, "but there is something more than that...." shaking her head trying to clear up the picture in her mind.

However before she could, a comotion upstairs distracted them all.

"Halt, who goes there..............Identify yourself" they heard one of the Para's shout.

Drawing weapons, Frun and Scrape rushed out of the room and headed for the staircase.

"Stop!......identify yourself...........take aim, but hold your fire lads."

Frun made the top of the stairs one step ahead of Scrape, and rushed towards the entrance to the scrying room, where the Para's had formed up and were aiming at something in the room. Her vision blocked by this wall of men, Scrape could not at first see what it was.

"Get on the ground, face down" she heard one of the para's shout.

Maneouvering her way carefully round the wall of well armed and ready to fire men, she managed to get her first look at what it was they had trapped in there.

"Stan-bot!"

The android stood in the middle of the room, a paint brush in one hand, a jar of red paint in the other and a smile of recognition on his face. His mouth was moving but he remained silent.

"You know this person?" Frun asked.

"Erm......yeah......and he's not exactly a person.......he's a............robot." Turning the robot round, Scrape lifted the back of his hairpiece up, seeing the jerry rigged modifications she had made to make the call from the island there, she was certain this was indeed the same bot. Looking closer she could see his voice control mechanisms had been completely ripped out.

"No point asking him anything, he can't talk"

"Can he do sign language?" asked one of the para's. "British or American?" replied another, bringing snorts of laughter from the room.

"Or morse code" asked another. And yet more laughter ensued.

"Charades!" snorted Mac. "Two words......a film......nope a book........first syllable...." someone at the back added, to more guffaws of laughter.

"Or just write it down!" Frun rather sensibly suggested, looking at the also still serious Scrape.

The word 'write' seemed to get Stan-bot all excited and he began to point at the wall on the other side of the room.

"Mac, give me your flashlight." ordered Frun, and with that the agent stepped into the gloom on the far side of the room. Switching on the torch, he played its light across the far wall. Painted in red were the words that Frun now read out.

"You want them.........come get them...........you'll know where."

Frun was still staring at the message, when Scrape who had been sniffing the contents of the jar in Stan-bot's hand pipped up. "That's not paint.......that's blood......and if this elixir is still working.......the smell is flashing images of the Cowpoke in my head."

"But where?"

Scrape looked at Stan-bot, "The Island?" she asked.

Stan-bot nodded.

Scrape took one more look at the jar in his hand, "That's a fair amount of blood in there Stan-bot." If their friends were still alive, they were in bigger trouble than they thought.

The darkness is, at times, overwhelming, but there is never silence. No, never silence. Always the sounds of hammering and whispers in the dark, screams in the light. I wonder if I'll ever be able to face the light again without hearing those screams in the back of my mind. I reach over to him to feel for his pulse. It's there, if only weakly. I know it won't be long before They will be coming back for more. Which one will it be this time? It seems like Ol' Humphrey should have never made it back from the first trip, but when they threw him into the room, I could hear his whimpering and mumbling about times long ago.

I have no way of knowing if it's day or night. The room spins in the encompassing darkness, and the smell... gods, the smell. I can tell the elixir has worn off, but I know that I can still sense BC. It's faint, and if I concentrate hard enough, I can still tap into her emotions, but it's like falling down a hole where there's no bottom in sight.

I feel him move, and I gasp as he suddenly grabs my wrist. "It's me! It's Kat! Please let go, you're hurting me!!" I"m shocked at the strength he has. He'd been taken 3 times already, and I know that he can't have much left. He groans... a low gutteral sound that is more animalistic than anything I've ever heard, and I feel the hairs on the back of my neck rise up.

"Drink. Water. Please." He manages to get out. I feel around for the small bowl of liquid that was left for us. I hold it up in the general area of his face, and he finally releases my wrist to guide the bowl towards his mouth. After a few moments, I hear him grunt as he brings himself to a sitting position.

"How do you feel?" A ridiculous question, but conversation -- any conversation -- is better than nothing at this point.

"It's hard to say. Like I've been drug across the mountains with my foot in the stirrup on a wild stallion. I've felt worse. I can't exactly recall just WHEN at the moment, but I'm sure I have." Despite it all, I can still hear that wry smirk in his voice. That's something, at least. "How's Ol' Humphrey holding up?" .... "He's alive, if barely. I don't think he will survive if they come for him again." I can hear him shake his head.

"Why do you think they're doing this? Why haven't they just killed us?" I realize my voice is trembling slightly.

"I can't answer that. I don't know. I imagine they're planning on using us to get to the others back at the mansion, somehow."

Before I can say anything further, a crease of light appears towards the doorway. I can taste the bile in the back of my throat. I know it's time, and I know They are coming for me this time. He knows it, too, and he reaches over and squeezes my hand. I barely him when he says, "Just relax. It won't last too long, and I'll be here when it's over."

Then They come into the room, grab me and drag me towards the light.. towards the screams.. I'm only briefly aware of being strapped into a chair. I see what looks like a needle only a vet should have access to coming towards my arm. I realize the screams I'm hearing are coming from MY throat, and I pray for the darkness.. pray for the light.. pray that, by some miracle, I'll wake up from this hellish nightmare...... And somewhere, far far away, I hear the sound of a woman laughing, and I know that sound will haunt me for the rest of my days....
