Yesterday I posted a nice Christmas card that we had received from McGuire's MWR folks. I asked everyone to stop by their website (www.305services.com) and drop them a note (at the contact link). Their hit count at their site has dropped a bit and I told them Scapers could help. :)

I just got this email from them:

The response has been enormous! You DO have a strong fan base!!!!!! What a great bunch of folks. Please extend our sincerest gratitude at every chance, will ya?
The best to you.

So I wonder...what do they consider enormous? If you haven't yet dropped them a line or sent a click their way, please do. We want to show them the power of Scapers. Forget cheese! (Sorry Grinner!) WE have the power. :lol

And say hi to Don too. He's our newest Scaper/convert. :) You can post your "hi's" to him here or mention them in email to Monty. He'll get them.

Thanks for posting this here, Twich -- I (and I'm sure others) don't always check out the front page.

Off to wish the MWR folks a Merry Christmas! :santa:

Are you saying we shouldn't send ~cheese~ to Don and Monty when we show them our power? Are you saying Monty and Don don't *like* cheese? Isn't this a violation of the Belief In Advertising Act as amended by the American Dairy Council?

Ya gotta be careful these days.

Some folks are sending Farscape e*cards. :) Monty's not a Scaper yet. He WANTS to watch...just hasn't had the time yet...Gee...what do you think would happen if we *all* worked on converting someone?

Could you perhaps, persuade him to put up a link to this site
from his? Maybe even a short paragraph about the donations?

You scratch my back...

Hi all, and thanks for all your support for the troops, it is very much appreciated.

There are many, like myself, that had never heard of Farscape but have now been "Scaped"!!! People are asking if we have any more copies of this season or that one because "I have seen season 'X' and need to see what happens next". We also have copies at some of our facilities, such as the Airmen's Firehouse (a young enlisted personell "hangout" with big screen TV's, games...). In other words, Farscape is getting wide spread play!

Scaper989: To answer your question, on Jan. 1 we are launching the 3rd version of our website. Among many cosmetic and structural changes will be the addition of a watchfarscape.com link/banner! The details of which still have to be worked out but, rest assured, it is in the works!

Now we just have to work on Monty. I'm tellin' ya guys....he's thisclose. Seriously. I figure if we work on it, we can have him assimilated pretty quickly. :borg: From what I hear, he likes Star Trek. I'm *sure* he'd love Farscape. ;)

And guys, at last count, they had received about 18-20 emails from Scapers. They think that's a lot. What do you guys think? :lol

I grew up just south of the Wisconsin border in Illinois, so I woke up and smelled the cheese every morning (when I wasn't smelling alewives or bovine effluvium). I demand cheesespeak autonomy for those who lived along the Milwaukee Road right-of-way and the Chain Of Lakes!

gurnemanz,

You are also granted the privilege of speaking purporting the powers of cheese.

 hw thinks she best stop speaking about "cheese rights" before some eagle-eyed Scaper realizes that the Twin Cities are in Minnesota. No worries, hw is a 'Sconny resident that just happens to live within a couple of miles of Minnesota. Then there is the fact that I spent about 1/2 my life over in Minnesota.

And speaking of the military project, I turned this into my Sunday School class Christmas "project" for the year, rather than exchanging names. (Don't worry, I still got the little monkeys a present. I am a humongous softie.) I figured I would get the two little nippers who are regulars in my class to give a few bucks and spare a thought for the service men and women who are away from home and don't have the luxury of just plopping in front of the DVD player and watching a movie or a tv show the way we do. We're a tiny church, but what the heck, I figured I would also post a flyer in the vestibule. Even $30 would be a nice chunk toward some DVDs.

Well, a couple more classes also turned it into their project. Long story short, tonight's my deadline for having the money in, but it's very easily going to top $200, which I thought was pretty impressive for a total of three flyers, two of which I sent home with the kids themselves. The preacher read it aloud this morning without my asking. Actually, I was a bit hesitant to ask, since it wasn't some big "feed the hungry" or "save the world" type project. I was a little stunned at how many people were very willing to donate some money. I mean, after all, DVDs aren't a necessity like food or water, or clothing, but most of the members do have at least one family member who either once served, or in the case of 1 family, is currently in the service. Contrast this to last year, when I felt like I practically had to go begging for assistance in sponsoring a little girl from an Angel Tree. (Maybe my Angel Tree announcement wasn't as stirring and moving...)

While I'm at it, here, is it still okay to send the donation through my PayPal account? And if anyone's got it handy, what's the current link for donations to the Military Project? Or should I simply mail it, along with some nice cheese? (Could get a tad runny...)

Stacie

3 entries found for enormous.

e·nor·mous P Pronunciation Key (-nôrms)
adj.

Very great in size, extent, number, or degree.
Archaic. Very wicked; heinous.

[From Latin normis, unusual, huge, monstrous : -, ex-, ex- + norma, norm; see gn- in
Indo-European Roots. Sense 2, from Middle English enormious from Latin normis.]

e·normous·ly adv.
e·normous·ness n.

Synonyms: enormous, immense, huge, gigantic, colossal, mammoth, tremendous, stupendous, gargantuan, vast
These adjectives describe what is extraordinarily large. Enormous suggests a marked excess beyond the norm in size, amount, or degree: an enormous boulder. Immense refers to boundless or immeasurable size or extent: immense pleasure. Huge especially implies greatness of size or capacity: a huge success. Gigantic refers to size likened to that of a giant: a gigantic redwood tree. Colossal suggests a hugeness that elicits awe or taxes belief: a colossal ancient temple. Mammoth is applied to something of unwieldy hugeness: “mammoth stone figures in... buckled eighteenth-century pumps, the very soles of which seem mountainously tall” (Cynthia Ozick). Tremendous suggests awe-inspiring or fearsome size: ate a tremendous meal. Stupendous implies size that astounds or defies description: “The whole thing was a stupendous, incomprehensible farce” (W. Somerset Maugham). Gargantuan especially stresses greatness of capacity, as for food or pleasure: a gargantuan appetite. Vast refers to greatness of extent, size, area, or scope: “Of creatures, how few vast as the whale” (Herman Melville).

Immense expresses somewhat indefinitely an immeasurable quantity or extent. I can't see why no one's given the obvious answer.

Enormous- a normous that's been upgraded for the digital age.

Well, I had $250 (including my own small donation) just sitting here, waiting to go to the military project, and I found the link to the Paypal donations for the military project, so I fired up my credit card and sent it in. And now, I won't have to get cash for a while, either...

Might be some latecomers who will straggle in later with a few bucks. If so, I'll send those along accordingly. So that's, oh, a couple of box sets, easy. And you want to hear something funny? Bet I'm the only Scaper among them. (We're a small, country church. We skew older, for the most part. And the students I teach are still a bit young for it. More the Spongebob Squarepants set.)

Hmm. Who knew an attractive flier could do so much?

Stacie

(Oh, and like usual, the little monkeys got me something too. Why do I waste my breath each year telling them it's really not necessary to get me anything?)

Twich
12-22-2003, 06:25 AM
Sny, that is just one of the coolest things I've heard in a long long time. :) That's awesome. It *is* amazing how quickly people are willing to give to this project. It's been one of the things that's amazed me most about this whole campaign. People aren't afraid to step up and do something like this.

There's a thread at the top of every forum. It's called "The funds and how to donate." and it has a button for all the major projects, including the military project. :)

That's your assignment. Spread the address far and wide ( www.305services.com ) and we'll see what happens. :lol

Well, I emailed the other night, and Monty's response was sitting in my email box this morning. I imagine most people did what I did initially. "Sure, I'll click, and boost their hit count, but maybe I had better not email. First, what would I say? And second, aren't they kind of busy? Perhaps I'd better not bother them..."

But what the heck, I figured a small email saying $250 worth of Farscape goodness was on its way somewhere was something to say. Possibly we can have the email server smoking by the time he gets back? (Of course, then they'll never let poor Monty go on vacation again. Ever.)

Monty loves mail. He really enjoys hearing from Scapers honestly. And SNY...yes, sharing with them the $250...that will thrill them to no end.

Seriously? No jokes. Scapers are making their days here. Busy...full of work and stress...and they're getting notes of encouragement and thanks from Scapers. And they keep thanking us for all of it. Even the emails. ;)
