The $400 million rover Spirit, designed to conduct unprecedented geologic and photographic surveys on the Martian surface, transmitted a simple hello to Earth within minutes after landing on Mars, which took place just after 11:30 p.m. ET. Congrats to the JPL. :aok:

This is so great. Congratulations to all concerned. As the scientist just said, the world is now a different place.

Frelling amazing!! Thanks for the news! I think Nova (or is it National Geographic?) is going to do some live stuff with the information that this is beeming back to the earth.

Er, I just checked, and it looks like it's on PBS:

Spirit has already sent back some amazing panoramic pictures from the surface.

Who the frell cares about Mars? The Red planet is only dust and rocks...But yet it's another step forward!I'm glad about that :)
Actually I would be more happy to hear news from the "Voyager" which should be out of our solar sistem now...

because if they find that there was life on mars, then it proves that earth isnt the only place with life. Plus this all goes toward a maned mission to mars. Your being alittle short sighted.

Maned mission to mars?
I think we'll have to wait for at least 20 years...And there wont be any profit of it.Actually the way out of our solar system is like check points...It would be really unwise to go somewhere far if our only success in space traveling is the landing on the Earth's moon.
And that about life on mars is another topic to discuss...

BEST WISHES :aok:

well screw going out of the solar system now, i think the closest solar system is another 80 lightyears atleast away, with our current tech, i think we would probably get there in a million years or something stupid.

So all we got is our solar system, the red planet aint a bad choice, and a manned mission to mars, I believe it will be possible in 5 to 10years, new ship designs that will be implemented hopefully soon should make it possible.

Anyway, there is an oppuruntity of profit on that planet, there is metal and all other sorts of stuff over there, we could always go dig it up and take it :), its not like any wild life activist will be complaining.

You wanted info on Voyager?

http://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/

As of November 13, Voyager 1 was 12.6 light hours from Earth and Voyager 2 was 10 light hours from Earth.

If we can't successfully land on our nearest neighbor, we certainly can't go beyond our solar system.

(Hmm... Maybe I should rephrase that!)

The closest solar system might be 80 or so lightyears away but we still can go there right now...by a wormhole :ewink: Heh just joking.I think we'll have to wait for at least 150 years to visit another solar system.Too bad I wont be there to see it :(
Oh and there is no possibility to get profit here on our planet. It would be too expensive to cargo any material from Mars to Earth. :aok:

GeneralBraca thanx for the link :aok:
