the only thing that bugged me about the first season was the muldock (not sure if its spelt correctly) He was such an annoying character and too much like an evil Q.
Does anyone else think that also?

Maldis? I didn't think he was like Q.
Q was kinda evil but he sorta liked people.
Maldis hated people and was Compleatly evil.

maldis was a bad actor from Australia, and we have not see him anymore thank god, because the character was a bad one. These are the only embarrassing episodes of the entire 88 episodes to date.

Whoa whoa whoa! I have to come to Maldis’s defense here – He wasn’t some “god like alien” or some omnipotent being – he’s a psychic vampire who feeds off of rage, fear and death. His whole plan was to get Crais fired up again in his pursuit of Crichton so that Crais would bring his Carrier further into the UT. Maldis planned to use the Command Carrier for his own personal use. I think he mentioned “carnage on a massive scale.” That doesn’t sound like Q – Q was a pompous ass who thought himself superior to all other “lesser species” and held humanity in great contempt. It was never personal with Maldis until Zhaan interfered – he was only hungry. He has a score to settle now – twice over. Q just became annoying.

I always thought the Anchients more of as Q than Maldis.

the question was if he bugged you, it was my opinion that he reminded me of Q as i hated that character aswell.
Dont get me wrong, I love farscape, I just did not like the storyline nor the character not the actor that played maldis.
Sorry I mentioned Q !

yeah the whole fear vampire thing was a real turnoff. cheesy buck rogers stuff.

Ok the whole "vampire" thing wasnt so cool, but maldis as a character was cool.
The exact opposite occurs in "DNA Mad Scientist"
Cool idea with absorbing positive gene traits... uncool dude who is doing it :)

I liked Q and Maldis was cool with me too. He could read Johns mind so he can use earth sayings and I liked that John had someone who got his jokes for once, in a way.

Remember when John told Scorpy that did he know he was smoking, and did he know that was bad for him?
Yeah, I thought maldis was a bad villain, but I'm prepared to believe that all sorts of beings do exist in the UTs. Why not someone that dresses like a bad Shakespearean actor and prances about like a ponce? He still wasn't as bad as Jothee. I absolutely loathed Jothee.

One of the benefits of the first Maldis ep was that if brought Crais and Cricton face to face for the first time since things began - Crais was always on top form when going completely mental!!!

I LOVE "insane John" (when he goes farbot, like in "Eat Me", when he decides to have it out with that dude that's been eating everybody). "Insane Crais" is cool. And Stark is just the draddest.

Oh I'm so glad that others have joined me in making it known that they loath Jothee. Words do no justice for the distain that I have towards him. I disliked him from day one. Rat..... mumble.... mumble....
As for Maldis. I have no ill will towards him. He was a good mid-season speed bump. He also gave a chance to really explore more of the Crais character. So with all that in mind I can excuse him being overly theatrical and over the top.

Maldis was forgettable. Jothee, I wanted to slap around and leave on a desolate planet.

I liked Maldis. That Old Black Magic is one of my favorite eps.

Now the next time I saw Maldis I wasn't that impressed.
I liked the Scorpious character in seasons 1 and 2 way better than 3 and 4.
And who is Q?
JrMissToughChick
01-08-2004, 03:01 AM
Q is ST: TNG cpt.'s arch nemisis. He is kinda an opnipotant jerk who plays mind games with the crew once and a whille. He was a geust star on all series folowing TNG.

I hate "omnipotant" characters, or characters that use "magic". To
me, that's not science fiction. Magic is the antithesis of science.
I'd rather see a Jothee-centric episode then a magic-centric
episode.
Awwwwh guys, maldis was cool, he dressed like an idoit, but all he was doing was playing with his food, for once an enemy didnt under estimate cricton, he knew that Cricton knew what was going on, and it added alot more depth stuff to crais too.
Hmm for me Jothee was an ok character, im glad hes left because now he can come back with a real purpose and same for Jool, but I liked Jool much more than Jothee.
Best character award has to go to Harvey though he is the funniest1, got any 3s?

Okay my turn...
Jothee: every show has one.
Maldis: I didn't like the actor, but I did like the char. I didn't get to see his secound appearance (one of the three eps I have not seen)
Q: Good character who actually had a character, latter on you actually start to feel for him. No in TOS there was that god like char who captured the crew, who turned outto be a child. I don't remember but I think his name was trillian. There was a ctually a book where Q and Trillian had to do stuff for some reason, and Trillian just kept driving Q insane.
Omnipotent beings: Usually a lazy wirtter convention, but it can be a good thing. They run the magic eps, that are usually god when they focus more on the chars than an adventure. Maldis did this, and most of the Q eps where character driven. They show us more of our chars and can give us hints of things to come, i.e. purposeful Freudian slips, pushing characters in a certain direction. I did like the last ep of TNG where Q says the trial never ended and you are still proving your worth. It gave a bit more meaning to the series.

Maldis: Well, I always thought of Maldis more as a predatory force than a character. The best use of Maldis, IMHO, was to showcase the other characters' reactions to his antics. Especially Crais in TOBM and D'Argo and Chiana in PIYW. TOBM turns Crais from a 1 dimensional cliche villian into a real (if also really nasty) person. In PIYW we see more of the development of the D/C ship.
Jothee: Unlike most people, I neither liked nor disliked this character. He seemed like a selfish, angry teenager which fit with the character's backstory. Chiana also has selfish, angry teenager personality traits, and the way the two of them chose to express their anger and frustration with D'Argo, while nasty, was in line with their respective characterizations.
Just one Kitty's opinion :kitty:

Okay -- too much character bashing going on. I've already put my two cents worth on Maldis, now I feel I have to say something about Jothee.
Let’s look at the facts shall we: Jothee had been on the run for who knows how many cycles, only to be sold into slavery – that alone would make anyone a little cynical. On top of that, what he said about “doing whatever he could to survive” reminds me of the time I was homeless in my early adulthood. You’d be surprised just what some folks would do to survive. He’s been through so much dren in the last 8 cycles. That could turn anyone into a jerk – especially when a parental type figure just pops back into your life and expects you to simply be their child again. We don’t like Jothee – but it’s only because you can’t relate to his situation and the hardship he’s had to endure for half his life. Jothee did what he was supposed to do – shake up the crew. He did a mighty fine job of it too.
I found him to be a beautiful character.
