I don't think a BSG series is carved in stone yet. I think the deadline is the end of January. I wouldn't mind a new BSG series, as long as the characters were interesting, and the dialogue was great, and the acting was awesome, and the network would support the show and it kept me entertained and the new Starbuck gets killed in the first episode. She was too annoying and obnoxious for me.

In "campaign strategizing" MS said that Skiffy didn't announce the fate of BSG yet.

if the series is handled well, then there can't be too much science fiction on the SciFi channel. one of our biggest gripes with Skiffy has been the lack of actual scifi shown on the channel. we can't very well bitch then, if they are putting a new scifi show into production. their comments about ratings and "space-based shows" and all that was dren used to cover a bad decision made by a guy that didn't want someone else's show on his network. it's over and done with now. if the show gets greenlit, and it doesn't suck, i'll support it because any scifi that doesn't suck is good for the future of more scifi that doesn't suck.

I thought they said, "Space based shows" but Programing sounds better doesn't it?

well, there was a quote where that phrase was used...and i really do believe they are trying to get away from what the rest of the planet considers traditional scifi.
they think it limits their programming options because they don't understand the scope of the genre. a lot of fans don't either, actually. you'll see all kinds of comments routinely about how something is "too fantasy" or "too horror" for the "scifi" channel. the problem with that exclusivity is that it limits the channel.
they exist first and foremost to make money, not make scifi fans happy. if they feel too constricted by the more traditional forms of science fiction, they won't program it. they're trying to re-brand their network which is fine except for the part about them not actually knowing what their own identity is. makes it tough to rebrand what you don't understand.

With all due respect, I couldn't disagree more. Perhaps some
people like fantasy as well as horror as well as science fiction,
but not all of us. In fact I read somewhere that someone is
trying to start up a horror channel. Would you expect to see
fantasy there? I would't expect to see a music video on the
history channel, or a cooking show on ESPN.
they exist first and foremost to make money, not make scifi fans happy
By calling themselves the sci fi channel, they're attempting to
draw in science fiction fans; I would say making scifi fans
happy is most certainly critical to them making money. If a few
execs want to get away from what the rest of the planet
considers traditional scifi then they should shop their resume
around to other networks.
Limiting? What's limiting is stating that you don't like "space
based" science fiction. THAT'S limiting. Hopefully their new
owners will straighten their eema's out.
Why is Tiriel's in danger of being deported but not Michael "kill
the latex" Jackson? A monky with a dart board could make
better programming decisions that this guy.
