It took me a while to get into 4 but the more i saw, the more i wanted to see!!! After the end of 3 i was glad that the writers clearly wanted to head in new direction, and there were plenty to go. The return to earth was handled brilliantly and the documentary ep was great. Probably my fave scene was from the end of the spider ep when aeryn and john went head to head - great writing. Plus scorpy being around made everything a little edge of the seat - what was he up to? The fact that john ended of asking for his help showed how far they had come. After the end of 3 scorpy obviously treated him as (almost) equal... The final rush to the end was superb and that ending - well what can you say, d`argos scream summed it all up - i watch other shows now and they bore then dren out of me!!!

THIS is what I've been saying since season four began to air. Season four has been greatly underrated by some fans. (Not the fans here, of course.)

It was particularly annoying to hear fans say how bad it was when it seemed clear to me that they hadn't watched it carefully. When everyone began carping about how "simple-minded" FS had become, I just knew that most of what went on in season four had to be going over everyone's head. Of course, I would then inevitably hear people tell me that they shouldn't have to re-watch these episodes in order to "get" them. However, I always thought that Farscape demanded a level of intelligence above that required for any normal show. That's one of the many things that attracted me to FS. Finally, a television show that challenges he intellect! For pete's sake, for three seasons we've had this same cast and crew give us one of the smartest shows many of us have ever seen, why would they start letting us down now? Why not give them the benefit of the doubt, and take another look?

These are some of the densest, most information packed episodes of any season. The writing is the tightest, and the acting is the sublimest. Every act, every word is informed by what has happened to these characters in the past, and so these episodes reverberate with hidden meanings. What do you suppose is going through Crichton's mind when he stares at the symbols on the wall by the pool in "What Was Once Lost Pt. 1", after D'Argo just told him that no one has heard from Aeryn. He holds his hand up to one of those symbols, and later on he holds a hand up to the sun. Then still later, he uses his hand to explain how wormholes disappear and re-appear. I don't know exactly what may be going on in his mind, but I bet at that moment by the pool he ain't just simply sad about Aeryn.

New characters not only move the story deeper into this universe but also serve to emphasize the history the main characters have together. Norante, Sikozu, and Grayza each make miscalculations about the abilities and resolve of Moya's crew, and yet each is a fascinating character, and not mere plot points.

For all the fabulously wild plot gyrations that took place in season 3, it is season 4 that has more layers and deeper drama.

I think you have got to watch season four at least twice to understand it's brilliance:)

That's true. I didn't like the first half of season four at all the first time I watched it. But then when I caught the chain reaction over Christmas Eve, I was able to enjoy the episodes a lot more. I still think they slipped a little on quality compared to season three, but there is a lot of subltey that is difficult to catch on a first viewing.
