View Full Version : It's Frelling Cold in my House!

I'd just like to rant a bit saying, it's really cold in here.
The high temp today will be 23F, but will feel like 11F with the wind chill factor added in. And we've no heat. Evidently the coal stove burnt out, and there's no charcoal left to start a new fire. My father said he'll pick some up on his way home...around 3pm. Which means, "Jacqui, don't go messing anything up, I'll take care of it later." While he sits in his nice warm office.
And, they won't turn on the electric heat because they're cheap!
I know I shouldn't complain when there are so many who live out in the cold all the time, but I just wanted to rant a bit.

With respect to your dad, I know *exactly* what *my* response would be ... FRELL THAT!!!
My advice--go out and find someplace warm to hang out until dad gets home!! Failing that, try lighting a bunch of candles in whatever room you're in, and bundle up under a couple of blankets.
Man, am I *glad* I live in South Florida ... :sun:

Hey, say hi to my GP's! They're in Fla! Lucky old bastards! :D
I am thinking of just getting in a hot bath and staying there all day! LOL Of course, then I may end up looking like Wrinkles!

Your Dad isn't worried the house will get so cold the pipes will freeze before he gets home? I like kechera420's advice go someplace warm to hang out.
Its been cold in Ohio the last few days too, and my office is always cold. I've taken to wearing long underwear, legwarmers, gloves, an extra jacket, and putting my coat over my knees. Makes me look really cute at my desk.

That's too cold. I say turn on the heat and give them a dollar to cover the cost.
Don't stay in a bath tub in a cold house all day. Either figure out a safe way to warm up your house or go someplace where it's warm.
It's cold here too today -- frelling Canadian air!!!! The high was 70 degrees last week and 36 yesterday. :P

So JL3 - are you typing with gloves on now? I say either go someplace warm, or turn on the heat and weather out the wrath of your parents. :)
It was 58 degrees in Ohio on Friday, and 6 degrees on Monday. And yeah, it's all Canada's fault. :rollin:

You lose 1/3rd of your body heat through your head, get a hat. Or go someplace warm, just don't get colder getting there!

Well, I'll put on a hat right after I get out of a hot bubble bath. Although, it's always worse getting out of the tub into cold air. Hmm..decisions, decisions...
And hey, there's always alcohol! :ewink: I can take a bath, burn some candles, watch a Farscape ep, and drink some hot chocolate w/ Kaluha. <sigh> Nothing better...except a heated house! :lol

Hey, right now in Yellowknife, it's -37*C (-35*F), and I just heard on the radio, they were talking to someone in a community that's reading -56C (-69F)!!!!! (although I'm not sure if that includes the wind chil or not).

Calgary's in the Chinnok belt of southern Alberta. Right now, it's a respectable 25F (-4C) outside. (and that's just perfect)...

Forget the hat, hat's look foolish. LAYERS is the key!
I also agree that you should just go ahead and turn up the heat
anyway. When you dad walks in, hand him a buck for the cost. He
probably won't even accept it. Especially if you can shut off one
room and just heat it. Then he can feel how cold the rest of the
house is by comparison.

Would you Canadians kindly take your cold air blast back? We don't need it here......
It is 15F right now, with wind chill of -1F. It is not supposed to be any higher than the teens until Monday. My thin southern blood cannot take this frelling weather. Hate it, hate it, hate it!
P.S. Any southern regions with fair weather to spare might consider sending some warm air our way.

You may feel warmer when you drink alcohol, but you actually lose body heat faster.
On an interesting side note ... if you've had too much to drink and feel sick, go somewhere cold (like outside in the snow with no coat on!). The cold will actually keep you from getting sick; at least, it did for me that one nightmareish New Year's Eve ... oh, and avoid Lemon Drops ... at *all*costs ... Lemon Drops BAD  ...

Here in the Upper Midwest, we had our coldest temperatures in a couple of years a few days ago. I can't remember what the Highs were for the days but I know that the lows were below zero. Now that's what I call winter!

So, I decide to get a bath. Got RA out to watch, put the TV in the bathroom, got the hot choc w/ Kaluha (sorry, didn't read kechara420's post before), run the bath, put the bubbles in, get the candles, and hop in...only to discover that since my mother is doing laundry, there isn't enough hot water to spare, and my bath is lukewarm. <sigh>

I love it when the NE USA is in the blue (temp wise, that is).
I work for a gas and oil company, so cold weather=high oil/gas price=job security! :D ;)

Every now and then I get to go to South Florida on biz, though not as much as I used to. It's great when it's miserably cold up north (as it is now), but I'd miss having actual seasons.
The only time it snows there is when a cocaine smuggler's plane blows up in mid-air.:bub:
