View Full Version : Building a DRD... HELP!

Well, like the subject says, I am getting ready to build a DRD. I feel I should clarify a few things first. This DRD will be functional, though, obviously not as functional as the ones on the show. It will basically just wander around my house avoiding things and people, and generally be like a pet.

I have found a robotic base for the DRD that has those capabilities as well as the ability to recharge itself when the battery runs low. The cool thing about the robotic base is that it is 1) expandable, 2) has removable cover(sorta like the ones on remote control nitro cars), 3) it is autonomous(spelling?). I plan on building a wireless web cam into one antennae and a light in the other. I will construct a new shell for the Robot to replace the one that comes with it.

Now here is my question to you guys. Does anyone know where I can find something akin to schematics for the Farscape DRD's?? Something like drawings with details and deminsions of the outside(shell) of the DRD's they made for the show. Since I am going through all the trouble of building a robotic, autonomous DRD, I would like it to look as acurate as possible.

If anyone is interested in more details regarding the Robotic base, or any of this, please let me know.

Thanx in advance for the info.

Jat -
I will let you (and all scapers) know if I go into business building these things. I think though, that I will wait and see how this one goes. You know how it is. Things always look great on paper, but the actuall project may be a test of will. Just ask the NASA engineers...

Oh, and thanks for the advice on posting this in the graphics thread. Somehow, that never even crossed my mind.

if you could get a hold of one of those robotic vacuums that run around the house sweeping the floors without input from a human, the circuit board would be perfect. then you could have a drd that vacuums the house for you.

I've been working on the idea of building rygel complete with throne sled. Mainly by modifying a RC hovercraft. The problem is with the weight of Rygel, I would be lucky to get 1" of lift which limits movement.

Good Luck to you, Keep us posted
