After watching "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Stopped Worrying and Loved the Bomb", I noticed that the two nuclear bombs used in Major Kong's B-52 bomber have the following writing: Nuke 1(which is seen dropped first): "Hi There!". Nuke 2 (which is never seen dropped): "Dear John".

When I saw this, I realized that the last three "Farscape" episodes had a "Dr. Strangelove" reference. The first nuke John uses in "We're So Screwed, Parts 2 & 3" has "Hi There!" written on it. It is dropped and it is shown to explode. The second bomb. seen in "Bad Timing" says "Dear John" on it. John places it on Scorpius and it never detinates....

How's that for a Kubrick reference, next to John's eye-pulling and the Nebari's conformiting toxicines from "A Clockwork Nebari"?

God, it's been a while since I last posted this. I'm surprised no one replied to this. I guess it's not important. I mean, come on, "Farscape" is often making references to Kubrick's works, amongst other things.

Never fear, CB2001, I just recently rewatched those episodes, and figured what John wrote on the bombs had to be reference to something...I'm glad you responded to your own post, otherwise I would never have known :)

Nabet- It's no problem. At the time, I thought it was a pretty big reference to not only have John write those on the bombs, but far enough for the writers to actually mimic the bombs too ("Hi There" being the one that Slim Pickins rides on in the every memoriable scene and "Dear John" never seen going off).

leeturnbull and Bandana Girl- No problem. At the time, I thought it was an interesting thing to point out.

TalynLives- Yeah, I know. Two of the three times involving Harvey in the theater of the mind ("Dr. Strangelove" first and "2001" last).

Ironically, enough, Kubrick was always trying to get a bio-pic done of Napolean, but it never got off the ground. He liked Napolean for some reason. Anyways, didn't John refer to Rygel as Napolean once?

Actually, there is one thing I am wondering... If Stanley Kubrick had lived a while longer and had watched a lot of "Farscape", what would he think of it?

If Kubrick had watched Farscape he would have been hooked ... like us.

GREAT catch on Strangelove CB ... that shows some of Farscape's references
can take a while to find ... no other show like it !!!!

Thanks. I know what you mean. To quote Harvey, and to put it in terms of "Farscape" itself, it's "mysteries unfolds slowly."

I also liked the Broken Arrow reference:

"You're insane!"
"Ain't it cool!"

Farscape has tons of references. From Aliens, to Scarface, to even small scifi films like Island of Lost Children.

Of course, my favorite is the dramatic remaking of a Red Dwarf Episode (Twice Shy)

Yes, references abound in this show that takes place so far from us. It's fun watching John through these things into intense moments, just showing off how much of a geek he is.

I think I remeber another Strangelove refernce in those episodes but I can't remeber off hand. I laughed my head off the first time I saw each bomb.

When they were all in the big conference room, I just kept hoping to hear, "Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!"

Yes, one of the many great lines. I love that movie!

"Alright, but after this you are going to have to answer to the Coca-Cola company."

Yes! I loved that! Along with, "one of our generals, well, he went a little funny in the head".

I can't remeber. Dose the DVD have the pie fight scene on it?
