I love romantic comedies. They can always make you feel better...or else, really depressed. And despite what people say, everyone secretly loves romantic comedies.

What are your faves?

Mine are:

Return to Me
Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride
Any Meg Ryan movie, but particularly Kate and Leopold, French Kiss, and the ones with Tom Hanks
both Sabrina's, but even though I love Audrey, I like the newer one better

Hmm. I can't think of any else. Your turn! :D

Sliding Doors is also a fav of mine...

eta: I think BaT's has got lots of funny moments! But that's JMO...and I also wanted to throw in The Wedding Singer :)

I love Breakfast at Tiffany's, but sometimes I consider it more of a drama.

Audrey Hepburn is my favorite actress ever! I miss her.

Yesterday, I watched 'Bringing Up Baby' with Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant. Those two are great together and the movie is timeless.

I know... I love that movie! When Meg Ryan has her eyes closed and is smelling all the things in the box he made. Or at the end when they're walking through the vineyard hand in hand. *heavy sigh*

Other classic K Hepburn and Grant: The Philadelphia Story
- practically perfect with a little James Stewart thrown in for good measure ;)

and Holiday - a lesser known but thoroughly entertaining Hepburn and Grant vehicle.

Definitely agree with When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, and Say Anything and Sliding Doors

More favs:

The American President
Benny & Joon
Emma
Grosse Point Blank
Serendipity
The Sure Thing (big Cusack fan... can you tell?)
It Could Happen To You
Keeping The Faith
Joe vs The Volcano (weird but I really dug it)
Continental Divide
Crossing Delancy
One Fine Day
Overboard
Picture Perfect
A Room With A View (more of a dramedy, really)
Splash
The Truth About Cats & Dogs
While You Were Sleeping
Moonstruck
Four Weddings and a Funeral
Look Who's Talking
Just Married
Houseboat
Sabrina (the A. Hepburn version, for sure)
The Very Thought Of You
Working Girl

And most of Julia's and Meg's vehicles.

whew..... and I'm sure there's more I can't think of at the moment. I such a sap :) I love that stuff.

I hate Julia Roberts. Just cause I find her annoying. And also for reasons I would probably get in trouble mentioning.

Add another French Kiss lover to the list! (pun intended):ewink:

I really like The Princess Bride.
My dad took my sister & I to see it at the movies when we were kids & it's still a favorite.

Originally, I was going to say that I don't like romantic comedies. I think they're usually sappy and lame. I despise any pairing of Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. But then I started reading through your lists and thought, hey, I like that movie, and ooh, that was cute too. So here's my list of tolerable romantic comedies:

Benny & Joon
The Princess Bride (one of my all-time fav movies)
The Wedding Singer
Two Weeks Notice
Overboard (that movie will always rock!)
Keeping the Faith
Fools Rush In

I'd prefer a movie where something blows up or there are racecars, but these I can handle - just not all at once. :D

For trinamic and JrMissToughChick, how about "Days of Thunder"? Technically speaking it isn't a romantic comedy, but it does have romance (Tom Cruise and Niclole Kidman in the movie that got them together) and it is pretty funny. It has the final outcome of a romantic comedy - the good guy gets the girl and despite the odds, he is successful.

Ooh, gotta love anything with Tom Cruise in it! :thud: (with the exception of Vanilla Sky) :hork: Like the racing aspect, Robert Duvall's the man, good movie all in all!

Don't know if it counts as a comedy really, but I love Bird on a Wire. I thought it was funny, and it's got romance...oh yeah, and did I mention Mel Gibson's butt? :faint: :thud:

my current list of movies I own because I rewatch them -- mostly on dvd -- which means I suppose these are my favorites. I'm including only the romances and romantic comedies.

A Room with a View
Blast from the Past
Bull Durham
Dirty Dancing
Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947)
Impromptu (Judy Davis, not widely known)
Last of the Mohicans (Daniel Day-Lewis version)
Mansfield Park
Philadelphia Story
Pride & Prejudice
Sense & Sensibility (1996)
Shakespeare in Love
Strictly Ballroom
When Harry Met Sally
While You Were Sleeping
Yanks (Richard Gere; bet you've never seen it)

i'm a top gun fan...thats the best movie tom cruise ever did, in my opinion. i mean, you can't get "dangerzone" out of your head...especially not how the singer sings it...

I'm not a big romance fan. Didn't like Top Gun, When Harry met Sally or anything with Julie Roberts in it, etc etc.

However there are some that fall in it that I liked a lot and consider them classics.

Philadelphia Story
Bringing up Baby
Holiday - Not sure if this is really a comedy
Pride & Prejudice - (Colin Firth) -
Sense & Sensibility - (Alan Rickman) - Not really a comedy
Double Wedding
I married a witch?
Kate and Leopold - (Probably because of Hugh Jackman)

I'm sure there's a few others I've forgotten. I guess if I've forgotten them they didn't make much of an impression on me.

Haven't seen it in a long time

"SaraD - Impromptu (Judy Davis, not widely known)."

I remember Julian Sands in that.
Wasn't Richard E. Grant in that also? Maybe I've got it mixed up with Warlock.

Edward Scissorhands is my fave, if it counts as (dark) romantic comedy. Apart from the beautiful lovestory and a stunning Winona Ryder, this movie is a poignant satire on lingering hypocrisies and conservative prejudices.

Does Jabberwocky count as romantic comedy? Ok, I shut up :tomato: :elol:

Another great scence!
Or when she runs into the dessert cart and is crawling around on all fours.

These are great movies!!!!! SaraD, you have great taste in movies (except Dirty Dancing- YAK) I love "A Room With A View" and "Last Of The Mohicans" (must be my Daniel Day-Lewis fetish) and "Bull Durham" is the best damn baseball movie ever. I quote that movie all the time...
"You know what that makes you ........lollygaggers". I say that to the kids all the time and they have no idea what I'm talking about, but I just laaaaaugh.
