Having read all the interest that Sikozu has generated in this forum i decided that it was about time to see whether Noranti has generated a similar amount of attention (although one reason what that may not have happened springs to mind..)

From the boxset 4.4 the extras from the earth eps are worth checking out as she gets some really good scenes... Melissa Jaffer was able to bring a geat deal of wisdom and energy come alive in that role and i hope that whatever directions the show takes in the future that she is a part!

The scene with Chiana in Bringing home the beacon was superb - you know which one i mean!!!!!

It would be good to know what people think anyhow!!!!!

I know this isn't what you are going for but I realy don't like her The BHTB scenes and earth scense I liked but as a rule I don't realy like her. Sorry, I don't think that's what you were going for.

My favorite Nuranti scene is the one in BHTB where Rygel asks her to cook for him :D

Noranti has always intrigued me. I really appreciate the writers going the non-traditional route and including an older female in the cast. That is really unusual.

Plus I like the fact that she is not one-dimensional. While I am fairly confident that her motives are (relatively) pure, I am never quite sure what they are. Which makes for a really interesting character.

I have said in another thread, that I don't think Norianti is working for Scorpious, the Scarrens, or the Peacekeepers. If anything, I think she is working for the Ancients.

Or she is working by herself, toward the greater good. And sometimes the greater good does not include happy endings for our favourite protangonists.

One of the reasons I think the character is presented as so unappealing, is because she is trying to keep the rest of Moya's crew at a distance. She doesn't want them to get close because then they might stumble into knowledge that could mess up Norianti's plans - whatever that is. And also, if they get close to her, and she gets fond of them, she might find it very difficult to make the hard decisions that are probably going to be necessary.

Ultimately, I think Norianti is woven very tightly into the fabric of this story. I think she will be a pivotal character in however the story is concluded.

(Oh, and I don't think she is a decendant of John and Aeryn from the future, or that she is in love with John. This would be a very ordinary motivation for Norianti - who is anything but commonplace...)

I agree that there is more to Noranti than what we see, and that she may be working for someone else. I think she definately has ulterior motives. But I don't know what they are. I don't think she's working for the Scorpius. I don't think that would logistically work out. I don't think she is working for the Scarrans either. I don't really see evidence that she's working for the Ancients, but that idea is more palatable to me, since I definately get the idea that her intentions towards the Moya crew are good.

I hope the miniseries gets a chance to explore her character further.

It took me a while to get to like Noranti, I think mainly because she did keep everyone at a distance and at first she seemed to be little more than comic relief. But when she started showing her darker side her character filled out more and I came to like her quirky and bizarre behavior. I think maybe one reason people don't like her so well is that there is a lot to her character but she is very good at hiding what she doesn't want others to know. She plays up the kindly grandmother part well and sometimes this makes her seem one dimensional. But then she'll do something that falls out of this character, like shooting evil looks at Aeryn or pushing John to do drugs. She's interesting to me mostly because of the mystery surrounding her. The story that she joined the Moya crew because she felt grateful for them rescuing her didn't seem quite right, and there is a lot about her that doesn't add up. I like the way she keeps people guessing about what her true objectives are and the way she has lulled everyone on Moya into thinking she's just a harmless old woman, when that doesn't seem to be true at all.
