My taste in music tends to follow my taste in TV. By that I mean I have this ability to like things that never make it big or don't last. So I thought I would share a few with you (that, and there is nothing to do at work right now.) I bet you've heard a song, maybe two, by these bands and that's it. If you enjoy rock/pop music, give them a listening to.
Dexter Freebish - just released their second album. Its excellent. They have also won the John Lennon Song Writting Contest twice now.
Stroke 9 - about to release two new albums. Bringing the total up to 7.
Splender - just released their second album
Vertical Horizons - On their third CD
Nine Days - Second CD is out.

For blues fans or guitar fans, I highly recommend Kelly Joe Phelps. You can find (and sample songs from) his CDs at Amazon.com.

Take a listen to a band that isn't together anymore, but was VERY good. TripleFastAction this band was excellent live.

The Refreshments/Peacemakers

Kidney Thieves -- 2 CDs released as far as I know. "Before I'm Dead, the first track on their second cd, Zerospace, was on the Queen of the Damned soundtrack. Great music all around.

With the recent popularity of O Brother Where Art Thou, bluegrass bands are starting to get some attention. Out of the modern bluegrass artists that I was exposed to from this movie, I liked Gillian Welch and Allison Krauss and Union Station the best.

At the Drive In is a great band that was strange and unique...if you've heard Sparta, that was formed from some of the ATDI members.

Hey, I'm feeling pretty darn cool that I actually know who some of these bands are! Woo hoo!
My brother-in-law just recently introduced me to The Replacements. I can't believe I hadn't heard of them before, as influential as they have been :D

When I was in college I saw Modest Mouse a couple of times live. They are definately worth a download to check out... try Doin' the Cockroach, or Trailer Trash. Definately better than they're given credit for.

Ours is a pretty good band. They sound a little bit like The Cure goes gothic.

Ravens'Head is a great Aussie band that should get a bigger bite of the airtime cherry. The Japanese love them so do Europe but it's just so tough to break into the US music scene.

Check out "New York City Rock n Roll". 22 of the best unsigned bands straight out of NYC. I "work" for one of the bands---Queen V. All of these bands kick serious hard rock butt!
