I just love this episode, It's one of my favorites. And it is only the second episode of Farscape! :o (In europe). Love the story, characters, Aeryn/D'argo stuff, the music....Rygel/John stuff and the fact that Zhaan failed with her drug teachings....That was the first sign that Farscape would be different. YOU DON'T ALWAYS WIN!

Anybody else feel the same way?

I just rewatched Thrown for a Loss recently and I rediscovered how much I liked it too! :)

I was actually just looking at the Zenit website today and saw that it was the episode that got you hooked Roland! Since my first episode was Won't Get Fooled Again, I saw TFAL after I was hooked, but I still really enjoy it.

I love the agrument between Aeryn and John where she punches him and he wakes up in the Prowler still arguing his point.

It's our introduction to Bekeesh, one of my favorite guest stars.

Rygel cracks me up in this ep: "I'm unloved, unwanted, unpopular, unconscious... "

I love the gauntlet, way cool special effects and when John puts it on... "I feel good, I feel REAL good!"

Actually, TFAL was the fourth ep in the series. I, ET was the original second ep, but SciFi felt it was too weak as the second ep of the series. For once they were right.

Anyway, I really like TFAL. It has some great elements. I like how they came to the realization that Aeryn was going to have to knock John out to get him into the Prowler because he woudln't go willingly. It was great.

Yeah, this episode has some great moments. Definitely one of my faves from Year 1.
Crichton blowing up the rifle gets me every time. Classic moment.

Yeah, this is a very fun ep'. We're introduced to the qwalta blade, one of my favorite sci-fi weapons, and the Tavloids (TAVLEKS!).

Ben Browder has always looked like a football player, to me, and he gets to show his chops in this one, ripping off a mile or two's sprint without missing a beat, then battling the baddies at the end of it. Yeah, the boy was in shape for this show, wasn't he?

Rygel's self-serving greed shows itself for the first time, and it won't be the last.

But, wouldn't you love to have Zhaan as your substance abuse counselor? Not that I need one, but, hell, I'd gladly go cold turkey just to see what's really under that robe! Blue or not.

Aeryn cold-cocking John is so great, the first time I saw it I almost choked on the snacks I was eating!

Amidst all the fun, though, there is a serious, and sad undercurrent to it. The Tavleks, although we don't know a great deal about their culture, are tragic figures. A race of apparent mercenaries, so deeply addicted to the gauntlet that they will rob, kill, and destroy anything or anyone, and for what? Money, for more powerful dope? What a helluva lousy life.

Bekhesh, when seen again only a little more than a cycle later, has already had to triple the dose? How long can one live like that? But, as they say, no sermons. Their choice.

I liked this episode quite well, myself. Very good, very funny, very serious... very Farscape, for the very first time.

i'm not sure, but i think Throne for a loss is the first episode i ever watched of Farscape, so it holds a special place in my heart too. I was completely drawn to the blue lady and Rygel cracked me up. I was completely lost into the wormhole after this ep.

Actually, I thought exactly the same thing. Quickly followed by "Were they/are they a (potential) Farscape sponsor?"

It's the first episode of Farscape that has the classic Farscape humor/character interaction. The episodes that came before this one were good but this is the episode that got me hooked (er, after seeing "Thanks For Sharing" that is ;)).

I love this episode too. If I had to pick a favorite scene, it would be when John is coming back after rescuing Rygel (who is still bagged up) and passes out from the drug and crushes poor Ryg. Yeah..I get a smile from just remembering it. :)

Have you noticed that the injector thigy that John tried to use to knock out aeryn had text in it and the text was "DG-4".

At first I tought that it was a injector thingy that John brougth with him, but why would an astronaut have two injector thingys with him on a test flight (one with John, one on moya)

Sounds a bit obfuscating to me.

I didn't think that the "injector thingy" was John's at all. I thought it was from Moya's stores. Am I wrong?

Just re-watched this eppy a few days ago (along with most of season one) and you're right about the tone of the show "feeling" like Farscape. But it wasn't my favorite of the early eps... I think EFG was mine. But then I always liked seeing John "save" Aeryn. ;)

How about this... I was bored one day at work and in my mind I was comparing Farscape to Stargate... to see if there were any similarities and I found an interesting one... and proof that the writers from Stargate watched Farscape...

TFAL (http://www.gateworld.net/farscape/s1/index.shtml) vs Upgrades (http://www.gateworld.net/sg1/s4/403.shtml)

I'm sure everyone knows how this ep. works out... if not it involves an armband that inject drugs into the user giving the person superpowers. This show aired on 04-09-1999. Well Upgrades aired a year and three months later (07-14-2000) later with basically the same premise, except there are three arm bands.
