View Full Version : OMG! Another "Save Our Show" Campaign

I'll apologize to anyone who is offended right now, but I just about died when I saw this posted on another board.
Proclaimation...

As some of you may know, John Edward's show got cancelled due to lack of ratings. Well...one very big reason for this is that the syndicated stations carrying it kept alternating times and channels on us, so we never knew when or where to watch. So what do we do? The answer is: whatever you can. Some fans of the show have formed a coalition of sorts to try to save the show. They have a web site up devoted to the cause, as well as an online petition to keep the show on television. One of the proponents for the push to keep Crossing Over from getting crossed out posted the following on a message board. The link to the petition is at the bottom and only takes a couple of minutes to sign online. Here is what she had to say:

"We have it on good authority that John Edward is willing to do another TV show, if the circumstances are right.

We have come to the collective conclusion that a [multi-media] campaign can be effective on many levels. Mainly, to show network executives that there is viable viewership for the show, despite what the most recent season's ratings. We'll also show support and appreciation for John Edward, and we'll be letting him know that we don't let go of him visiting our living rooms on a regular basis that easily!

What's needed right now, is your support, showing major network executives that you want John Edward back on TV!

With that in mind, we've begun to organize on several different levels.

* A new website, www.SaveJohnEdwardTV.com, will provide news, information and updates, and an opportunity for viewers world-wide to join this effort.

* An online petition to show the media and the networks the incredible support and the "will of the people" to have John back on the air. Please see the link at the end of this post and VOTE! Send the link to all your friends who may not be members of this site, so they can sign the petition too.

* We've asked for and obtained verbal commitments from journalists from news and media outlets to give the campaign a mention, and possibly do a story on the campaign.

* We've researched other similar campaigns and are learning what works and what doesn't. For example, visit www.SaveFarScape.com for a highly organized, highly funded campaign to save the SCIFI program "FarScape."

* We have a representative at today's Bridges event [John Edward seminar], handing out flyers with information on the campaign, and how to join.

* We have plans to utilize advertising in TV, radio, and print in major cities. This could be costly, and we're willing to donate our own money towards this, but we'll be asking for donations so we can get the best spots available.

* We'll be asking for volunteers to do a variety of things, such as print and post flyers around their home town, post to other newsgroups and discussion groups, or contact local media to get the word out.

Time is of the essence here, we need to act quickly, and we need be organized in one cohesive unit.

If you have any questions, please do ask. If you have additional ideas or suggestions, bring them on!

First, go SIGN THE PETITION at http://www.petitiononline.com/savejetv/petition.html

Second, send the URL to everyone you know who feels the same about bringing JE back to TV.

Third, sign up for the mailing list at www.SaveJohnEdwardTV.com!"

There are over 900 signatures on the petition already, but we need many more than that. So if you have at all appreciated the message that John Edward brings, add your name. With TV listings full of reality and talk shows where people at their worst is considered entertainment, we need the light that Crossing Over shines. As powerful and uplifting as the show is, we need it more now than ever. Don't let it get put out.

Does this sound familiar? And I find it hilarious that they are referencing THIS campaign, although it is a nice complement to everyone here that they feel the campaign is so well organized. What is also funny is that on the other board, people have been ripping on JE too.

My guess is that a lot of groups will use savefarscape.com as a model or prototype from this time forward in trying to save shows - whether we like the program they're trying to save or not!

It was successful on so many different levels! So, take it as a compliment. However, one element of this campaign is that it always had the backing of the creators and the stars, even if it was more of background support. It's always been well known that everyone from Henson and down was sending signals to keep up the work here. Other "save our show" campigns can only ber successful (IMO) if they get that "veiled" support.

However, John Edwards Show is NOT one that I feel is worth saving, so I'll be avoiding that petition!!!!!!!!!

I do wish them luck, however! Not because I like the show, but because I like to see people's hard work pay off.

While my personal opinion is that John Edward's show is utter dren, I'm not going to throw any stones and ridicule these people for trying to save their show. There are people out there who hate Farscape and think we're idiots for spending the resources we have on saving our show (just means we need to try harder to scape those people.)

Good on them for at least fighting for what they like. I personally hate the show, but if people didn't fight for what they liked, we wouldn't be here. At this point, with the way television is going, I'm about ready to root for any fan campaign to save a cancelled show, whether I like the show or not. Perhaps if enough of these arise and they are powerful enough, the suits will seriously consider better ways of gauging what an audience is watching. Or maybe it'll do nothing. But hey, never know till you try.

Pretty cool that they deemed us an example of a "highly organized, highly funded campaign." Good luck to 'em.

Surely he knew beforehand that his show was getting axed... I mean, he *is* a psychic... right?

Who would'a thought... Skiffy alienating even their crossover 'reality' audience - their 'successful' one at that!

Someone ought to suggest that they flood the Skiffy offices with letters and brassieres... Better yet, flood NBC with letters and brassieres!!

You know, even if you liked the show..and even if you thought it was real..it's boring. Even people speaking from the beyond seem to say the same things over and over..and the John Edwards people don't seem to have come up with anything new. That's why the show's slipping in ratings.

It's the same problem talk shows have, which is why they keep getting wilder and wilder. They have to up the ante somehow.

Is it mean to say, I hope that show doesn't get saved??

But I give some respect in that they're using us, but I mean we are the best right??

I like to think that the show slipped in ratings because people figured out that it was a scam. And a shameful one at that.

If there was ever a show that didn't deserve to be saved, it is 'Crossing Over.' What do they hope to do? Get a mini?

What I don't get, is why it was cancelled in the first place. The show cost nothing and pulls in an audience. What will they replace it with?

He had a show, Crossing Over with John Edwards. He purports to be able to speak to those who have "crossed over" out of this life.

Okay CB, I guess everyone here is caught up in the moment - John Edward is the host of the SciFi Channel's only out-syndicated show, 'Crossing Over with John Edward'. This guy stands up in front of a live studio audience, and claims to contact the dead relatives of random audience members.

Before an audience of a 100 or so people, he'll stand up and say "Does anyone here know a 'John'? He has something to say to you..." and of course half the audience raises their hand, and he weeds his way down to one victim with small details like 'red shoes', 'a high nasal voice' and 'he misses you very much'. And people believe he's some sort of mystic allowing them to get in contact with their dear departeds.

Really, it's sad exploitation, masquerading as entertainment, just llike all of Skiffy's other 'reality' programming. Hope this answers your question. If you are here in the US, and you have cable, tune into the SciFi Channel at around 11:30 or so on a weeknight.

Better yet, check out his page at SciFi.com: http://www.scifi.com/johnedward/
http://www.scifi.com/johnedward/aboutjohn/

He's also selling books there, and has done a number of 'Celebrity Specials (http://www.scifi.com/johnedward/celebrity/)' - apparently he'd got one with Catherine Heigl (Roswell) coming up...

although it's highly complimentary that they used savefarscape.com as a model for their own campaign, i wonder what they hope to accomplish... unlike farscape, there are a million and one other "psychics" out there that pull off the same scam everyday, just as john edwards does... there's only ONE farscape!!!!

but, good luck to 'em...

thank you sooooo much vhsiv  you have single handedly resurrected my self-esteem and enhanced my depreciation of skiffy programming. By your description of the show, it doesn't sound like much of a loss!

No problem, chri-baby - consider yourself lucky to have missed out on 'The Dream Team (http://www.scifi.com/dreamteam/)'. That was a show about 'dream analysis', that made John Edward look like the Catholic church by comparison - everything devolved into sexual overtones and 'Whooo's and 'You go, Girl!'s from the audience. It crashed and burned quickly.

You might want to refer back to my previous post, as I've added a bunch of links.

Cheers!

Thank Heavens, there is a God after all......:whip: It's about time we have less bad tv. Now if we could just get skiffy to start backtracking to the 80's and 90's maybe someone would watch it again....:smokin: :grr:

I, too, dislike "John Edwards," but hopefully enough fans will start campaigns for enough shows that the suits will get a clue!
