I almost forgot ... Australia Day to Aussies is like 4th July to Americans

Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free,
We've golden soil and wealth for toil;
Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in nature's gifts
Of beauty rich and rare;
In history's page, let every stage
Advance Australia fair.
CHORUS
In joyful strains then let us sing,
"Advance Australia Fair."
Beneath our radiant Southern Cross
We'll toil with hearts and hands
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands;
For those who've come across the seas
We've boundless plains to share,
With courage let us all combine
To Advance Australia fair.
CHORUS
In joyful strains then let us sing,
"Advance Australia Fair."
And for those who just must have our "second national anthem" ...
Waltzing Matilda
by Banjo Patterson
Once a jolly swagman camp'd by a billabong
Under the shade of a Coolibah tree
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled
You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me
Chorus
Waltzing Matilda, watzing Matilda,
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
And he sang as he watched and waited til his billy boiled
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
Down came a jumbuck to drink at the billabong
Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee
And he sang as he shoved that jumbuck in his tuckerbag
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
Chorus
Down came a squatter mounted on a thoroughbred
Down came the troopers one, two, three
Wher's that jolly jumbuck you've got in your tuckerbag?
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
Chorus
Up jumped the swagman and sprang into the billabong
You'll never take me alive said he
And his ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.
Chorus

Happy Australia Day, mates! It's snowing here in Washington DC, USA, and my husband and I have the day off from work. So, he's donning his Mambo shirt and we're watching Farscape to celebrate!
Australia, Australia, Australia! We love you! Amen! :beer: :surf: :boat: :djdisco:

Happy Australia Day!!! Woohoo!!! I love my friends from Oz, and it's somewhere I desperately need to see at some point!
Here is a link one of my friends in Oz sent me. It's a dictionary of Aussie terms, like the ones Selena posted.

Yeah, we owe them alot.
Where would Farscape be without Aussies? The script for the pilot would be probably gathering dust in drawer somewhere...

Thanks to all for the wondeful wishes.
This is the first year in many, that our local Alien group didn't have an Aussie / New Zealander 'bash' for the holiday :pace:
Must see if we can get together next week-end and have a belated one ... great Aussie food and drink, lots of fun and you can't beat the Aussie sense of humor.:aok:
