View Full Version : BestBuy.com Farscape DVD Travesty!

I was checking out the on-line listings for Farscape, just to see who had what and for how much. I'm over at BestBuy.com and I enter Farscape in the Title Search feature. I get a long list, as expected, but as I'm browsing the items I notice something that makes my blood boil. It seems the "good" people at Best Buy have categorized our favorite show in the -GASP!- "General Horror" category!!! Horror?!?!?! That can't be right! I scan through the entire listing and every title they have listed is categorized in either General Horror or, a few are in General Anime!
I know, I know. Anybody who knows Farscape knows it's a science fiction show. But what I'm afraid of is somebody who's new to the show browsing for DVDs and seeing that Farscape is (according to Best Buy) a horror show. This could prevent someone from trying it out.
So, here's what I propose. On the BestBuy.com website there is a "Contact Us" page. I've already sent them an e-mail explaining their "oversight" in this area. The automated response said I'll get a response back within 48-72 hours. Here's what I wrote:
"I just wanted to point out an error in your movie catalog. You have all of the Farscape titles listed under either General Anime or General Horror. BOTH of these categories are INCORRECT. Farscape is a Science Fiction television series and is in no way related to the anime or horror genres. I know the fans of Farscape would be very grateful if you would place these items into the correct category. Thank you for your time."
Now let's see if we can maybe flood their inboxes with something similar to get this travesty corrected! I know this isn't sending DVDs to the military or putting them in libraries, but every little bit helps. You'd be amazed how the little things really add up.
www.bestbuy.com is the link in case you don't have it. Just click on "Contact Us" at the top and follow the instructions.

Perhaps someone saw Eat Me and Revenging Angel. Gosh darn, its a weird show, aliens sucking out brains and cartoon characters running around!
Seriously, I noticed. What's up with that?

That's weird. In the actual store where I go, it's labeled Science Fiction and Farscape is right next to the Firefly boxed set---which lured me to buy it. I had seen some of the programs, but I'm reaslly enjoying them again, Plus a number have commentaries that are interesting, there are three eps that never aired and a gag reel. pricey-- but neat. I wish that show has succeeded. It sure would beat Tremors.

Sounds like someone at Best Buy is keeping a bottle in their cubicle.
I had to hunt for it in the store. It was not in Sci-fi, but with the Boxed Sets.

This could...sorta go in Campaign Strat. If they have it listed there, a large number of people will automatically discount it. That causes harm to the overall goal.
Besides that, more people will see it there and respond. I think it's a good thing to share over there and maybe at Kansas too. People need to know this.
But remember...BE POLITE!!!!!!! We have reputations to maintain!!!
Edited to add that I just posted this at Kansas. :)

As an employee of the blue and gold empire, you all have nothing to fear.
I have infiltrated their ranks, and am entrenched in their fold.
In the stores, the farscape dvd's are located in a special section saved for boxed sets of tv shows.
NOT under horror, or sci-fi. The used to be under special interest.
Everytime I pass through this section of the store, I condense the dvd's around Farscape and expand the Farscape dvd's to occupy 2 shelves of a 4 foot section of dvd's
It looks like a huge display, and, to tell the truth, they sell faster than you would believe.
I will look into the computer and see how may copies of 4.2 have sold since it's release if I can.

Actually I was talking about the Best Buy website, not the actual stores. Every store I've been in has Farscape in either Sci-fi or TV and most have 'em in both. Which is great!
And Twich, thanks for cross-posting this. Now if we could get a moderator to kick this over to Campaign Strategizing (if it hasn't already been posted there) that'd be grrrreat!
Oh, and I got a response from Todd at Best Buy.com customer service. It looked like a form letter but addressed my specific concern. They are going to have somebody research this and get back to me. I have a case # to use if I have any further comments or questions. I'll definitely keep you all posted as this continues.

Seeing as the "official letter" in no way addressed the problem of Farscape being in the wrong genre I placed a call to the Customer Care Team where a very pleasant young lady called Cindy took down the details as I explained them to her.
She even went to the site and looked at the categories and said she could see what the problem was.
After taking my name, phone number, e-mail etc and listing my comments about Farscape being sci-fi and drama but not anime and horror she was going to contact the web designers who make the additions and changes to their web site.
So I shall be keeping my fingers crossed and waiting to see if anything changes.
Perhaps a few more of us who received the 'standard' e-mail should call their 1-888 number and then option #1 and discuss the inappropiate placement of Farscape in the horror and anime genres.
