Mysterious Stranger pointed out a VERY interesting phenomenon in the discussion forum.

If you go to www.bestbuy.com and type in Farscape, it comes up described as ANIME or HORROR!!! They've classified Farscape completely wrong!!!

Now if someone were to hear about Farscape and go to bestbuy.com to check it out, they very likely could be turned off by that description. (The horror thing IRKS me and I'm sure that the Anime part is because of ADV's prominence in the Anime industry.)

You can help to make it known that this is an incorrect classification if you go to:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=cat12104&type=page

Please remember to be polite. Best Buy is a HUGE supporter of Farscape. A lot of people get their Scape there...so we DO NOT want to tick them off. But I think it's necessary for us to try to get this classification changed. It could easily turn off a lot of people. I know that if I were not aware what it was, the listing of Anime or Horror would make me go the other way.

Do they have an explicit Sci-Fi genre, or is it Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror lumped together and they just use Horror for short?

Very good question. Stargate is listed under television, Star Wars is listed as Horror (interesting) and Star Trek is horror.

So maybe that is the case and we should just try to see if we can get it moved to television? :dunno:

It looks like they have separate categories for each. (When you click on a specific item, look to the bar on the far left of the screen.)

I've sent my e-mail, very politely worded. Thanks for the heads-up, Twich!!

They DO have a Sci-fi category. Just checked it out myself.

Oh, and I did get a response from Todd at Best Buy.com customer service. It read more like a form letter but he did mention my specific concern. They are going to research this and get back to me. Not sure what "research" means, but I've got a case number to use if I don't hear anything anytime soon.

Thanks for doing this guys. It's a little thing I know, but like they say, they're all little things.

Oh and thanks Twich for posting this here.

It's been this way for along time, even some Star Trek titles are stuck there. I doubt it really makes that much difference, I mean, if someone is looking for Farscape, you search "farscape" not "Sci-Fi". The only issue I see is the few casual browsers they get who are just category hopping. Either way, if it makes ya'll happy, maybe they will fix it. I'm certainly not gonna get my boxers in a bunch over it.

The point is that we're trying to get every eyeball we can on Farscape. If there's something out there that might turn away even one or two, that's important to me. After all...how many people here have converted one or two people who have gone on to convert people of their own? I have.

So I figure even the "minor" things that might turn people away are enough to work to try and change.

I spoke to someone in Customer Care today after receiving a 'form' letter. The lady was very helpful and said she would pass on my concerns to their web designers who are also responsible for making corrections to content. :D We shall see what transpires.
I did mention to her that they may be missing sales because people could be put off by the Anime and horror classifications. That got her attention.

Sometimes it's the little things that make the biggest differences.

At my local Best-Buy, Farscape is under Television :D

At my local one, it's under television too. I think the only problem is in the listing at bestbuy.com.

Yes, at the stores everything is hunky-dory. I go there every other week or so, and I always check out the Farscape row. They sell very well here, just outside of Detroit. In fact, I've even reorganized the shelf for them a couple times. :D They pay a company to merchandise the DVD aisles now, and FS always looks good.

This reminded me that I meant to report a few months ago that they had moved the farscape DVD's to a higher shelf, so now they are at adult eye-level, instead of knee-level. Very nice.

That means they are selling well enough to be put in a "prime" location. :D That is a good thing!!!

Yes, they do sell well. They sell S1 boxes very regularly.

Well out of curiosity I went over to the Suncoast site. 4.2 is number 25 on their top sellers list but has no genre catagory. None of the Farscape DVDs do. Which means if someone is looking by genre they will not see Farscape any where.

Well I just called Suncoast's web people @800 538-3465. First I got well our website isn't set up like that (by genre). I pointed out that it does have genre catagories but when I search for Farscape it doesn't have a genre. I was informed that their website is still being worked on.

Sounds like wish wash to me.

I sent in feedback. The catagories do make a difference if a new, curious buyer wants to add on some Farscape. Retailers are big on add-on sales.

They reserve the Sci-Fi category for movies... so TV would be the correct classification.
