Hey all, it's time to start beating the drum for the Library Project again. In addition to all the individual efforts (which to paraphrase Red, Rock like a Rocking thing), the Library Project has made three major purchases from ADV. The last one was particularly satisfying.
- The Dallas and Fort Worth Libraries were so very appreciative. The Dallas main library actually tracked me down to confirm that it was a gift, as the gal I originally talked to had been transferred, and her replacement couldn't believe that someone would give them a gift like that. They really, really wanted to keep it. Apparently they don't get very many gifts like this.
- The DC libraries don't normally carry DVDs, but we found some branches that were willing to make exceptions for us. The librarian at the Capitol View branch is first in line to check them out.
- In Boston we were able to supplement what the Boston Scapers had already accomplished, and due to their efforts we were able to place Farscape in affluent areas like Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard.
- In addition to all this we were able to fill 8 requests for Farscape sent to us by librarians, one to a library, which supplies DVDs to the entire state of South Dakota.
We have done so much. YOU have done so much. Each of these donations means dozens, if not hundreds of new eyeballs for Farscape. The Twin Cities Scapers donated three sets of 1.1 - 1.7 last fall. One of the TCScapers keeps up his motivation by keeping an eye one the number of holds on the DVDs. Apparently they are never on the shelf due to being perpetually reserved. Every Single One of these DVDs has at least two holds on them Right Now. You do the math. 21 DVDs with a 2-week check out limit over 5 months. That means that Farscape has been checked out roughly 210 times. 210 instances of new Scapers or re-energize existing Scapers. And that's just one Library System. This is happening at over 100 libraries across the US (and Germany, and Australia and very soon now, the UK). DVDs donated to Waco, TX have been seen in Chicago thanks to the inter-library loan service. The ripples are spreading far and wide, and nobody know where they will end, or if they will end.
Now it's time for the next step. Detroit, Atlanta and Houston. The Detroit Scapers are already researching the best possible distribution for these DVDs. If any Atlanta or Houston area Scapers would also like to make some recommendations, I'm all ears. Obviously the faster we get the DVDs to libraries, the quicker we can get them on the shelves and available to potential Scapers. Unfortunately this last purchase and Citadel project (In which he Library and the Military Project gave two Farscape Boxed Sets to 4000 college students with cabin fever),has pretty much wiped out the Library fund. I don't have the exact numbers, but I think it's at about $35. The library project needs your help, and there are many, many ways to go about it.
* Obviously you can donate directly to the library fund here (https://www.paypal.com/xclick/business=jul%40watchfarscape.com&item_name=Save+Farscape.com+Library+Project&tax=0¤cy_code=USD). Once the fund reaches $1000 we will make our next purchase.
* Feeling international? The UK Scapers have started their own version of the library project and are taking donations here (https://www.paypal.com/xclick/business=liggo_t%40yahoo.co.uk&item_name=UK%3Alibrary+project&no_note=1&tax=0¤cy_code=GBP)
* Scaper University (http://www.cafeshops.com/scaperu) will be donating half of all profits to the library projects.
* Can't or don't want to do paypal? Buy a Farscape DVD and donate it to your local library. Even a single copy of Premier/I-ET in a rural area might hook a future Neilson box family.
* Finally, I need Scapers willing to put in some legwork, and help publicize the project to librarians. I'm going to start a separate thread to start brainstorming the best way to go about doing this.
Finally, once again, Thank You. We keep saying it, but it doesn't get any less true with time. This project would be nowhere without all of you. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the fund, who has donated materials, who have talked about Farscape with their librarians, and those who have filled out request forms and placed holds on existing DVDs.
