View Full Version : Isn't Farscape Punny?

Has it ever been remarked on or noticed that Farscape seems to be teeming with puns?

I mean, "John Quioxte," "Bone to Be Wild," "Home on the Remains," and my personal favorite, "A Clockwork Nebari?"

Not complaining, just thought it interesting that they rely on a lot of puns for episode titles; though, it seems to work, because the titles seem to reflect Crichton's struggle to maintain his human connection: taking references from Earth, and intertwining them with the alien world he's in. You know? Which is exactly what they do with their titles (ie, "Maltese Crichton").

Now that I talk about it, it makes perfect sense. Thanks!

Throne for a Loss
My Three Crichtons ('though the allusion eludes me)
Revenging Angel
Suns and Lovers
I-Yensch, You-Yensch
Natural Election
I Shrink, Therefore I Am
A Prefect Murder
Bringing Home the Beacon

I also love the cultural references. To me, recognizing the source of a Crichtonism is as rewarding as getting a "question" right while playing along on Jeopardy.

Last Telecast: August 24, 1972 on CBS.

Number of Episodes: 380 (x half-hours).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"My Three Sons" is the story of a Mid-West Aeronautical Engineer who watches his family grow up. This seemingly innocuous and simple, but effective sitcom, was a huge hit and a cornerstone of television's 'family programming' era in the 1960s.
Second next to "The Adventures Of Ozzie & Harriet" as television's longest running family sitcom, "My Three Sons" was created by former "Leave It To Beaver" alumnus George Tibbles (1913-87). Executive Producer Don Fedderson (1913-94) campaigned the series as a probable vehicle for movie veteran Fred MacMurray (1908-91), who was reluctant to star in it at all.

I don't think it's from the movie. I actually just put the movie's title there because that's the first thing that came to mind. :dunno:
But I do love the movie.

I believe the phrase it plays on is "hot to trot." I have no idea what that means, but I think that's it.

I know "A Clockwork Nebari" is from "A Clockwork Orange" I'm just not sure how "Nebari" fits in there.

The Nebari were prominent in the episode. Wasn't the eyeball scene part of A Clockwork Orange?

Thought so. I've never seen the movie, I just seem to recall seeing that scene somewhere...perhaps on the AFI 100 best something-or-other.

The reason it's called "A Clockwork Nebari," is that in "A Clockwork Orange," the main character, Alex de Large, was a gangster youth who was caught and brainwashed into being a sublime, complacent member of society.

So, knowing about what the Nebari do to their own kind, and how Chiana is very much like Alex (but without the malicious intent), you can see why the title is based off of "A Clockwork Orange."

In a side note, I still find that movie very difficult to get through. I love all things Kubrick and Lynch, but for some reason that movie really tries my visual patience.
