So I use the farscape font for my site on the right (see site link below). The question is: disregarding the type of font, why is that when I look at my site here at home, the font is really small, and when I look at my site at work, the font is REALLY BIG! They screens are different (15" and 17') but I have the res set the same 600x800.

What can I do to even this out, fix it, whatever?! Any help or direction to a tutorial would help, thanks!

are you using different browsers at work and at home?

nope. just the two different size screens, but at work, the words on the left are big, they take up two lines!

There is an option in your browser, whatever you are using to change the default size of the fonts on display. Check that and change as necessary. It's usually in the "View" menu as the "Text Zoom" option. This is most likely what's causing the difference.

Both places are checked Medium. And I just REchecked my screen size, 800x600. Hmmmm.... it drives me nuts that people might be loading my page and see this crazy-assed size font and wonder what I am doing, lol. I am going to d/l the Farscape font to this puter and see what that does. Then I am going to load the Gigi font here tomorrow...

Can I make the requested font one size and the default font another?

It's the Farscape font I use. It's too small! I loaded here at work, and it halved the size of my words on the page. I was working in Photo Shop last night to just make a "banner" I can paste to the top of the boards; that way the size will never change. Sound like a good idea? Or does anyone have a FS font that works well?

Are you using the same character set in both browsers as well (character coding or character set, it'll have options like Western ISO 88591, Cyrillic, English, etc)? What browser are you using? Other than the screen size is there any other differences between the computers? Are they the same version of the browser or different versions?

PS from my iMac, Netscape 7 and IE 5.1, the site looks pretty much the same with the same font sizes, so not everyone is having this problem.

It's text ... using a wonky font like that is a no no for a couple reasons:

1) The Farscape font does not come standard on people's computer systems. We are seeing it because we are crazy scapers and we have that font ;) Other people might not see it because they don't have that font installed on their system. They will see some yucky default font like Times or Courier or something totally frelled instead of the nice Farscape font.

2) The size change thing. The font may show up as different sizes on different systems.

THE SOLUTION:

You have to create images. Just use a program like Picture It or something like that if you don't have Photoshop ... type out your text and create gifs or jpgs of them. This includes all your navigation and your header text where you used that font. This way, the writing will show up the same for everyone :)

Hope that helps!

Well, it took ALL day, and doing things over and over etc ad nauseum... lol

I made jpgs of all six banners and about 10 buttons. It is DONE! So, if you will all do me the biggest favor, since you saw the site the other day in all it's "glory" for lack of a better term, and tell me what you think. You should be able to see the Farscape and Gigi fonts now, permanently!

Thanks for the help and the ideas.
