I'm supposed to be reading it, but I just can't get through it. I think the time period is fascinating, but the novel is just plain dull.

It's been on my list to read for sometime, but I've never gotten around to it.
The movie version was very good and it has a strong message regarding culture clash and those who get caught up in the midst of it.
I'm not one to advocate watching a movie before reading a book, but in this case the movie might point out the themes that Forster was taking on a little more clearly. Then you could go back to the book and find it less boring.
My guess is that its taking some time for Forster to set up the scenario that leads to the climax and conclusion to the book. The movie plays that way. It's not until about halfway through the movie that things take a sharp turn and the tragedy unfolds.
