the network here at school has gone nutso and it wouldn't work last night! and i couldnt post anything from my laptop in my room!! and here i kept thinking it was a problem with my hub in my room but today i came to the computer lab and tried using the computers but everyone was having problems too!! so YAY it isnt just me thats suffering!!
but then they fixed it a little bit and it seems as if the network here in the lab is better, however, it remains to be seen whether my room is okay now...
i have been deprived of my internet for far too long! and its true what they say... "you don't know what you have until it's gone"... so if i don't show up for a little bit, it's cause my college network got something funky and decided to go AWOL.

Speaking as ye olde IT person on a college campus (not the network guy, thank heavens, but I do know him personally...) network crap happens, but geez, they should at least keep you posted on the website! (Funny how something most of us didn't even have a decade or so ago can now make people hyperventilate when it goes away...) "But... but... I can't get at my eeeeeeeeee-mailllllll! Or the net. I'll die!"
Network problems always remind me of one of the faculty. Whenever anything went what he deemed wrong with his email or network account, he would call the office and say something to the effect of , "Would you guys flip that big switch to make my account work again?" Like we got our jollies by going and turning his big switch off and snickering until he called.
Later, as a joke, one of the techs took a picture down in one of the building basements, with her hand on this humongous power switch, a really devious look on her face, and the faculty member's name on a sign beside it. We've been mightily tempted to show it to him.
I especially hate network problems that aren't our fault. We once spent the better part of two days down with no off-campus access due to a BellSouth trunk line biting the dust. You would have thought we had put the students on bread, stagnant water and mush for a week, the way some of them bellyached.
