Neither. Humans all lie for various reasons. Some men lie more than some women, and some women lie more than some men.
Although, I've noticed that most men I know don't trust women, and most women I know trust men too much (not saying all the men shouldn't be trusted, just that these women don't take the time to determine who should be trusted.)

Speaking only for myself, I can't lie worth a damn... when I'm in a tight spot it's written all over my face. :dunno:

Stars, I am in the same situation as you are in. I cannot lie to my sister because I usually end up smiling when I am telling the lie and then my lie is ruined. At least I can tell when hw is telling a fib because she starts to act all serious.

JrMissToughChick, I started a thread just like this one a while back. I say women are more truthful. Men lie all the time. It's just their nature, I guess.
My opinions, as usual, were very unpopular here.

I think that on average, each gender probably lies about the same amount, but for different reasons.

Interesting but let's define lying... In my experience I think that men often lie boldly, that is, an entire falsehood, something that doesn't exist. Women on the other hand seem to lie by ommission more, to manipulate the data if you will. 'Course these are just generalities, humans lie for a lot of reasons, many of them totally crap...but it's a bit of our nature.
There is also the difference between 'lying to get what you want' and 'lying to avoid punishment'...lying to avoid punishment is understandable to everyone even if it's a bad trait. We have all done that since childhood...'I didn't break the cookie jar, the nobodies did'
Lying to get what you want, is really different, because the distrust is all encompassing. You NEVER know when someone is telling the truth, or someone is manipulating.
I think in our society the question of the good lie versus the bad lie is decided purely based WHO BENEFITS. If you are trying to protect someones elses feelings, I think people are less angry about that, even though that is a question of degree and respect. Sort of like telling a child 'the dog ran away' rather than 'the dog ran in the street and got hit by a car, and we had to put it down.' Eventually the person is strong enough to handle truth unvarnished...
On the other claw if you benefit, we assume that's automatically bad, and IMHO rightly so... but we fall to splitting hairs when the question is what you DIDN'T say and how that benefits you...
In the long run it's a lot about how you were raised, and how strong you are. And that's without looking at differences of opinion that are caused by different points of view seeing the same thing. Truth is a 3-edged sword, my truth, your truth and The Truth...

I cannot lie if it is important. So if I steal from a co-workers purse, I can't lie because that is important. But I've been know to tell seurity (with a very straight face) that my name is Tiffany when I know full well it isn't. This wasn't important because I knew the security guard was not looking for me.
I guess the more I think about lying, the less I am able to do it.

Men lie more. Women tell bigger lies.
