I don't visit boards or chat rooms - with the exception of this place (and maybe a quick trip to Kansas or one of the other Farscape places). I never have up until Frell Me Dead.

I just took a quick trip to the Star Trek board, because I wanted to get fans interested in a "Piece of the Action" prequel. Goddess knows they need some new story ideas over in Enterprise land. I made my post and wandered around the Enterprise board a bit.

As my subject line says, ICK!!!!! Lots of trolls and insults slinging back and forth, people who are so rigid that any variation from cannon is unacceptable, people who want it to turn into soft core porn and seem to focus on T'Pol's backside, people who seem barely literate with no intention of changing that. I did read an occasional reasoned post, but most of the stuff made my eyes hurt.

I had to come over here before I suffocated. I like Star Trek, and I like Enterprise, although I wish it was a lot more plot driven with tight scripts. I won't go back to that board, or at least less than once a blue moon.

The reason for this long rambling post, is that I just want to thank EVERYBODY, and the moderators, for making this place what it is, friendly, intelligent, thought provoking without being rude, and 98% of the time a welcome and positive place to visit. It boggles the mind that close to SIX THOUSAND people can be so well behaved, in light of all the crap out in the real and internet world. So, everyone, give yourselves a pat on the back! You all are wonderful and I love you! As John says, "I love hangin' with you man!"

I know what you mean. I was at another site that is suppose to help people, but aside from the American bashing (this was at the start of the Iraqui war), it was like a wolfpack attack anytime someone had a different opinion or lifestyle. It was very clichish and newbies were barely made to feel welcome.

We are pretty lucky here.

Trekies have unfortunately denegrated into some kind of mutation of their own stereotype. Sad really.

Any trekies are, of course, excluded from my sweeping generalization.

Sadly, I think many online fangroups differ completely from their offline counterparts. I will no longer go to online Trek forums, but will still discuss Trek with friends or at Sci-Fi conventions. I was excited once because I had a beer with Garret Wong (Harry Kim) at a bar in Los Angelos, and went online to brag (OK bragging online is generally a bad idea) EVERY SINGLE POSTER called me a liar. Same thing when I told them I won the costume contest for my Seven of Nine costume (Yes, my bra was heavily padded - and I guess I did lie a little. It was really second place.) I decided that they are jealous that I actually have the guts to leave my house. I was turned off to online groups after that. I HATE bring called a liar. However, this group is awsome. Nice people.

OK - I will not call you a liar, but I AM jealous! Yeah; I guess you probobly are lying - Damn it!

Funny thing about the whole costume contest thing. This really angry woman accused me of "using my figure to win." I was so flumuxed by her accusation that I said,"Well I couldn't leave it at home." Mean people suck.

Okay, barring the few trekkies I actually know, some of them scare me, same with anime fans, thankfully I've yet to meet any scapers that make me feel that uneasy because some of the fans out there....YEESH, gotta wonder what some of them are on
