I half-made a 3d model of talyn's bridge a while ago, while I dont have the renders i did then to hand any more, and I dont really have the time to render out new ones, I do have an image of the layout for talyn's comms console that might be of use to you, I consider it pretty accurate, spent a lot of time eyeing up the actual one to get it accurate :p

Well in response to your PM, i dug it out.
Heres what I made, dont think im going to continue it any time soon - I just have way too many things on the go at once to continue it right now.

they appear to have different centers...but that may be because on is from bridge and the otherone is from the airlock...or was it somewhere else?

You would think they would sell the diagrams of the ships they used for their set design. Maybe they're waiting for liscensing issues to disolve when skiffy's rights expire.

I have found a few good screencaps at the site in my banner for music videos. They also have great screencaps. I was thinking about you and your idea which sounds cool and although I do have some interest in helping you out I don't have a lot of spare time.
Go to http://www.farscapefantasy.com/ and lookup Episode Everything. You will find some good screencaps from Season 3 Image Gallery "Into the Lion's Den" page 3 image# 146 and page 4 image#'s 154, 163,and 164. There are lots of good captures on this site and i just ran across these while looking for prowler captures.
Hope that helps. If you run across any Prowler captures from other sites I would be interested in their location. If I find anymore Talyn ones from other sites I will post here.

i ggot screencaps i just need help from people to develop them into blueprints for my project...building a full scale replica in my basement...and yes its big enough...old 5 car garage when we only have 2 cars and dont even pull them in cause its right next to the bedroom.

Holy hesmana you are going to construct this in your garage?
Wow thats a pretty big project. I was at the most just going to be putting images and diagrams on my website.
You will definately need an architect or at least a drafting student to help with this. The ceiling is supported by I think 6 beams which slope downwards in the middle like a huge 6 legged insect that unless the large red circular thing in the center is extremely light would be dangerous to be under.
Good luck on this it would be awesome if you can pull it off!
scarranbionoid
02-24-2004, 06:47 PM
the central figure is mad of foam or even wood in the show and i will prob use metal or resin molds.

The ceiling looks like the same texture, I think the strip of black on the ceiling runs down the wall.
scarranbionoid
02-26-2004, 01:57 PM
the black texture thing isnt really a strip....it runs all the way to the central dome that the radial ribs connect to...i also just noticed that the front consoles come out of a big rectagular hole in the ground...one hole for each

How are you going to do the floor?
scarranbionoid

im just gonna use some creative paint/stain for the concrete floor of my garage where the replica is being built
Anubis
03-03-2004, 07:12 PM
It would be cool to have the lighted windows in the floor, but you'd have to build the floor over the concrete one.

what lighted windows?

Sounds awesome:D Have you tried contacting The henson company or whoever made the set and said you were making a full scale rep in your basement. Maybe they could help you out with some things (blueprints, set specs).

Here's a pic of the wall across from the one you asked for, and assuming talyn is symetrical, the wall should be very similar if not the same on the other side. To me they look the same, what do you think (it has the same lights with chrome covers)?

I did some research on movie set design to maybe find out whats used to make sets/props/whatever basically. Apparently they use polyurethane-based products. I found a site called http://www.sprayfoam.com, and found a little thing about set design with polyurethane:
Theater/Movie Set Design
Polyurethanes vast versatility lends themselves to on-site or studio production of needed settings. The savings can be considerable when compared to the cost involved to shoot the actual setting. Polyurethanes can be formulated to provide physical properties for structural applications such as facades to lightweight boulders to the replication of tree bark, to exacting duplications of extinct animals are possible with Polyurethanes.
Also noteworthy is Polyurethanes have excellent weatherability and superior abrasion and impact resistance.
I bet it's pretty lightweight too. What do you think you'll use for most of the structure?
scarranbionoid
03-05-2004, 12:54 PM
most of it would probably be best in polyeurythane. ill leave what i already made in metal i.e. the two front panels and the door. ill have to experiment with getting the texture matched. what about flamability?
Anubis
03-05-2004, 01:12 PM
and the fumes, I also understand that it is very flammable. I think foam is the way to go, maybe just not polyurethanes. Maybe you could use craft foam. Find a place where you could get some large thick pieces or get some large sheets of it and glue 'em together then start cutting them into shape. What about paints, do u airbrush?
scarranbionoid
03-05-2004, 01:14 PM
i havent done any of it in anything but metal....ive been using brass, bronze, copper mixes and silver/gold paint techniques

03-06-2004, 06:22 PM
its a tricky deal trying to figure out the layout of the side walls...can anyone help me with a drawing or such? all i know is that starting at the door its bent in twords the first rib with 2 of the white light "plates", then bends away with one "plate" then bends perpendicular to the door wall with 2 or 3 "plates" then stops at the rib on the side of the front console....any help? please?
Anubis
03-07-2004, 12:58 PM
I would have to take a look at the eps and screencaps first, but maybe I'll try to get some sort of layout going, we'll see. If I do make one, it won't be super technical or anything, just a general idea of the layout.
scarranbionoid
03-07-2004, 03:14 PM
i made one already and posted it but after watching "bone to be wild", "family ties", "green Eyed Monster", "Relativity" "meltdown" i noticed that the side walls were different then i first thought. u could use the drawing i posted earlyier to work from

INeedMoreLight
03-11-2004, 11:00 PM
Looks good to me and from flipping back and forth between your screen caps and the floorplan it looks fairly accurate.
I don't know if your floorplan is going for exact match of Talyn's bridge or the schematic for your garage as the workplans. These are two different things. If its an accurate floorplan then I think this needs work in the area of scale as the walls look too far from the floor lights.
This looks more like a horizontal cross-section through the narrow parts of the lights you have circled in red with the floor superimposed on it as I see it. This bridge (and this is just my very rough view of it) is like the shape of a giant egg in that it is oval in shape and tapers to the bottom and the top as well as the front to the back.
Please don't take offense I think you did a grand job of it so far and I just sit back and critique, but this is my feeling. Perhaps its just because a flat 2D representation of a 3D spherical object does not render well.
scarranbionoid
03-11-2004, 11:09 PM
no appreciate critisim...i just wanna get it as acurate as possible....like u said its hard to represent a 3d space on a 2d paper...the walls were placed that far cause the ribs i drew were just where they come out of the ground but stretch farther out up from the ground till the reach the ceiling farther back.......if i could get more screencaps from diff angles i could try more...the screen caps i find have like 10-20 seconds between them while the camera pans across the bridge in 10 seconds and u only get one pic.....
scarranbionoid
03-12-2004, 01:53 PM
the wall lights are rectangular so the lights are uniform width all the way up fron top to bottom and the walls are that far from the lights cause the bases of the radial ribs do not got all the way to the walls cause the upper portion of the ribs bend back away from the central disc and then go up to the ceiling and the walls are right behind the ribs with no room to walk around the back of the ribs...what i do notice is that the door wall may be slightl farther from the center then i depicted.
INeedMoreLight
03-12-2004, 02:14 PM
I am just looking at your posted pictures and the one just above your corrected floorplan on paper has the two red ovals circling the lights.
The lower Oval (Larger one) makes it look to me like the wall is farther away from the front of the light panel. unless what you are circling is actually not the light panel you are depicting in the floorplan. Whatever that is in the larger oval is wider and tapers as it goes up the wall towards the ceiling. Perhaps this is one of the Ribs.
I get a bit confused with these larger ships which is why I picked the Prowler to concentrate on... :) ... no ribs to it, no winding corridors, no different tiers! :D Just 2 wings, 2 cannons, 6 engines a cockpit, landing gear and fuselage.
scarranbionoid
03-12-2004, 04:16 PM
yeah the wall bends inward toward the center of the room. with the ligts on the walls being vertical with the lower part bent in at a 45 degree angle...no the ribs i talk about are the 6 consoles in a radial pattern in the center of the bridge with red versions of moyas "ribs" that line moyas corridors and wierdly hold up the command ceiling.

what can i do to copy the sounds talyn makes to get copies of the tones and some program to semi randomly play a tune?
INeedMoreLight
03-17-2004, 03:47 PM
I see 2 options. One uses an MP3 player the other uses a cheap portable CD player, but either one must have a Shuffle or Random function AND a loop function.
MP3 idea:
Purchase a small memory MP3 Player say 68MB size which should be relatively cheap. Then rip the sounds he makes from the DVD's and creating "songs" from single or groups of his "beeps". When you have remixed perhaps 25 - 30 sounds and made sure the "dead air" is minimized in each "song" you upload the 25-30 string of songs into the player and attach that to your stereo system/amp whatever the speakers are setup to there and hit random and loop and it should work. The only drawback I see here is the power.
CD Player idea:
Burn the 25-30 sounds onto a CD and hitting random and loop on the player.
As for getting the sounds themselves if your DVD Player is a DVD Rom on your pc it should be no problem getting the audio, just time consuming. If your DVD player is separate, just hook up a tape recorder (remember what those were? I have a minidisk recorder now) to the amp/stereo or just use the built in mic to pick up the sounds then input them into your PC using the mic in jack of the audio card and using a MP3 converter (musicmatch, winamp...etc) create the MP3s.

INeedMoreLight
03-17-2004, 10:41 PM
Ok how about the audio out from the VCR? Depending on the quality of the original signal you should get fairly decent signal OUT from that to your minirecorder. You will have to buy a plug that combines the RCA connectors into one and has a mini jack for the minirecorder.
Or even buy a combination regular small microphone jack and the other end 2 RCA-type cords to take the audio out and input directly into your PC?

Since you seem to be putting a whole hearted effort into this rather than using random beeps and sounds why not sit down, watch a few of the eps and get a few whole strings of the replies Talyn makes rather than isolated ones. This will make it better and more "believable." Then collect them as i suggested once you have many and burn them on a CD as an audio CD and use a cheap CD player with a random function?
I know the soundbites are usually only say 2 or 3 seconds at the most but its better than nothing.
