I've been following this case with a morbid fascination. What's YOUR thought(s)?

I can't stand the woman so I think she's guilty. She just tries to hard to seem perfect. I do know this whole line of thought is not logical though. I voted she'll go away for a while and teach her cell buddies to cook.

I don't like her much, but I think she'll probably get off fairly easy since she is well known and the case is open to the public.

Yep all her groupies will be hanging out singing her praises.

I don't care for Martha or her show. I've heard she can be a real bitch to work for. I also think she's probably guilty. But I don't think it's fair that of all the Wall Street scandles in the last couple of years, she's the one being publically humiliated and prosocuted.

Well, if they put Miss Martha behind bars, then I'm sure she will go down.

She should be in jail. Everyone and God knows she did it. Celebrities get away with everything. It's disgusting.

Martha going down? Is she involved in a Paris Hilton style sex film?

I can't stand the woman so I think she's guilty.

I'd say she's guilty, too. But that'd be based on the evidence presented, not whether I liked her or not.

I hate Marfa and i want her to die.

Yes, I did.

Tiriel (I think) posted a copy of the whole pic on Kansas a while back. It's an outake from 'Bringing Home The Beacon". It was also for sale at the Burbank Con.

Tiriel and JenaJules were great and got an autographed (by David Franklin) copy for me! I think he uses the photo as one of the ones he autographs. I should have given them more $$ and gotten Gigi's auto too!

I spelled exonerated wrong - it's NOT a good thing!

I wouldn't mind seeing her incarcerated, so long as they don't kill her, not that I have any regard for her life I just have this nagging feeling that if we kill her she'll come back from the dead seeking extremely tidy revenge against those who killed her and anyone else in the immediate vicinity

I think she's going to be found guilty- now if they would do something about the really big corporate criminals, like the people at Enron who ruined peoples retirement funds, we'd be getting somewhere......

That's the trouble I have with this case. Although I think that Stewart and Bacanovic are guilty, they're really a very small catch compared to what goes on out their in the corporate day to day world.

However, Stewart's fame and her "rumoured" bad temper and rudeness make her the perfect person that people would like to see take a fall. There are far more corporate big wigs out there who are doing the very same thing she did but on a whole different level.

We have a family friend who lives on Mt. Desert Island, Maine where Martha has a home. This friend's daughter-in-law has provided a service to Miss Martha and her guests (not an x-rated service for all you with minds in the gutter:D) at times, and what you hear about her temper and condescending manner appear VERY true. I've heard other "rumors" from other Mt. Desert residents as well.

Mt. Desert has dealt with celebrities for over 100 years and they generally all get along. But its been a different story with Miss Martha. She's not well liked there.

White Collar Crime Does Pay

We don't convict white collar criminals these days. Ken Lay of Enron is still free.

When we DO finally convict SOMEBODY, the punishments rarely fit the crimes. Steal a couple thousand people's retirement counts at least as much as bank robbery to me.

I think Martha did it, I don't think she could possibly control herself to NOT do it, given her personality flaws.

A Younger Martha

I've seen a photo of Martha when she was younger (lots younger), in a red bathing suit. The scary thing was that...

She Was HOT when she was younger!

blech, blech, gag, gugugugug...

Oh, I think Martha is tremendously guilty, but I still can't help but resent the idea of dumping all the sentences on her that should have been levied against a bunch of good ole' white boys for the sake of the federal government saying they accomplished something.

The Enron Kings are a prime example. Another celebrity case that burns me is Rush Limbaugh. As harsh as he is when others fall from grace (if they are liberals) I think they were far to easy on him.

Guilty, guilty, guilty.

Unfortunately, I don't think she'll get as hard of a "slap" as she probably deserves. Or it could be that I've just lost hope in the justice system when it comes to dealing with celebrity criminals properly.

Jaded much?

Oh, and since it's Martha . . . :hork:

I think she IS guilty of some form of insider trading, but that is not what she is charged with, which to me proves the government doesn't have a solid case. She is being charged with the following, all of which is pretty much unprovable...but there may be enough innuendo going around to make it stick:

* Conspiracy: Alleges Stewart and Bacanovic "willfully and knowingly" worked together to obstruct justice and make false statements in the stock-trading scandal.

* False statements: Alleges, among other things, Stewart lied when she told the Securities and Exchange Commission, FBI and federal prosecutors she had prearranged with Bacanovic to sell ImClone when it fell below $60 per share.

* False statements: Alleges, among other things, Stewart lied when she told the SEC, FBI and prosecutors that she did not recall being told on Dec. 27, 2001, that the Waksal family was selling ImClone stock.

* Obstruction of justice: Alleges that, from January to April 2002, Stewart "willfully and knowingly" tried to hamper the SEC investigation of her stock sale by providing misleading information.

* Securities fraud: Alleges Stewart "well knew" her personal reputation was critical to shareholders in her company, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. Alleges she made misleading public statements in June 2002, after news of her ImClone sale broke, and intended to "defraud and deceive" her investors.

A lot of this stuff goes to "What was she THINKING at the time" ...

I have heard from many that in person she a nasty piece of work, but they are just spending an obscene amount of money to try her, all the while letting enron, worldom, global crossing fatcats walk free, with a nudge and a wink...

Here is a link to todays New York Times article on the trial.

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/02/10/business/10MART.html

Something does not feel right about this trial. I don't know if she is innocent, but I find the hair splitting about what she is being charged with smacks of a witchhunt.

Interesting cause Kenneth Lay and his cronies have yet to face any kind of trial....
