Just a straight simple question. What are you registered as, or what WOULD you register as if you had to right now.

I am a registered Republican, but I have more Libertarian views than anything. I just wanted to pick one of the two major parties because they are always who get elected.
Edited to add: I had an American Government teacher in high school who was a Socialist...

I usually pick 'decline to state' on surveys and such. I *think* I'm now registered as Independent.
I forget... and it doesn't influence who/what I vote for, anyway. :D

Jacqui  I also am a registered Republican but I closer to Libertarian. There are quite a few Libertarian political views that I don't agree with... like the drug issue and abortion.

I'm currently registered as a Republican, but my real preference is to completely do away with political parties and try electing people based on whether or not they can actually do a good job.
Like *that's* ever gonna happen... :grr:

Registered voter here. Party affiliation = "unenrolled" (that's Massachusetts-speak for "independent"). My views are generally on the liberal side of center. I vote for the PERSON, not the PARTY. On issue votes, I select what I think is best for the locality covered by the vote.

Thats so sad. Our votes are a precious resource. We need to use them as best as possible. It rather irks me when people just give up and say all politicians are corrupt. They arent ALL corrupt. Only when you think they are all corrupt are they. go for a third party man!!!
Im technically a registered democrat, but i dont agree with them in alot of ways. The party i actually have liked teh most is the Natural Law party (which despite being the fastest growing is not in this poll). They are run basically by scientists and have pratical clear solutions to issues...not the same BS that alot of the main parties tout. Id highly sugggest giving a once over of their platform at www.naturallaw.org . Strangely they havent updated it since the last election though...
I dont quite understand when people will just stick to one party. I vote for the candidate who is the most qualified, and makes the most sense. if that was a republican id vote for him. In fact if i was around during the McCain deal i would have switched to republican just to vote for him. Sadly didnt have the right to vote then....

independent, totally issue driven- depending on the topic, I'm anarchist, libertarian, communist, green, democrat, or republican. on many topics, I think grinner and I cancel each other's vote out (hey, I love you big guy, but it's just the plain truth).
guess I like to live in the gray area outside the boundaries of the parties.

I don't identify real well with any of the American political parties for the most part or any of the Canadian ones up here either. I tend to just vote for whoever I agree with most on the current issues of the day. All in all I tend to lean away from things like anarchism, drug legalization etc but toward things like secularism and equal rights.
So Buddah, you started the poll but didn't answer the question.

Not registered. It's not worth the five minutes out of my day to go vote. Sadly, I mean that.
I find it amusing when people act puzzled as to why voter turnout is so low in the US. It's pretty simple - when people don't see a reason to vote, they don't. When the system in place produces two clones to pick from, why bother picking?
The two party system is the single greatest threat to American society. It's a system run by lobbyists, that rewards the people who do the best job of whoring themselves out to those lobbyists. Every four years the populace is presented with identical choices to pick from as their leaders, to give us the illusion of control, and to keep us pacified.
I wish it would be made illegal for candidates for public office to declare a party affiliation. Eliminate all political parties, and force every candidate to run on their own merit. I'd gladly pay a few extra dollars in taxes to fund their campaigns if it made lobbying public officials illegal as well.
Maybe then people would see a reason to vote. Apathy isn't the fault of the voters, it's the fault of the people supporting a system that makes people care so little about voting, and see so little point in the result.
