View Full Version : Little things you love about Farscape...

I know there are huge elements we all love about Farscape: the characters and their development over the series, the wonderful story arc, the adventure, the romance, the special effects, the exotic aliens and locations... I could go on forever!

But what are the little things, the details, etc. that you just love?

I love it when we hear D'Argo speak Luxan or Aeryn speak Sebacean or Scorpius speak Scarren. I just love accents in general and hearing the different languages just makes me smile :)

I love Aeryn's (well, Claudia's) accent. I'm from Australia, and I don't often hear accents like that. It's got a very cool lilt to it.

I'm sure I'll think of other things, but that was the first that came to mind.

the lovely way they all interact with each other, its very touchy-feely without it being fake or sordid. its as if they all really care for each other and show their emotions freely without fear of boundaries or misunderstandings. there's a lovely innocence and trust about it that I find lacking in my life!

Like when John holds hands with one of the girls.

Example: Holding Chiana's hand in John Quiote while they follow the coin path or Jool's hand in What Was Lost: Sacrifice while Jool is explaining the dig site to him.

Yes exactly! it is sooo lovely and tragicaly sooooooooooooo unrealistic! inthe real world a guy holds your hand for no clear reason ro kisses your nose as a way of saying thank you... and you immediately suspect his intention. and 9 times out of 10 your suspicions would be correct! ain't that just a kick in rump! :(

Oh, another one...

When John rests his head on Aeryn's shoulder and runs her fingers through his hair

I like the "Look" glances exchanged between the characters. Just a "look" says so much, either adds an edge or softens one. I'm always watching the show, because so much is exchanged physically. I just adore the physical interactions. Like it was said before, the hand holding, the roughhousing, glances - oh, there's lots of little stuff that I like. Many times, I like the little stuff the best!!:D

I love it when John kisses someone platonicly on the head or a check or the nose it's just cute to me... I also like how he seemed to change alot of people in his life almost as much as he changed himself

For me, it will always boil down to Crichton's incessant Crichtonisms, combined with the fact that even after all this time, the aliens still don't understand a thing he says.

D'Argo: "Who is Lou Costello?"

Oh, and I second that vote for Aeryn speaking Sebacean.

I like CBC... :rollin: but you are right they take great chances WGFA would never be on star trek... CDM... SnS... I could go on... what other shows have the main love intrests actuly gotten together before the end of the run... I KNOW BT WAS THE LAST EP BUT THEY HAD ONE OR TWO MORE SEASONS BEFORE THE END OF THE RUN

I definetly agree with all of whats been said so far.. the interactions between Crichton and Aeryn before they are actually together are great, even though they aren't together yet you can see something between them and there's real emotion there. Something as simple as way back in Season 1 when when Aeryn gets her hand stuck to the floor of Moya and after when she's able to wash the rest off herself John is still holding her hand..

Definetly all the well thought out scenes inside John's head as well.. even if they're just short some of them, they're great.

CRICHTONISMS and translator microbe mishaps!! Being a child of the 80's, I love it wheneverhe references things like Yoda being a great teacher of warriors and the way Aeryn would simply nod as if a light bulb went off. Of course she had no idea what he actually said. I also love Aeryn's sarcastic wit.

I also love the outfits that Aeryn, Jool, Sikozu, and Chian wear. WooHoo!

I also thought the make-up job they did on Zhaan, very elaborate and detailed.

Me too! :cry2:

But let us think about what we love about Farscape to keep us until the mini.

I watched What Was Lost 1&2 twice in the last few days. I just love that episode. The location is awesome, especially with the underwater scenes and who can forget:

"Braca, You're a man of the world, right? Does my ass look big in these pants?" - John Crichton :D

Oh, and who could forget Aeryn trying to speak English?

"She gives me a woody."
"I'm getting a bad bribe."
"Jirl power."

All good things.

I love it every time D'Argo knocks someone out with his tongue, it's just that damn cool.

I love how whenever there is some kind of crisis, it's always Crichton who's running around the ship from level to level giving out orders.

I love Chiana's giggle.

I love Rygel's chortle whenever he thinks he's going to be rich again, or he's pulled something over on someone.

I absolutely love 'crazy Crichton'. You know, when he seems like he's losing it, and you know it's just the way he is when he knows he's got nothing left to lose, and he kicks himself into that mode where it's do or die...

I love those as well! When D'Argo tongues Crichton in What Was Lost, very funny and very cool!

Crazy John is always exciting, like when he's on the presents ship with Braca in the Look at the Princess triology :D

What was the ep on Sunday? I forgot the name, sorry, senior moment....*sigh*

SPOILER SPACE....................

But, talking about that ep, I loved it when Aeryn and John are scuffling down the corridor having just got Scorpius from the Emperor, and they encounter some Charrids. That "o, sh**" look UTChick is talking about comes over John's face, and then bam! The Charrid drops dead, and they see Braca, grinning at them, SUCH a cute grin,*sigh* and they continue scuffling off with Scorpius.

Great moment.*grin*

I love all the little looks and mannerisms. They can convey so much. For example Aeryns smile at the end of The Flax after she has talked with John, John is walking away and the camera focuses on Aeryn's face, smiling. At the end of the Look at the Princess trilogy, after John and Aeryn kissed with that special compatibility elixer. No words, but you see a smile break out on Aeryn's face. That conveyed much more than any dialogue would have. It can be tragic too. At the very end of John Quixote when Crichton rejects Aeryn's attempt at reconciliation, the look on Aeryn's face is heartbreaking.

Gigi Egley's whole way of moving as Chiana is masterful. The way she crouches, moves, nods her head around all make her seem alien, sexy, but an alien. Most actors playing aliens still move like a human. Gigi really seems to move around like some kind of humanoid with a slightly different arrangement of muscles than a human.

I agree with enforcer about the costuming. Sexy, yes, but it is also just plain looks cool. The creature shop also deserves kudos for so many aliens that really appear alien, not just different skin color or a few bumps and ridges added here or there.

And Harvey. All those scenes with Harvey and John inside John's head. I love those. The wierd places they meet or the movie take offs.

A couple of great things about farscape...

1 - This has to be the only show where you can have an alien dive into a character's mind and interrogate him while at the same time that character is still deeper in his mind talking to his very own harvey. The fact that this show pulled off such a feat is proof positive that this was the best sci fi tv show in 20 years, maybe of all time.

2 - I don't remember the exact phrase or episode, but John says one of his trademark redneck phrases, and chiana (Who has no idea what John meant) giggles her little gaspy giggle. When I think of farscape, I think of that scene

Can you tell I'm an English major?

But I also agree with absolutly everything else that has been said.

Farscape is beyond amazing.

Another "small" thing....

That this show has been cancelled for over a year, but we still talk about it, celebrate it, cry for it, laugh at it, and fight for it.

This is an eensy-weensy thing, but I love how the characters change clothes -- y'know? The styles stay similar, but it's not the same dang thing every episode. It adds to the real feeling of the series. Does any of us know anyone who wears the exact same outfit every day of their lives?

The sense that each character has a complete history behind them.

Bodily functions aren't shied away from. Can you imagine another Certain Unnamed Show having a character that farts helium like Rygel? Or getting violently sick from eating something?

The characters doubt, have fears and insecurities -- yet another level of detail.

That all the *gee-whiz* stuff doesn't overtake the primacy of the characters' experiences.

The attention to detail makes Farscape a wonderful place to visit.

I just love all of the references John gives throughout different episodes; they crack me up!
I enjoy all of the emotion in the series, and the development between the different characters.
The way everyone is perplexed by John’s actions.
But most of all I love Farscape because it is the best Sci-Fi show ever!

I love how I think of Rygel, Pilot, and the DRD's as Characters instead of props. It takes real tallent to pull that off. The Hensons have always had a way with this sort of thing.

Also the characters in general have believable relaionships. There is love, hate, jealousy, admiration, competition, and more between the characters. There also doesn't seem to be a clear cut "leader" or "Captain" of the ship, which I think helps keep Farscape fresh. I just can't see any of them playing follow the leader and still retain the personality that makes them so engaging. They also don't have rigidly defined "Jobs" on ship, everyone just does what they can. This is why I think I got bored with Star Trek.

Also, to echo SweetpeaAeryn, the community and the support it gets from the fans and Henson is beyond anything I could have hoped for in fandom. This place really does feel like a community. I feel like I have a personal stake in of all things, a TV show. That my friends is no little thing...

SweetpeaAeryn,

Sure! Thanks for asking. What kind of "class" is this for? If you don't mind me asking, that is.

Just so you know, this is trully how I feel about this Place and the Show. I have been lurking and or posting here since the Day after they announced the cancellation. In all my years online (18 or 19 if you count Bulletin Boards in the days of C64's and Apple 2's) I have never run across a community that was so open and welcoming to new people. Not only that, but the team work around here and the enthusiasm is unequalled in all of fandom.

I love Farscape because:

of the chemistry between Mr. Browder and Ms. Black. :) :) :) It was one of the things that got me watching the show in the first place and I'm still amazed by it!

All of the people involved in making the show are friends with each other and they're genuinely nice people who like interacting with fans :)... or so I've heard. :)

every time I watch an episode I see something new, even if it's one I've seen before.

it has inspired some of the best things I've ever written. Writing and Farscape are two of my favorite things!

Farscape has got to be the only show since I was a kid that I was actually excited, really excited, to watch. I mean, there are the occasional series on TV that I look forward to watching every week, like CSI, but dammit, when there was a season premiere of Farscape on that Friday night, I got giddy thinking about it!

That's great television.

Awesome points, all of em, gunna hilight and bring up a few others:

Chritonisms
Chiana's movements... yeah
D'argo's attitude when he's argueing a stupid but clear point.
Crazy John (Hot to Katratzi)
The cleverist writing anywhere.
1812!!!!!! I'm suprised he never got mentioned, but you can't not love that little DRD.
The depth of characters (even if you had good char dev in something like star trek, there were so few risks, so few issues that ever carried over, you really didn't care... and im gunna go off on a little rant here, but thats the problem with all star treks now, DS9 tried a little to get away from that, so did voyager, but not enough. I think the next place the trek universe should go is post apocalyptic. I mean, they could have a season with a ship with a new crew that's sorta classic trek style (or just skip that and have a voyager based movie) that ends with the bad guys winning, the federation along with maybe some of the other major players losing, and have a series pick up in a much more chaotic universe)
The angles, the style.
The fact that there were so rarely cut and dry evildoers, it was almost always ambiguos (save Muldous, the worst villain ever)

Chi27

Farscape is the first and probably only show that catches you completely off guard, especially the dialogue and/or the sexual innuendo. I mean how clever was that to have that scene where Scorpy pops his rod. You don't necessarily immediately conclude that was sexual in nature, but then you realize that it is. Or Aeryn's line in Green Eyed Monster about "which one is bigger", and a lot of other clever stuff.
