Dr. David Kelly went missing on 17th July 2003 and was found dead on 18th July. Days before, Kelly had testified before Parliament's Foreign Affairs Select Committee that he was not the source of a BBC story which had accused the Government of making false claims about Iraq's WMD.

Thanks. I tried to do a search on his name, but it is a bit on the common side.
Wow! I'm starting to get flashbacks of... Whitewater?

I hope they'll resume the inquest into his death. But I doubt it. Hutton firmly believes it's a suicide.

Ordinarily, I'd not give conspiracy theories like that a second thought.
But nowadays, things aren't quite so clear cut. We have Tony threatening the BBC for daring to oppose him (last survey I saw, most respondents thought the report exonerating Tony was a whitewash).
We have the Bush administration trying unsuccesfully to threaten former Secretary O'Neill (O'Neill for President, dammit) for their own mistaken release of materials. Arguably to silence him after he dared to expose the inner workings of the White House.
And national policies in Britain and the U.S. based more or less on conspiracy theories that have not borne out, only later to be contradicted by hard, on the ground intelligence. Hard intelligence that is, of course denied by policy makers...
I have to wonder! It deserves at LEAST as much play as the Vince Foster suicide was played by neo-conservatives.

I got to be honest, but this just get better for Tony Blair's government. As much as I'd like to belive that he was done in by dark forces it may be that there wasn't enough medical evidence to entirely close the case surrounding Dr David Kelly's death.
You know at the time of his death I kept thinking to meself that this man has got everything. He's got a family a lovely home, alright maybe he thought he didn't have a great job, but it pays a hell of a lot more than I'll ever see in me life time, and I believe his daughter was soon to be married and I just thought, why? Ok, he did have the attention too, but hey the guy is a public servent, I mean he's got to expect some attention.

I don't think that Kelley committed suicide... I even said that on another forum after his body was found. The whole situation didn't make sense. Too many questions about why he did it. And the Hutton Report is a bit of a farce. Even though I do believe that the BBC shouldn't be a government supported entity... Blair should not be threatening to close it down if they don't support him. Whatever happened to Freedom of the Press... wait that isn't a right in England. As it has never been an enacted right... or that I could find anywhere. Not like in the US where it is in the First Amendment.

Keep in mind the accidental deaths and "suicides" plaguing those who dare oppose the Empire in public or the media:
Paul Wellstone (plane crash)
Mel Carnahan (plane crash)
John Kennedy (plane crash)
David Kelly (suicide)
Former Enron Corp. vice chairman J. Clifford Baxter( The Enron Exec who talked) (suicide)
Various litigants against The Empire
Ask some insurance actuary how likely it is that only The Opposition suffers these deaths. I hate fuzz-brained conspiracy theories as much as any journalist, but I do know that Beech Queen Airs and Piper Malibus don't fall out of the sky routinely.

To clarify, I feel the Vince Foster suicide deserved to be investigated thoroughly by a more fully independent group. The case was bungled from the get-go... perhaps deliberately.

Have you read the book "The Strange Death of Vince Foster" by investigative reporter Christopher Ruddy? It's a fascinating and detailed read.

OK, that's my question. Does England have freedom of the press as a law like we do?

Freedom of the press? Not when it's all owned by Clear Channel, which was a big supporter of the current Administration.
Now THAT is bias.

I actually looked up the ownership of local radio stations around me and was quite pleased to find that Clear Channel was NOT a dominant presence here. From all the articles I had read, it seemed like they owned a majority market share everywhere. They might in some markets, but central Mass. isn't one of them, apparently.
Here is a source to find out who owns what in your area: http://www.openairwaves.org/telecom/analysis/default.aspx

They own most of the radio stations here in Indy -- and you can tell too... CAUSE THEY PLAY NOTHING BUT CRAP! But I digress
