Neat idea for a science project.

Girl: Cat Saliva Cleaner Than Dog Drool

BELCOURT, N.D. (AP) - A young scientist says cat drool appears to be cleaner than that of dogs. Lacey Lafromboise, a fifth-grader at Turtle Mountain Elementary School in Belcourt, earned a trip to the Native American Science Fair in Albuquerque, N.M. by proving that her two dogs have more bacteria in their mouths than her two cats.

Lacey said she got the idea for the study while one of her dogs was licking her face.

Lacey tested the saliva of her cats, Jasum and Daisy, and her pet dogs, Copper and Lady. One of the dogs spends most of its time outdoors. She said that dog has more bacteria in its mouth, probably because it chews on things outside.

"On the other hand, the indoor cat is dirtier than the cat that spends most of its time outdoors," Lacey said.

She hypothesized that the indoor cat's habit of eating table scraps created more bacteria.

Her mom, Sandy Lafromboise, got permission from a science professor to use an incubator and a microscope at Minot State University.

The experiment won Lacey top honors at some science local and regional fairs.

Lacey said she will probably improve on her experiment before heading to Albuquerque. She said she may retest her pets and make a new display board.

Lacey said she's also practicing questions that judges may ask her.

So if you're going to be smooching your pets ... stick with the cats.

:aok: But keep in mind that both species frequently lick their butts!

That is so cool that this kid came up with this unique idea on her own. And its nice to see kids interested in science fairs.

And dogs have a habit of eating certain things that are utterly gross :yuck: while no cat would do that.

I don't know ... I've seen cats eat some pretty icky stuff. My cat had a penchant for green olives and peanut butter. Together.

Ick. Do NOT ask how I discovered that combination.

That in no way comes close to icky as eating kitty chunder and the contents of the litter box. :yuck:

errr ... translation of Aussie term

chunder = vomit

Have you ever TRIED to eat green olives and peanut butter?!

Well, since I haven't tried to eat cat chunder, I guess I can't comment. Hell, cat puke could taste like pumpkin pie for all we know!

Okay ... I think we've taken it over the edge. I'm starting to get a bit churly.

Oooooh! Take it to the CAT VOMIT thread.

Nor does it look anything like pumpkin pie. It looks way more like pimento stuffed green olives with peanut butter

I guess you can take the vomit out of the thread title, but not our sick heads.

But you CAN take the vomit out of the cat.... err.... I mean the vomit comes out of the cat on its own, assisted by horrible repetitive noises.

I've found something of a balance, I have both a cat and a dog, and the dog spends a lot of time licking the cat

you forgot the other noise that comes first (I think Selena posted this one in the other thread)- it's something like

groop
groop
groop
huwack!

this can be iterative, especially if what's being...chundered?...is olives and pnut butter.

My cats make a noise more like "HWARF". Sometimes "HAAAAACK".

Yes, I did forget the "rocks rolling down the roof" preliminary noise. How those sounds come out of such a little body is a mystery of physics akin to the "duck echo" mystery.

I feel so bad for the cats when they are having their frequent dry heaves. So violent. Poor babies.

You know whats odd--my two little boys used to say this all the time.
Then I finally asked them what it meant--they showed me a skateboard they had with it on there.

"Dogs drool........Cats rule."

And that noise has the amazing ability to wake me out of a sound sleep faster than any other noise known to man!

I was going to ask Scarran Raptor if the dog licking the cat was a social thing, or if the dog was tasting the cat, but someone beat me to it. That will teach me to to leave this place to do some job related work!

In my neighborhood ... gunshots might come first, but cat-digestive-battle comes in at a very close second place.
