Edit: can you believe I spelled his name wrong in the subject line??!! So. Stupid. :rollin: ... frell......

The Robert A. Heinlein Memorial Award honors those individuals who have made significant, lifetime contributions to the creation of a free, space faring civilization. Their contributions can be in any form- such as scientific, technical, engineering, theoretical, written (fiction or non fiction), political, philosophical, visionary, public relations, or mass media, economic or business, etc., or a combination of the above. Those individuals whose actions have involved personal, social, or financial risk are particularly meritorious. Do not exclude anyone from consideration if his or her contribution is in only one area, such as engineering.
Only living individuals, or those who have been deceased less then three years prior to the starting date of the convention (died after May 23, 2001), and of any nationality, are eligible for this award. Previous winners include Dr. Gerald K. O’Neill, Sir Arthur C. Clarke, Dr. Wernher von Braun, Gene Roddenberry, Dr. Robert H. Goddard, Dr. Buzz Aldrin, Dr. Carl Sagan, Neil Armstrong, & Robert Zubrin. Sen. John Glenn has asked previously that he be removed from consideration to give someone else a chance of getting the award.

Please give a list of 3 choices in descending order of preference.
I appreciate it. :D

Edited to add: 3 is the number and the number shall be 3.

I just hope it wasn't on a thursday.
...sniff.... I loved that man!

Anyhow... what was the name of the first tourist in space? Not that I would pick him for this, but this made me think of that.. and you know how that goes. And now it is bugging me because I can't remember his name.

Ah...thanks for clearing that up!

You know, I really should get to know this Arthur Dent character...I'd never heard of the character until Farscape. "Hitchiker's Guide to the Universe," right? What's that all about anyway?

Has Ray Bradbury been awarded yet? I would think he has, but I'm not sure.

No he hasn't. I was thinking of him... this is tough. I was also thinking Sally Ride. Or Tom Hanks. Or the guy who is sponsering that contest for the first commercially built, launched, re-launched two person orbiter...

My other pick is Dr. Peter Diamandis. He is the founder of X Prize.

So, I need one more... any ideas?

PS. Any one know why is the word 'award' is now red in my first post? I didn't do that.

It's not red to me. Did you search for the post using the word "award" anywhere in the terms? That'll do it.
