Ok, to start off, today was crazy. I walk in the door and a co-worker is STANDING on my desk trying to unjam the printer that sits on top of a 4-drawer file cabinet next to me. The printer is frelled, so I call tech support. They write me a ticket, yada yada. Four people are standing around it and me, though, trying to fix it (by picking crumpled paper out with a paperclip). Fun.
The printer is dead, so spend an hour on the phone AGAIN with Tech trying to transfer the 6 puters in my dept to another printer. (Alot of chaos in between, but won't get into all that - it was a madhouse!)
So I am supposed to be fixing this, logging in a rush file (mortgage), watching the phones for the receptionist, etc. (It's not EVEN 10:30 yet!)
Yeah! Lunch. Can't go to one place; don't take credit cards. Go to Popeyes. Yum. Phones again; work is finally calming down. OH! My "Joe", Alisha, brought her 4 year old girl to work all day b/c she was sick, so the girl is running around screaming, etc., while her mom is doing rush loans, "fixing" the printer, etc. Fun.
Ok, so about 3:30, they call me into the office and.... FIRE ME! Woo hoo! They let me and one guy go (he was a great worker, too). We love you, yada yada. We'll try to get you on at the title company upstairs, come in half days Mon and Tues to train the OTHER girl. (She was a closer, but just came back from maternity leave this week, p/t.) So she's going to do my job. Yeah, right.
Turns out the guy and I are expendable b/c replacing us are two girls (sisters, who also had babies at nearly the same time) just got back from maternity leave, and I don't think TPTB can fire them w/o breaking some sort of law, so they let me and Ryan go. Wondermus.
End of story.

funny how whenever something bad happens it's never an isolated incident, when the dren hits the fan it's usually en masse, still part of me wonders what would happen if you had a broodling of your own would you still be expendable or are the sisters some ultra-rare disabled minority or something because unless there was some DIRE reason they had to let you go, you can sue them for wrongful termination

 Do you remember the episode of ST:TNG when a bunch of Ferengis take over the ship and Picard, Guinan and Keiko have been turned into kids? There's a scene where Riker is supposed to be explaining how to run the ship to a Ferengi and he's making up all this stuff (ala Froonium drive). Give your replacement a little "Revenging Angel" inspired lesson. :grr: Toss out a few metaphorical banana peels -- maybe you could make up some bogus governmental agencies to whom the paperwork must be sent. :rollin:
Any company that fires someone and expects her to train her replacement doesn't deserve any better. :whip:

Ah Samanti, that sucks. I don't know what else to say. At least they dangled that little carrot (job w/the title company) in front of you. Hang in there. You may be moving on to bigger and better things.
That SUCKS! I'm so sorry to hear that! Hopefully, you'll get something even better...

Here's looking forward to you finding YOUR right job

Or try this. It is more anonymous. :D

This is a good site. Check out the magnetic bumper stickers. I think I need to order a few Crack Ho ones for some people I know. The only problem is, if the person is not homophobic, many of these magnets won't be effective.

I do have a kidlet, and Im single, but they have both been there over 5 years and I don't think TPTB can let them go. So while Michelle was gone, Ryan did her job and while Brooke was gone they just made due short a closer. So Brooke doesn't want to be a closer anymore and they both only want to work part time. See? Expendable compared to those two. Florida is a no-fault, so not much I can do...
Thanks for all the hugs, y'all. I knew that I can count on my friends here for support! Hugs back to all of you! Don't worry, I was out of a job during the 5th of Farscape rally and got this job on the 10th, so it all works out.

Ok, so I'm kinda of in the REALLY pissed-off stage. You know what a bad part of it is? (one of many, lol) is that Brooke, the younger sister) and I are really good friends. I was one of the first to see the baby, etc. And I was supposed to go to her house tomorrow to help her straighten her hair. Also, she still has my FotR disc 2 in her DVD player; I need that.
So, what am supposed to tell her? "Ryan and I lost our jobs b/c you and your sister came back and wanted to work p/t and this was the only way to do it w/o violating the FMLA?" Its the truth, but I don't even think she'll understand and it's not technically her fault. I guess I need to call her up and confirm tomorrow... Then see if she knows. (She left at 3, I was fired at 3:30, so she still may not know...)

As a matter of fact you would not be wrong telling her the truth, because it is truth.
I personally would not want to destroy a friendship over this, as long as she didn't maliciously get pregnant and take FMLA in order for you to lose your job. I do think your employer is a moron, but I come by this with limmited information.
Just don't try to make her feel responsible, because from the information you are delivering, I don't beleive she is.
samati75
02-28-2004, 04:38 PM
No, she's not, but I want her to know the truth as I see it. If it was just me being fired I wouldn't be surprised, b/c I was always getting in trouble anyway. But when they let Ryan go, I knew what the reason was. I just want Brooke and Michelle to know why were let go and let them figure it out from there. Btw, I did call her, but she wasn't home, so I 'll try again later.

I would just show up and ask for the DVD back and tell her that right now you are having a bad time and need some time to yourself. She'll figure it out on her own.

:grr: being fired when you're doing your job AND someone else's sucks royally... i've been there.. similar situation, actually... anyways.. i agree with the thought abaddon put up.. just your way of knowing that there's something better out there for you, and it's time to start looking for it..

Don't know what else to tell you that has not already been said. Telling the truth is all you can do, but getting over the "I'm mad as hell" stage may take a little while yet though - so try to tread lightly in the meantime.
Damn though! :grr:
Hope you have luck finding an even better job.

Update from Monday: I went in to train Brooke and we did the reports together while the boss (the daughter) is asking "Where are the report?!" lol. Then Brooke, who I had seen Sunday and has the flu, had to leave and did so around 11:30. In the meanwhile, ppl who do and don't know are still giving me work/assignments, etc. I kept saying "I don't work here! I am training Brooke!" But even the boss (the father) was calling me asking me questions!
Brooke told them lady she had to go and was met with "Well, Sara can't stay here without the constant supervision of an employee so she may as well leave, too". Gah! Bastards. :pissed:
So with files on my desk, the lady walks up and asks me what I want to do. I told her that considering all was there to do was train my replacent, I sure had ALOT of work to do! She asked if I could do it today when Brooke and I came back. I was like, "Eh, sure"... :headbang:
So, I did NOT go back this morning. Nothing of value left in my desk, I'm still getting 3 wks severance pay. Everyone at work was shocked and sad, and I felt much love. But no, I was not going to go back and be the fool. All my co-workers agree.

Good for You!
That "employee" comment was snide and unnecessary. Remember, you are still available for contract work if they need you, but you must insist on pay 3X what you were earning before.
I had a job where they paid piddly and fired or let employees quit. But no one else could do the job, so they'd hire them back as consultants and private contractors and have to pay at least 3X the price. :)

Oh i'm not speciality. I just sit on a desk. But they had to impress the new corporation by letting us go, while keeping is "placted" by offering to let us work two extra days. I felt like a damn criminal. Im already over it. I miss my friends, tho, and plan to keep in touch with them. Prolly see a few at MegaCon Saturday.
