:eek4: Aaack! I am listening to a remake of Lovesong right this very minute!!!!
It's a sort of slowish, dreamy Red Hot Chili Peppers-meet-ska version... by 311, I think, from the 50 First Dates soundtrack.
I dunno how I feel about it at the moment... :eh: but it was a shock to hear it and NOT by The Cure! :eek3:

I have no idea what you just said. Does that mean I'm getting old?
I love that song, SGB :) I love the original version and this one equally.. they're both similar but different :D

lovesong is a tune by the cure.
Stars, if you really want to get blown away google "Blank and Jones a forest"!!!!!!
I heard that one in a store, asked the clerk where she got it :dunno:
spent an hour googling and used my german 101 from 10 years ago to order the cd from amazon.de! :D

Kurt, I'm gonna go do that right now... and Jul, I knew there was a reason I was your MonkeyMinion(tm)---it's your good taste in music! :rollin:
Oh, and I have decided that I LIKE the 311 cover. I like it A LOT. :D
ETA: I need this soundtrack. I need it very badly. *drools*

I think Sandler's a bit of a cure fan (or is it Barrymore?)
There was cure in Wedding Singer too...
(And Gross Pointe Blank, but neither of them is in that one :D )

Another one to check out is the cleopatra lables
a tribute to the cure: 1000 tears
Razed in Black does one of the most amazing versions of disintigration I've ever heard. Immagine a young Trent Reznor/NIN doing it...

I wish that The Echo and the Bunnymen would have followed thru on their threat to cover every Doors song... their version of People are Strange from The Lost Boys is much better than The Doors original.

Speaking of Trent Reznor, did you hear that NIN has a new album coming out? :woohoo:

I like Dinosaur Jr's version of Just Like Heaven... if The Cure were heavy alternative guitar orientated.

Other projects/rarities to look out for:
The Glove: Blue Sunshine (a Smith and Souxie Soux side project)
Various artists: for the Masses (a tribute to Depeche Mode)
Smashing Pumpkins
cure (world in my eyes)
meat beat manifesto
monster magnet
veruca salt
deftones
and
Ramstein: Stripped :rollin: :lol :roflmao:

I first heard Dinosaur Jrs version on a compilation by Much Music called Big Shiny tunes. They're now on BST 12, IIRC, so it must have been the cure influence on the first one  :D

Cause it's the last thing I ever expected to hear on that cd. And it's so far from the original, I just find it hilarious!
Then again, I always thought the title to the DM song "its no good" was an onomatopoeia :D

OTOH, I've got a single for "Only when I lose myself" and it's got a killer B-side called Headstar. Best. DM. Ever.

THE CURE - Burn
MACHINES OF LOVING GRACE - Golgatha Tenament
STONE TEMPLE PILOTS - Big Empty
NINE INCH NAILS - Dead Souls
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE - Darkness (of Greed)
VIOLENT FEMMES - Color Me Once

HELMET - Milktoast
PANTERA - The Badge
FOR LOVE NOT LISA - Slip Slide Melting
MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT - After The Flesh
THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN - Snakedriver

THE CURE - Burn
"Don't look don't look" the shadows breathe
Whispering me away from you
"Don't wake at night to watch her sleep
You know that you will always lose
This trembling
Adored
Tousled bird mad girl... "
But every night I burn
But every night I call your name
Every night I burn
Every night I fall again
"Oh don't talk of love" the shadows purr
Murmuring me away from you
"Don't talk of worlds that never were
The end is all that's ever true
There's nothing you can ever say
Nothing you can ever do... "
Still every night I burn
Every night I scream your name
Every night I burn
Every night the dream's the same
Every night I burn
Waiting for my only friend
Every night I burn
Waiting for the world to end
"Just paint your face" the shadows smile
Slipping me away from you
"Oh it doesn't matter how you hide
Find you if we're wanting to
So slide back down and close your eyes
Sleep a while
You must be tired... "
But every night I burn
Every night I call your name
Every night I burn
Every night I fall again
Every night I burn
Scream the animal scream
Every night I burn
Dream the crow black dream
Dream the crow black dream...

So nothing. It just shocked me. When I was a kid I only listened to jazz and pop music (no, not the song by M :D ). Then I was introduced to the Doors. My entire life changed. Soon I was listening to other Rock and Roll, like the Stones, The Who, Zeppelin, etc. Eventually I found stuff like The Sex Pistols, the Cure, The Violent Femmes and others. My musical tastes may have broadened anyway, but it was Jim Morrison and the Doors who really started it.

I just think that he was over-rated. My older brothers listened to them... and Led Zep among other bands... but my tastes went more punk/metal/industrial/etc... I do listen to The Cure and other 80's bands more now than I did back in the 80's... weird how that is.

Today's alternative music flashback courtesy of Toad the Wet Sprocket (listening to Walk on the Ocean right now, then Fall Down and Something's Always Wrong, although my personal favorite is the lovely and melancholy Fly From Heaven) and Violent Femmes, which is actually Kurt's fault 'cos he brought up the Grosse Pointe Blank soundtrack last night and so I had to go and listen to it again, damn him... :lol
And I'm getting all piney for some classic English Beat... might have to do something about that. :tunes:

Went to Spartan on the weekend.
They showed the trailer for Jersey Girl
http://www.apple.com/trailers/miramax/jersey_girl/
Listen carefully:
High
When I see you sky as a kite
As high as I might
I can't get that high
The how you move
The way you burst the clouds
It makes me want to try
When I see you sticky as lips
As licky as trips
I can't lick that far
But when you pout
The way you shout out loud
It makes me want to start
And when I see you happy as a girl
That swims in a world of magic show
It makes me bite my fingers through
To think I could've let you go
And when I see you
Take the same sweet steps
You used to take
I say I'll keep on holding you
My arms so tight
I'll never let you slip away
And when I see you kitten as a cat
Yeah as smitten as that
I can't get that small
Tthe way you fur
The how you purr
It makes me want to paw you all
And when I see you happy as a girl
That lives in a world of make-believe
It makes me pull my hair all out
To think I could've let you leave
And when I see you
Take the same sweet steps
You used to take
I know I'll keep on holding you
In arms so tight
They'll never let you go
