I got this little tidbit from Scifi. Yep I still peak in on them from time to time. Figure this would interest us as Henson will be involved and it shows that Disney isn't going to sit on the Muppets.

--------------------

ABC is readying a Muppet version of The Wizard of Oz with producers Jim Henson Productions and Fox TV Studios, Variety reported. The TV movie would likely be the first major production to emerge from Disney's deal to take control of the Muppets brand and characters, though the project was actually in the works long before the February sale was announced, the trade paper reported.

Debra Frank and Steven Hayes are writing a script, which will feature familiar Muppet characters retelling the classic Wizard of Oz story. It's possible the movie will include a human character as well, most likely Dorothy, insiders told the trade paper.

The movie will be based on the original L. Frank Baum novel The Wizard of Oz and not on the classic 1939 MGM musical.

I can't imagine what Miss Piggy is going to do when she hears she can't play Dorothy.

Piggy'll just drop a condo on whoever plays Dorothy and conveniently have memorized the part!

Of course, black is a very slimmng color. I hear the pounds seem to just melt away!

oh thank god, for a second there I thought this was gonna be about a muppet prison movie, I guess it's okay so long as the man behind the curtain isn't 16 inches tall and farting helium

Anyone read the book? How does it differ from the movie with Judy Garland?

While I haven't personally read the book, I recall reading/hearing (/making up? :D) that the movie is quite different from the movie.

The shoes are silver. And it's not a musical.

The world is even more weird and wacky..and there are many books, so there's a lot of world to go through. If you've ever seen Return to Oz, it's closer.

Some say there is a lot of political messages behind the Wizard of Oz, which were relevant for the times. I've never made a study of the novel, but if anyone is interested, here is an article on the subject.

I always thought the books were a lot darker than the movie.

Miss Piggy SHOULD be Dot... the other female part would be typecasting and I know she wants to stretch herself.

PS: Anyone see the interview with her on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart a few years ago. HILARIOUS!
