A friend of mine is reluctant to watch Farscape. She won't say it, but I know it's because of the image shows like Star Trek and Stargate give to sci-fi. Trite storylines, no real sense of danger, and no romance (romance = between two people OR the amazement of seeing a new world for the first time) To be honest, I thought the same thing. That's the reason I never watched Farscape while it was on TV. Anyway, my question is this... which episode should I show a non-believer?

I'd go with Season 1 episodes, as there's not as much backstory needed compared to later seasons.
Premiere is a good one because it's so easy to identify with John as the fish out of water. If your friend likes romance, though, I'd strongly suggest The Flax - the romance is definitely there, along with both drama and humour, and you don't really need to know the characters' backgrounds to understand what's going on.
*I* wouldn't go with a season-ender for a *reluctant* viewer because I think those episodes require a knowledge of backstory and a willingness to go with the flow and be completely confused for a while. (Not behaviour I expect of a *reluctant* viewer, but YMMV.)

Show her the Premiere, Exodus from Genesis, Back and Back to the Future, The Flax, PK Tech Girl, Nerve, Hidden Memory, and AHR.
It's shame sci=fi gets a bad rep because of those other shows. I like sci-fi, but even I don't watch them because they're boring and definitely don't challenge you mentally. Tell her Farscape is miles apart from those other shows.

Season 1>Through the Looking Glass
Season 2> Look at the Princess, for a mini
Both are kinda self contained and informative at the same time. And also not to far into the series to be a spoiler if she gets hooked.

How about "The Way We Weren't" ?

For romance, I think the Look at the Princess trilogy is good to watch and since it is like watching a movie could get her hooked!
Women usually like romance.
Crackers doesn't Matter is a pretty good comedy and I agree with the above Premiere and The Flax are also good too. So are the other episodes mentioned.

I did a poll on this very subject...

As a distillation of the opinions of MANY voters, I think you'll get some pretty clear advice from 'Scaper's at large... and if you want to, vote your own as well!

I recomend DNA Mad Scientist because it shows how in conflict the characters are, it's got a glimmer of the John/Aeryn romance and it shows motivation. However, CDM is an excellent, this ain't your normal sci-fi ep. I wouldn't recomend showing her some of Season 3/4 eps because if you do get her into it, you don't want to give away some of the big stuff too soon.

The LATP trilogy is excellent to start her out. It is like watching a movie and it's rather self-contained. You don't really have to know a lot of backstory to follow it. It's very romantic and should pique her interest into J&A's relationship and backstory.

I've show LATP trilogy to many women. They are all hooked on Farscape because of it. It needs a little explaination in the beginning, but all the charactors are featured in this trilogy.
The last thing you should say after she has seen it, to pique her interest further, is to tell her that there is a lot more to the story between Aeryn and John.....

I got my wife to watch starting with LATP. She isn't totally converted yet but she will make comments about the show everyonce in a while so I know she likes it, even if she wont admit it. ;)

I like the "Liars, Guns and Money" pair - great aliens, fantastic sound and plays well on a big screen. With popcorn.

It's plays well on the big screen and the cinematography is fantastic, but it might be a little too confusing for someone who hasn't seen the show especially with John seeming to be totally losing it. So even if she's willing to stick with the show after watching LGM, next up would be DMD. Would you spring that one on a newbie? :eek4: In order to appreciate DMD there needs to be some emotional investment in the characters, imo.

Look At the Princess was the sequence of episodes that finally got me hooked. Now I've spent gobs of money on DVDs of the show. If a fire breaks out in here, I'm staying with the DVDs.:flamed:
