View Full Version : A Rant about Alien Aliens

We've seen aliens with huge long necks, aliens that fart helium, aliens that stun things with a disturbingly long tongue.

Where's more?

I vaguely remember a Rockne interview saying that the novels and games were meant to, paraphrased greatly, "show things that we can't onscreen, delve into the strange".

I've seen online games that have a transparent alien that eats living creatures - rats and things. Very Farscape.

Head-of-the-week aliens is still sorta common. The show itself isn't actually free of that problem on occasion, but where's some more mind-boggling aliens?

Or am I missing some cool fanfics with strange aliens? :)

Kiri, loves weird aliens

Well, I heard on one of the ADV Season 1 DVD interviews (sorry, I don't remember which one) that originally they wanted to make the wall lights on Moya to be light-emitting spider-like creatures that crawl up and down the interiors of the walls of Moya.

As far as aliens go I think Farscape does them better than any show has to date.

They aren't the bumpy forehead aleins from yawntrek, erm I mean boretrek..erm Star Trek. Scarens, that thing in the pilot episode that Rigel was negoiating with, Natira with a spider-claw head, Namtar just to mention a few and lets not forget Moyans, Pilot and Buckwheat.. and then there's Moya herself.

The beauty of Farscape is the the wide range of shape, color and variety of the aliens seen. They all aren't just tan with bumpy heads which has become the crutch to alot of sci-fi shows.

I have heard very bad things about the novel(s?) that are currently out and haven't read them. Nor did I play the game, so i can't speak about the aliens from those. But the ones on Farscape seem totally alien and strange to me. Not only in look but in behavoir. Like how Chiana moves, it just alien, its a ver nice detail lost in most sci-fi seen on screen.

Natira has also been emulated on Galaxy Quest; the prehensile cranial appendages look like her kind of guy.

My favorite FS alien is in Bone to Be Wild; not just her appearance, but her diet.

The aliens on Farscape rock; when the obscure races came together in LGM, the races that I thought were only a one-shot I became a completely devoted fan :)

It's the other things that carry the name (RPG, game, fanfic) that were the subject of the rant.

Hail Natira!
