I just recieved 4.3 from Netflix, and as it was my first time watching UR, I was wondering if any one else had the same thought that I did:

Is it just me, or does Aeryn make for one ugly chiana?


P.S.- Man, has it been great to have this community here to help me mellow my relatively new found rage seeing as how early in the year I thought I had discovered this un-frelling-imaginably great new show only to find out it had already been canceled.:)

I don't know. I kind of thought that Aeryn was a hot Chiana.

I thought she made one very ugly Chiana... that make-up was very unflattering for her.

It seems broken half and half, so I'm going to, albeit temporarily most likely, break the mold here, folks.

I thought she looked frightening. I couldn't help but turn away at times.

I thought Claud looked more like Varla than Chi in the grey make-up, but ugly? Claudia? :g2f:

I think it's kosher to say that in some unrealized reality a person(even one as beautiful as Aeryn), can be considered ugly, relative to her stunning physical beauty in 'our' realized reality of course.

So please guys, don't throw me to the hounds.:)

Different, maybe. Ugly? NEVER. To me, the way Claudia plays Chiana is what gets me everytime. She has Gigi's mannerisms down pat. But ugly, Lord no.

When I first saw her I thought she was Varla and Varla was hot. Eye of the beholder I guess.

I thought she looked a little frightening, however, I thought she rocked that role. It was the best imitation of all the cast, IMO.

She looked strange in the Chi makeup but not ugly. But then I found Sikozu/Stark and the tall humanoid Rygel disturbing as well.

I thought she looked good as Chiana/nebari. I thought Chiana as Noranti was a bit, er, odd. (or freaky).

I just noticed one thing, I thought that nebari were grey all over, but there are a few shots of chiana (KANSAS) in a dress and in a skirt at one point where you can clearly see that there was no grey on her legs, at one point there is a panty shot, not that i sat there and replayed a few times of course not, I am not like that, but perhaps it was on purpose so fans could talk about this, so are nebari grey all over or just the upper body??

you know for a few there I wished I was young john crichton... I mean, he got lucky with an alien chic...:D:whip:

I thought that it has been stated by the makeup people, producers, etc. that the nebari are white, not grey. A lot of the different colorations in Chiana's makeup is just the pearlescent makeups reflective quality picking up the surrounding lightsources hue. That and bad TV calibration.

I would agree that the make-up and etc did not flatter Claudia Black but the same coud be said for nearly all the mixed up characters in that realiity. More than anything I think Claudia Black deserves praise for her fantastic impersonation of Chiana, right down to the moves!

If that is the case, then why in JQ does john refer to her as 'the little grey girl'?

Definately attractive, which is odd cause I don't normally find Chi attractive. Interesting and cool with amazing acting, but not really attractive.

Chi was certainly wearing tights when on earth in '86

Even D'Argo prefers the eloquent grey hehe. Scorpy is more obviously white imo, although very light, Chi still looks grey and has smokey shades. She'd probbly seem more like she's mono-white if her makeup had pink-ish like Scorps.

I thought Aeryn looked pretty disturbing in Scorpy Sue's outfit, as a criss cross Chiana she was pretty freaky deaky. I never thought Aeryn could be so creepy!

it didn't fit, she was hot in that cloak in Kansas but the coolant suit was - unnerving.

I did like this one part she turns around on top of the table and she looks like cat woman.

When i saw Claudia playing Chiana, i didnt know if it Claudia or Gigi... she play Chi so well that i had to find a scrip for the epi and read who play chiana.

How the frell Claudia didn't win any award???

Claudia has looked better, I still would consider her very attractive, got a little choked up with the scene there at the end. Which I wouldnt have if I found her ugly. I was expecting Aryen/Chiana, but my dad wasnt, he was like "Why didnt they change actresses for Chiana". He was confused as to why chrichton was having such a hard time shooting her XD. By about the 5th chot of her face, he finnally figured it out. Claudia did damn good with her acting there.

When I first saw that seen when the Claudia-Chiana is coming on to John I had no idea it wasn't chiana and I was sitting there thinking, "What the hell happened to Chiana"

It was only later that I discovered it wasnt even chiana at all.

Heh, that reminds me of D'argo in the costume of Jool. Now that wasn't a beautiful sight.

Claudia as Chiana didn't float my boat. Sikozu-Stark however... mhm. :)
If Sikozu always had short hair she would make Chi and Aeryn look downright plain. :D

Yeah, I was just a tad confused... I understood who was playing everyone else but Claudia did such a good job that I had no idea who was under the Chiana make-up, since Noranti was obviously Gigi (just to be clear, that was Melissa Jaffer as Rygel right?). It was on the second viewing of UR that I went "OMG IT'S AERYN!" or something to that extent.
I think that she looks a lot like Varla, who was scary-hot in her own Nebari way, not as much like Chiana. I would say that Chiana is better looking, but then, maybe it's because we're more accustomed and attached?
