I've heard people were really up in arms about that scene between John and his mother -- the really sexy one who tried to entice him. It seems that people were in two camps -- one believing that it was a scarren mind frell pulled that from his subconscious and the other believing that it was an implanted situation. What do you think? I think that situation was implanted by the scarren to totally break him, especially given that nothing else had worked up to that point.
Second, do you think the scene in the bar between Chi and Aeryn was part of John's subconscious or conscious fantasy to see Chi and Aeryn...um...together?
I find it interesting that the writers of Farscape seem to like dabbling with a bit of slash since not only did they do it back in S2, but also did again with Chiana in Twice Shy.

The Scarran mind frell was exactly that. Total mind frell and messed with John's psyche on every level.
As for the writers dabbling with a bit of slash I believe that both scenes were in context with the plot and circumstances. Chiana is an alien and plays her role very well. Farscape aliens do not have the same morals and conventions that humans have, so we can't judge their behaviors using our own values. John has discovered that over and over again.

Oh, I definitely agree that her behavior can't be judged by ours and I'm not making a judgement here. I have no doubt that Chi could be bi and it's not out of the realm of possibility that Aeryn (putting on flame-retardant suit) could've been, too, before she meant John. As for John, to my thinking, the scarren pulled from John's subconscious what he may fantasied about. After all he's a guy as he reminds us in OOTMs.

Are you saying that you are somewhat of a slasher?:D
lol, me and my friend love all that slash stuff, we find it extremly funny to read in fan fic, and to see it onscreen.

No, I'm not really into slash...well at least not the m/m kind. However, like I've said I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility for Chi and also Aeryn prior to meeting John. Mostly, I just find it fascinating the writers would boldly go there in the first place as what was shown on the screen wasn't subtle. ;)

It was all to break him... IMHO
but I don't doubt being a guy his mind slipped into the OOH Chi/Aeryn fantasy

lol, farscape has always gone where other shows usually dont, which is what keeps it fresh and interesting. Disturbing scenes leave more of a mark and the viewer doesn't know what to expect next, which is what that ep is all about

Hey, the Scarren was looking for the most disturbing and disorienting circumstances he could dredge up out of John's subconsciousness.
I don't know if I buy Freud's stuff about the pervasiveness of the Oedipal Complex, but hey, even if you didn't want to kill your dad and supplant him, what could be more disturbing than having your mother make sexual advances? All those societal (and I'd argue perhaps even instinctive) taboos! Fits well within the Scarren's technique. So it isn't necessarily something from John's psyche he was using.,, by it could be.
As to Aeryn & Chi, as well as the S&M stuff with Zhaan & Aeryn, I'm told most guys find that intriguing. I'm not in the girl/girl camp, and don't personally own anything other than a pair of handcuffs that I inherited, but maybe John is... but supresses it from his conscious mind, so the Scarren saw fit to "liberate" that for his purposes.
The scene with D'Argo might be based on the premise that all male comradery has suppressed homosexual elements... even if that is only an aversion to admitting that you "love" another guy, and not in the physical sense! So hey, more supressed material there.
I don't for a minute, however, buy that John woudl have a thing for Rygel in an S&M sense! That was ONE creative and devious Scarren!
