View Full Version : Sleeping Arrangements aboard Talyn in GEM

I watched Thanks for Sharing and GEM the other night and Crais' made a remark to Rygel and Stark that got me to thinking.
CRAIS:
Talyn's passenger facility isn't fully developed yet. Food will be tightly rationed. And you two... will have to share accomodation.
So if Talyn was still developing his passenger facilities and there was a lack of rooms then does that mean J&A were going to have to share a room regardless of whether they had become lovers that night? Obviously, it was to their mutual benefit that they were finally on the same page in that regard. :D
Also does anyone think there was a distinct lack of...ahem...privacy for J&A. I'm not talking about Rygel being able to overhear their "activities" due to the thin bulkhead. That was bad enough, LOL, but it looked like where they were sleeping was right off a hallway. Though, J&A didn't seem to have any complaints about their sleeping (or otherwise) arrangements, it sure did suck seeing that Crais had a room with a big bed in it. :whip:

Actually, they were sharing a corridor. If you watch carefully when John & Aeryn have a moment on Talyn (at the end of Thanks for Sharing(?) near when Aeryn tells John her mother's part of the Retrieval Squad), the bunks are the "shelves" in Talyn's bulkhead where John and Aeryn dump their stuff. Rygel and Stark get the storage compartment (which apparently shares a wall with the head of one of the bunks.)
They don't appear to have started "closely sharing" quarters until a little later, at the end of GEM. (At the beginning of GEM, we discover that Rygel and Stark have been gone from Talyn for more than a solar day when Aeryn suggests that maybe Rygel took Winona.)

Why wouldn't they share a room... Nether of them would want to be with Rygel or Stark they were in love... even if they didn't plan on Sleeping together that was the most logical arrangement don't you think?

Most definitely. But it's the lack of privacy that's a real drag. It's bad enough that Rygel could hear everything, but someone could've been walking by and saw them, as well. But hey, at the end of the day that wouldn't have stopped me, either. :D

Green Eyed Monster: the DRDs always bugging Crichton would not have disturbed Aeryn in a similar way... Aeryn was oblivious to what was happening in this ep, so it seems obvious that they were not sharing quarters at that time.

I just figure they weren't bugging her because Talyn liked her :)

They weren't sharing quarters initially, but after the events of GEM everything changed. There's the next morning when Crais interrupted them (Crais interruptus), there's Meltdown in which it's safe to say that they're probably sleeping together, as well as we see them in the same bunk at the beginning of IP-2, I believe. So it seems that J&A had to endure a lack of privacy the whole time they were together on Talyn, unless of course one of them threatened to space Rygel, Stark or even Crais if they dared ventured down that path that led to their bunk. Ater what Rygel overheard, he should've had the good sense to stay away. Then again, maybe not since it seems he's a voyeur as we see in Suns & Lovers when he spied on Chi and Jothee.

Did you see the look on Crais' face in the begining of Relativity? :rollin: I don't think J&A nocturnal activities were secret at all...it wouldn't suprise me if there were some threats along the way.

I don't think there was anything unseemly about the allocation of sleeping quarters. It was a small ship. Crais had his space and was not going to give it up. Rygel was rather compact so could fit into a tight spot and that left John and Aeryn having to share.
Crais as a former Peacekeeper Captain would have been allocating quarters anyway and while Peacekeepers recreated I don't think that a relationship between John and Aeryn even crossed Crais's mind until after John and Aeryn had cohabitated and even then this was not an unusual event between PK soldiers.
To Crais they were just a couple of 'soldiers' that were going to have to share tight quarters. And Aeryn, as a former PK soldier, would not have found it unusual either.

They may have been just a couple of soldiers to Crais, but I don't think J&A exactly relished the idea that their every moan and aaaah was overheard by practically everyone. I think they may have tried to be a little more quite about it after that first night together. It was about the only thing they could do under the circumstances.

I don't think Crais was that complacient about anything J&A did together.

Well, I'll have to go back and watch that scene again that you mentioned. It's sort of noticeable that they were still dressing when they showed up in command. :rollin: It wouldn't be a big deal, except that they're both in the midst of dressing. :rollin:
