I goofed.

I was trying to backup some files and decided to create a new file to burn them to disc from.

Problem? I didn't copy and paste them to the new file.

I did a "drag and drop".

Of course, I then made a mistake in what I was doing, and so deleted everything in the new file... AND EMPTIED THE RECYCLE BIN... intending to start all over again.

Wasn't it special to discover they were now MISSING from the original location?

"Oh yeah....drag and drop moves.....:eek3:.....AAAGGGHHH!!!"

:I know there's a way to save the files, even tho the recycle bin's been emptied, but I have NO idea what's involved.

I AM keeping my hands off that computer, so it won't start reusing the space the "deleted" files are on.

Still, I can't do that forever, and I'd really like to save that stuff from oblivion.

Anyone know anything?

Thanks, just in case. :help:

I think those "Turn Back The Clock" programs will makes things that were deleted reappear again. Not sure how much those programs cost though. You could search around to see if any of them are available as a free trial.

Also, I remember being told in my college computer class that you can go into MS DOS and look for the original "name" of the file....

c:\documentsandsettings\.......

Cause apparently things arent really deleted, they are just moved somewhere to the nether regions of you hard drive.

But I cant remember what you do if you find it in DOS.

so is this like a life or death sort of thing? I know that there are information recovery companies that can go through your hard drive and get just about anything... but it may cost lots...

Here's a freeware file recovery program that might be able to get your files back depending on your OS and other details. I've been able to rescue some things from the Recycle bin a few times on my home PC that has Windows ME. At work I have XP and it looks like when you take out the trash, it's gone but good.
