My husband will watch Farscape with me sometimes but not is a big Scaper ike me. But he has never been hurtful about it. I am addicted to Farscape but he doesn't say anything about it. He even helps me buy the DVDs and mags.

It's a shame your partner does not support your love of Farscape.

You say "nerd" like it's a bad thing...

Buy yourself a shirt that says "Talk nerdy to me." and slink around the house in it. If said partner doesn't appreciate the attractiveness of "nerd", show 'em a few leather-clad Ben 'n' Claudia scenes. If that doesn't do it,t hey're beyond hope.

Although my husband doesn't share my extreme enthusiasm for Farscape, itself - he certainly respects my wishes & supports my interest. Yes, sometimes he thinks I'm a little farhbot - but hey, he married me - so what does that make him? :D

Although you didn't ask for advice, you might want to tell them their comments are hurtful - it shouldn't matter if they approve or have interest in what you like or don't - they should respect you anyway.

Good Luck & I hope the atmosphere changes a bit for you.

I can state without a shadow of a doubt that I'm a nerd:D or have nerd tendencies.

For months I had this friendly battle with my 16 year old son who insists that my addiction to Farscape makes me a "dork". To me, "dorks" are socially pathetic souls who wear tape on their glasses and have obvious nasal problems. Yuck!!!

If you must, I much prefer being called a "geek"! (I have to admit to spending a little too much time on Farscape. It is, afterall, a television show. ) That's fine. I haven't told him yet that I'm actually considering dressing up as a Delvian with a group of fellow Farscape addicts for July's San Diego Comic-con.

I can just see his reaction! :thud:

Learn to be "one" with the geek within.... :D

Well, I'm officially a geek. :D

Let's see. I love computers, math, I'm a computer science major, I love science fiction. Oh yeah. I'm a complete geek. :D

I embrace the fact that I'm a nerd, although I do take offense when I'm told get a life, like there's is so much better or something.

I get told that I'm a nerd a lot. Sometimes it is hurtful, but other times, when said in god humor, it's fun. :) FOr me, it depends on who says it. I gave a speech on Farscape in one of my classes and I got some of the worst looks from the audience... I was hurt for days. But when people in my group project kinda laugh at me and tell me I'm a nerd it's ok... because they know me better and they're kinda joking about it.

There are some days when I just need reassurance from my friends (you guys) that it's ok to be a nerd and a geek. :)

Geeks rule. Geeks know stuff. Geeks read.
Really good reasons to be proud of being a geek.

Nerds rule. Nerds know stuff. Nerds read.
Really good reasons to be proud of being a nerd.*grin*

Fiona, geek, nerd, whatever

Don't worry about it leeturnbull, you're in good company. Last year we discovered that about 95% of the members at this site are geeks to some degree. Wear your nerdiness proudly.:aok:
As for having Farscape as a thriving interest - I see nothing wrong with that. You could be into things that could get you into way more trouble than Farscape. :D Tell your partner to be grateful it's not something that could land you in jail.;)

thank you all so much for your kind words, it has cheered me up.

But i think maybe i try to hard to get people to watch the show, i think well if you have watched the show and you dislike it then fine, but if you dont even watch it then you have no right to judge it.

Why people group the sci fi genre together is a mystery to me, star wars, star trek star gate and farscape could not be more different but still we get called trekies, geeks etc!!

well anyway thanks to all of you, i am proud to be a scaper as we are a lovely group of people

thanks

lee

My wife thinks I'm a geek, partially because of Farscape, but really because of so many other things. I wear it as a badge of honor. Nearly all of the truly interesting people in the world are geeks or nerds of some sort. And in the end, when it all boils down, it's the geeks and the nerds who really truly run the show.

If my ex-bf ever thought of calling me a nerd, I would call him one back. He's worse than me ... =P

But it's great. I'm proud to be nerdy. There's nothing wrong with it. I mean, there are worse things in the world we can be.

But that only works if you also shake your shapely behind at them. And somehow work in the phrase "Grade A American Beef". It's up to you whether you flush them out of the airlock. I think that all depends on what their answer is to the question "So, what do you think of "nerd" now, huh, punk?"
