Newby Question..Virginia Hey's departure? *mini spoilers!*

Hey all,

I'm new to this so bear with me. I'm just now watching season 3 on DVD. I couldn't believe that Zhaan died. I was just curious what the back story was about Virginia Hey leaving the show or (could be unknown to me at this point) her taking a "vacation" from the series.

I wonder if it had anything to do with 3 hours of makeup to prep for every production??

Just curious. I'm sure this has been the discussion of many threads in the past.

Well, you're partly right - it was the make up. The make up was making her physically unwell and she needed to stop. If I recall correctly it was effecting her kidneys.

The scuttlebutt I heard was a combination of factors. Mainly, the make-up was making her sick. Bleeding kidneys I heard. She said once that the make-up was so heavy that she couldn't sweat through it. When the off season came, she realized her skin was so use to not sweating in those areas, that it took a while until it would again. And then she'd be back to filming. Also, I think she wanted hair. Real hair. And then she found out that other Delvians had hair, so it wasn't necessary for her character to be bald.

If you ever get a chance to see her at a con, she is very funny and charming. She is a very down to earth type person.

I know other Delvians had hair, and I can totally understand anyone, let alone just Gin, wanting to keep their hair. But I have to give her uberprops for going along with shaving her head for the role like she did; Zhaan being hairless was wicked cool!

Yeah Zhaan would have looked totally stupid with hair. The other Delvians looked stupid.

She made two cameos in Season 4 but I don't think she's going to be in the mini despite rumours.

It might be just as well. Considering each reviews have complained about characters not being given enough to do in the mini, I feel as though if Zhaan did show up it would simply be to Aeryn's wedding as her "something blue" :D

I heard that the original plan was for them to find a planet to heal her, leave her there for a few episodes, and when they went back for her she'd have hair. But that wouldn't have solved the make-up problem so they killed her instead.
