I've just learned that G4 has fired the entire staff of TechTV.

Per the WARN Act (governing plant closings) all the employees of TechTV have been given 60 days notice. The San Francisco operation will be shuttered by July. 100 of the existing jobs will be posted for those willing to relocate to LA.

Outgoing COO, Joe Gillespie will say good-bye to the troops tomorrow. Incoming CEO Charles Hirschorn will say hello (and good-bye) on Monday.

No word on which shows G4 will keep or which hosts will be kept on."

Sure, TechTV isn't the greatest channel around but they're loads better than those meatheads at G4. And there's 4 things I'll miss about Morgan Webb and Laura Swisher. :(

At least the above quote from the linked-to article makes it sound like while this laying off will cause a lot of people who are unwilling to relocate to LA to lose their jobs, some will be staying in San Fran to keep production of various shows going.

This whole merger has been wicked tumultuous, it seems. I hope it gets straightened out and things can get back to some form of normalcy. I used to like TechTV a lot. I watched The Screen Savers way back when it was ZDTV and Kate was still Leo's co-host.

Talk about unreasonable, given the housing bubble in Calf (and the taxes and the red tape), this is no way in Hell someone can up and move from one city to another at a moment's notice.

And talk about wasting millions of dollars, Comcast buys a tv station and then fired all the workers that made it great in the first place, this is boneheaded even for them.

I'm still considering this, I'm not even sure I understand it, and I can't find any additional information on the net.

I've been watching TechTV since it was ZDTV and seemed to be much better.

I've never seen or heard of G4. I checked thier website out, it's just as bad as Tech's.

I dunno.....
