YYYYAAAAYYYY!!... err :eh:
Anyway, it's spring time again, and I tought it would be fun if you all got up from your eemas, dusted the old digital camera and took a pretty picture of somethig that, for you, represents spring time in your area.
Edit: This thread is no longer a competiton, due largely to my incompitence to organize it. But that is no reason to stop posting pics.

Oh, and well done with the pics.

Ok, I think I'll go for the little lamb. That certainly represents spring. The tulip field was for me a close second, but it's not a big one and it's only one color (most of the fields are already 'processed').

I think i'll do a little bump here.
I should propably put a deadline for the pics, right?
Lets say the deadline is 20 of this month.. that's next weeks thursday.
So judging begins at thursday. Get posting

Those are beautiful cactuses!
Thanks, they're right by a footpath out at my parents' place. I was out there last weekend and once I saw them I had to go get my camera. If only I'd had my good film camera with the telephoto...there were hummingbirds all over the place!
Stellar, I love da bug!

I have a digital camera, but I'm not sure how to post pics. Do you have to have an area out on the web to reference or can you post something on your hard drive. I've been meaning to learn how to do this for two years now. I'm ashamed to say I'm a programmer. :D

Here are some pics from my yard.
(edited to add - don't let "the dump" title fool ya. I call that part of my yard The Dump because that is where I stuff in all the free plants that I get from dividing my perennials, and I also get a lot of stuff from my neighbor's dividings and my other plants that self-seed. It used to just be weeds there and now it is filled with tulip and daffodil bulbs, forsythia, wild roses, purple coneflower, artemesia, lilacs, daylilies, mints, oregano, and bee balm. Lots of color and lots of bees and butterflies!)

Thanks Baseline. I've got a photo album area set up at Yahoo (at least I got an email that said I had it when I signed on w/SBC). So I think I can just use that.
Fermicat - why do you call those beautiful flowers set against the woods a "dump" ? Nice shot by the way.

photobucket.com also lets you do that.
after MUCH tribulation, i've got it down to under 100k! i had to crop a bit out...the left showed one or two cars, the right showed more of a bush, and the bottom showed the bottom of the tree. i like the bike a lot and how the fact that the grass ends at the dirt makes a little path all the way down to the next building.

Soooo, fermicat, the "zima lilacs", does zima refer to:
1. The type of lilac.
2. The cat.
3. Why the cat is asleep.
4. What you were thinking of/drinking when you took the photo.
5. Nac Mac Feegle.

i took a few more here!
let me explain:
backyard - that is the space between my yard and my neighbor's yard. the stairs to the right belong to my neighbor.
suburbia is basically my neighborhood. the houses to the left are across the street from mine and i like the kid on his bike in the distance. he was going to fast, otherwise i would've been able to get a better picture of just him.
feet are...well they're my feet. the way the camera is pointing suggests my calves and thighs are a lot bigger than they actually are. but those are my feet standing in front of a bush in my yard.
shadow puppets is basically me taking a picture...i've got a very strange sillouette.
plants is basically just a close up of one of the plants in my yard.
AgentSun
05-11-2004, 08:38 PM
and a few more...
house - that is the sun peeking out from behind my neighbor's house. i thought it had a really nice sparkle to it, especially contrasting with the shadow of the house.
dobermans - the house behind mine to the right, has dobermans. they were tied to the fence outside and they were barking at a random dog far away. they made a lot of noise.
the windows and trees are from another home, and they had a tree in the yard and i thought it was really nice.

Zima is my cat's name. Although, coincidentally, she did have a little "episode" involving the drink *after* I had named her. She was just a wee kitty and was staggering around one morning like there was something horribly wrong with her, or her legs were made of jelly or something. I decided to take her to the vet if she was still doing it at lunch time. I came home to find her sleeping it off.

a lot of people seem to post a lot of pics, so I think that it's better if we judge them as a whole(is that the right word?).
Oh and it occurred to me last night that someone might be under the assumption that there is some kind of a prize for this, but i'm broke as it is, so the only thing the winner will get is a good mood.
I'm still working on how the voting will be done.... I think it will have something to do with PM's....

Since it's your competition, why don't you select your favorite pic from however many each entrant submits. Then you could have a simple poll to determine the winner unless there are too many entrants..

You know... you are right. I was watching True Grit yesterday and during the boring bits I got really stressed out of how i'm gonna do this. And that sounds really stupid right? stressing over a silly competiton.
So from now on this is no longer a competition, you can post a thousand pics if it feels right.... whew, what a relief.

This is a bit frustrating for me.
It's pretty much what I do,
It's my Work and Passion and I can't share my best pictures on the web if I want to display them in art galleries and/or publish them.
it's that copy right thingy.
that and art galleries want original work .
but I have a few I can spare...

Why can't you display a low-res watermarked picture with your copyright on it online? The full-resolution prints are original work and quite different from the digital version that you displayed "For the purpose of creative critique from your peers." ;)
You can also embed your copyright stuff in Photoshop using the File Info under the File menu.
If you took the picture, then the copyright belongs to you. The only thing you have to look out for is the fine print on some "art" web sites that sneakily try & snatch your copyright through "By posting here, you sign over your copyright to this work..." But that's easily avoided.
Displaying a picture online does not put your work in the public domain. Unless you publicly release your copyright or sell it, that copyright is YOURS. In fact, if you register your work & later find that someone's lifted your stuff, you can sue the pants off 'em.
It's all right here: http://www.copyright.gov
Besides, how many galleries are gonna be looking on FMD?

well thanks to me, all of them.
1 you answered most of your questions .
2 I let my manager Xena Warrior Princess handle that dren, and if she says no - it's no.
3 I'm not playing Russian Roulette with my Bread and Butter .
& 4 if a Gallery considers a Photo of Scooby’s Doo to be art - they will hang it!!!
