I've been attending the 3rd Annual Tribeca Film Festival in NYC since May 1st. It ended yesterday. This was my 3rd year attending.
One of the last films I saw was an Australian film called "One Perfect Day". Many films at the festival don't have a distribution deal yet and it may be the case for this one. It has been released in Australia and its website is here: http://www.oneperfectday.com.au/
Anyway, I recognized one of the lead actresses from Farscape even though her Farscape role had her in heavy makeup. I realize now that the lead actor was also on Farscape, too, because I looked him up.
Dan Spielman: from "Different Destinations"
Leeanna Walsman: from "Sons and Lovers"

There was a time back in the '80s when Australian movies RULED! There was Gallipoli, Breaker Morant (Jonathan Hardy's screenplay I believe), My Brilliant Career, Picnic At Hanging Rock and Masterpiece Theatre ran "A Town Like Alice".
They were all great movies/miniseries in my opinion.
Now that I think about it, "Picnic At Hanging Rock" was one of the most disturbing films I've ever seen!
Glad to see they're still at it!

Whatever happened to Bryan Brown? He was a good actor. He was in "Breaker Morant", too.
I think that David Franklin was in "My Brilliant Career". That movie launched the career of the wonderful Judy Davis!
I suppose I'm being sentimental, but the best movies from the 1980s seemed a hell of a lot better than what's considered "the best" these days! There were some wonderful
flicks from the 80s. I went to the movies ALL the time and was rarely disappointed!

I've heard of this film from the Rob Dougan website. Apparently he's got a remix of his song "One And The Same" that plays over the credits. I'm dying to get my hands on that cut, but not dying enough to get the import of the soundtrack off of Amazon for $40.
From what I've heard from the Ausies that hangout at that site, the films alright. I think it's got the rave/dance scene as a backdrop to the story.

Rachel Ward wasn't on "A Town Like Alice" (I loved that series very much, too and I'd love to see it once again), she and Bryan Brown were together on the original "Thornbirds" series at the beginning of 80'ties.
I've seen them both lately on the miniseries "On the beach" (2000) with Armand Assante.

There was also an Aussie mini series at the 80'ties, period of time was the end of XIX century or beginnig of XX century (but I may be wrong, it could have been beginning of XIX century) and it was on the Murray river on the boat mostly. Can anybody tell me the title of it?

Did anybody else ever see Rikky and Pete? It had a short theatrical run in NYC about maybe 10 years ago. Hysterical. Bruce Spence had a small part - he played an Eastern European miner. The whole thing was just perfect in that totally loony Australian way. I own a copy, so it's available on video - used to be anyway.

Hi everyone,
Kalliope, that sounds like "All the Rivers Run" I think. I don't know the river involved but they lived aboard a paddlewheeler as riverboat captains. Found this which shows the picture on the VHS tape. http://imdb.com/title/tt0086663/
Oh, and I think Jonathan Hardy was in one of the Thornbird movies, btw.

Hey Guys,
Kalliope, You are right about "A Town Like Alice"...Helen Morse starred in that as Jean Paget, not Rachel Ward.
Just thought you might also like a little tidbit of information I've just uncovered, the young girl Jane Holland in "A Town Like Alice" was played by Lucy Bell...Farscape connection...she played Nurse Kelsa in Different Destinations (Cyntrina's mother).

Thanks for the link. Yes, it's exactly this series :) I'd like to see it once again, 'cause I really liked it.
As for Jonathan Hardy, he was in "Thornbirds - the missing years", if I remember the title correctly, but I haven't seen it, although it seems to me that it was aired on TV in Poland.
