Culture Shock: where did John get THIS line from?

In Family Ties, John finds Crais on Talyn, and confronts him with THIS:

John: "You want to have a mid-life crisis? Oh, SURE! Ditch the firm, head out to Maui, shack up with the supermodel..."

John: "But you don't -- get -- to keep -- the PORSCHE!"

Ok, I *know* this is from a movie or something... or a bunch of movies or something(s)

I think it's a number of Human 'pop culture - Crichtonisms' thrown together and does not really come from any one headline or movie. But it sure sounds great.

It's in reference to a mid-life crisis, but he's also referring to Talyn as the Porsche.

It was a good line, but I think it was from a typical description of midlife crisis

Yeah, I am pretty sure that Crichton was just referencing the standard generalisation of the male mid-life crisis. Ditch the wife, quit the job, move somewhere sunny and buy a porshe. :shrug:

It is a funny line though - and very, very apt for Crais' situation.

I think y'all are right on that, but I have an image (& I know it's not really correct) of Tom Cruise in The Firm - and it just reminds me of that type of story!
